Stardom has provided an update on Saya Kamitani after she suffered an apparent injury Saturday in her World Of Stardom Championship match. Reportedly a dislocated finger. Because the match was stopped but then continued (and also because, especially if you’ve watched WWE or that Unreal show on Netflix-which I have-I liked it-Pro Wrestling Everybody!) there were concerns about if it was legit or not. Clarification came from both the promotion and President Taro Okada that it was a legit injury, and now a follow-up report from the promotion: it was decided Kamitani should and will have surgery to prevent future complications/issues. Out about 1 month. She will try to make some non-wrestling appearances if possible, and she was at yesterday’s H.A.T.E. fan gathering event (but couldn’t sign autographs). No word on when the next title defense is scheduled to be-they teased Sayaka Kurara being next but the annual Cinderella Tournament is coming up in March and Kurara likely will participate as the defending winner-but a likely date is the next annual tentpole blowout event on 4/29 so all should be well by then.
More as it becomes available.
UPDATE: Kamitani isn’t the only one sidelined. Suzu Suzuki, Saya Iida & Bea Priestley are all headed to the bench too. Suzuki & Priestley-unspecified injuries. Iida-surgery for removal of a steel plate in her right hand from a fracture last year. All are out indefinitely.
