Leader: Asanoyama (7-0)
WITHDRAWAL: Aoiyama (M17). Knee (ruptured ACL/tendon). Occurred during and possibly after his Day 6 match. Out indefinitely. Tournament likely over and, if he can’t return, he will be demoted back to Juryo with, being at M17, a very slight chance of possibly demotion to Makushita. I think this may be the end of the Bulgarian’s long career. I do see him becoming an oyakata as he’s got a lot of elder stock and does have Japanese citizenship so hopefully he’ll follow the path of old friend Tochinoshin and stay involved in sumo. (The Georgian & former Ozeki has also opened a wine bar and produces/sells his own line of Georgian wine. He is from the country of Georgia, not the American state of Georgia)

Reminder: NHK World Japan will have 50 minutes of LIVE top tier coverage tomorrow at 12:10 AM PT/3:10 AM ET as the tournament reaches the halfway point.

UPDATE: Takayasu has WITHDRAWN again before Day 8. Back. Status uncertain. Kotonowaka gets the free win tomorrow and will improve to 7-1, either a co-leader or one back depending on how Asanoyama does.
