Of note: It looks like everyone expected to start strong has, with Onosato and all 3 Ozeki quickly 2-0 along with Atamifuji. Not to mention all those Asas as all 4 Takasago men are also 2-0. This is the first time in 3 tournaments Onosato hasn’t stumbled to an 0-2 start as well. That’s a good sign because when he starts 2-0 or better he’s failed to get 10+ wins only once (9-6). And no kinboshi conceded yet but he gets Kotoshoho’s younger half tomorrow (Kotoeiho) while Kotoshoho continues his Ozeki slate against Aonishiki.

Of note: The big story here was the surprise de facto Juryo debut of Asahifuji as the Makushita man up for the day…and taking only his second career loss. So that means if he wins his 5th championship in 5 tournaments it’ll be the second in a row where it wasn’t 7-0. Newcomer Tanji got his first win today after losing his debut yesterday while Nabatame moves to 2-0 in his return, but Enho took a loss today to fall to 1-1. Another tough start for Tamawashi has the Iron Man 0-2 but not out of it by any means. Himukamaru will be the Makushita man up tomorrow. No match for Asahifuji so he may not compete again until Day 5 or 6.
