The Japanese newspaper Tokyo Sports has announced their annual year-end award winners, recognizing what they feel was the best of 2022. Note this only includes Japan-based promotions and wrestlers so no WWE, AEW, etc.
The list of winners:
MVP: Kazuchika Okada (New Japan)
Match of the Year: Okada vs. Will Ospreay, New Japan, 8/18
Tag Team: Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb (New Japan)
Distinguished Service Award: Kento Miyahara (All-Japan)
Fighting Spirit Award: Great-O-Khan
Technique Award: El Lindaman (GLEAT)
Women’s Grand Prize: Syuri (Stardom)
Rookie of the Year: Yuma Anzai (All-Japan)
Pro Wrestling Grand Prize Honor Award: Antonio Inoki (posthumous-in recognition of his contributions to pro wrestling and his 6 career MVP awards)
In the future there may be more individual awards for women, as this was noted as something committee member Kenta Kobashi is pushing for.
