Pro Wrestling NOAH “NOAH THE NEW YEAR 2026” LIVE Results (1/1/2026) (Updated)

While it’s not the first event in Japan in the New Year, Pro Wrestling NOAH kicks off 2026 today with their annual New Year’s Day blowout event, NOAH THE NEW YEAR 2026. The main event is an interesting GHC Heavyweight Championship match between Yoshiki Inamura & OZAWA. Representing the future of the promotion, it’s a rematch of late 2022 when then-Taishi Ozawa made his debut against a much different Inamura, who was struggling to make the mid-card before beginning a pair of training excursions, most recently to WWE as part of NXT and came back with a new look, some decent English and now the top title while OZAWA recently returned from injury and teased a face turn but still seems to solidly be Team 2000X going in, we shall see. Almost every other GHC Championship will also be defended today and there’s even a title match from Europe’s Progress Wrestling to round out a massive card along with a surprise appearance in one title match-the net seems to think it could be the NOAH debut of one Tetsuya Naito and I concur, but we must wait and see…

Today’s event will be held at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in English only. This is a live & exclusive ABRMA broadcast in Japan, which will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese a short time after the event (with Akitoshi Saito on commentary among others). The 9 match lineup features 6 title matches so this will be a New Year’s all-nighter/morninger depending on where you are with a predicted running time in the 4-5 hour range.

Today’s lineup (match order TBA):
Masa Kitamiya, Takashi Sugiura, Tadasuke & Jun Masaoka vs. Kazuhuki Fujita, Minoru Suzuki, Junta Miyawaki & Shuhei Taniguchi
KENTA, HAYATA, Tetsuya Endo & Ulka Sasaki vs. Atsushi Kotoge, Mohammed Yone, Hajime Ohara & Hi69
Kaito Kiyomiya & Jack Morris vs. Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows
Progress Atlas Champion Will Kroos. vs. Saxon Huxley for the title
GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Daga & Daiki Odashima vs. Alejandro & Kai Fujimura and Eita & Shuji Kondo in a 3-way for the titles
GHC National Champion Dragon Bane vs. Alpha Wolf for the title
GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Naomichi Marufuni & Kenoh vs. BUSHI & TBA for the titles
GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi vs. AMAKUSA for the title
GHC Heavyweight Champion Yoshiki Inamura vs. OZAWA for the title

Updates below will begin at 10 PM PT/1 AM ET. The live stream is scheduled to begin 30 minutes before the event. (Pre-show Update: The stream start time, as of 5 PM PT/8 PM ET, has now been pushed back 10 minutes and will now begin 20 minutes before the event)

9:40 PM PT UPDATE: The live stream has begun. We should be going to the venue in about 10 minutes. The UNIVERSE pre-start screen indicates the start time has been moved up to 9:50 PM PT/12:50 AM ET. It also suggests the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship 3-way will be the opening match.

9:50 PM PT UPDATE: The ABEMA stream probably started now but the UNIVERSE stream has to wait a little longer.

10 PM PT UPDATE: Live updates begin now.

We are LIVE from Nippon Budokan in Toyo, Jpaan. Commentary will begin shortly when the first match starts.

The paid attendance will be announced after the vent. The venue’s normal full capacity for wrestling events is roughly 8400 but I imagine they’re using a smaller setup and it clearly isn’t a sellout. Hoping it’s a good crowd, I’m guessing the setup will be for closer to 6000 and I’ll make a best-case guess of 4000 for today. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 6278)

We join right before the opening video & match card announcement. Leaning heavily into Yoshiki Inamura’s cowboy-themed persona now.

The matches begin at 10:05 PM PT/1:05 AM ET. Your hosts are the returning Stewart (BANG! Back at last!) Fulton, Mark Pickering & Mike Shroudner.

Match 1: GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Daga & Daiki Odashima vs. Alejandro & Kai Fujimura and Eita & Shuji Kondo in a 3-way for the titles. 1 Hour time limit
Result: GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Daga & Daiki Odashima beat Alejandro & Kai Fujimura and Eita & Shuji Kondo in a 3-way, when Odashima pinned Alejandro, to retain the titles. V2 for the champs.

Match 2: Masa Kitamiya, Takashi Sugiura, Tadasuke & Jun Masaoka (Independent/Freelancer) vs. Kazuhuki Fujita, Minoru Suzuki, Junta Miyawaki & Shuhei Taniguchi. 30 minute (?) time limit
Result: Masa Kitamiya, Takashi Sugiura, Tadasuke & Jun Masaoka beat Kazuyuki Fujita, Minoru Suzuki, Junta Miyawaki & Shuhei Taniguchi. Kitamiya beat Miyawaki with Stranglehold y.

Match 3: Progress Atlas Champion Will Kroos. vs. Saxon Huxley for the title. A nice pre-match surprise as Huxley was seconded by the injured YO-HEY, looking a lot better and closer to a return. Or at least someone that looked like YO-HEY…I think it actually was Shuji Kondo.
Result: Saxon Huxley beat Progress Atlas Champion Will Kroos to win the title.

Match 4: KENTA, HAYATA, Tetsuya Endo & Ulka Sasaki vs. Atsushi Kotoge, Mohammed Yone, Hajime Ohara & Hi69. 30 minute (?) time limit KENTA with microphone pre-match. He reveals that, as indicated by the shirts they came out wearing, his new faction is now called WRS-White Raven Squad.
Result: KENTA, HAYATA, Tetsuya Endo & Ulka Sasaki beat Atsushi Kotoge, Mohammed Yone, Hasjime Ohara & Hi69. KENTA pinned Hi69 after GO 2 SLEEP.

Match 5: GHC National Champion Dragon Bane vs. Alpha Wolf for the title. 1 Hour time limit
Result: Alpha Wolf beat GHC National Champion Dragon Bane to win the title. Wolf becomes the 19th GHC National Champion. All because of The Turn…Yoshitatsu came out near the end and that gave it all away-Wolf turned on Bane, his brother, and defected to Team 2000X.

Intermission. We get some of the Japanese commentary unmuted during the break while the English team steps away.

The matches resume at 11:40 PM PT/2:40 AM ET. Keiji Muto & sumo wrestler Wakamotoharu join Japanese commentary. (Some sumo wrestlers are pro wrestling fans and some wrestlers, most notably New Japan star Taichi, are sumo fans and return the favor)

Match 6: Kaito Kiyomiya & Jack Morris vs. Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows. Unknown time limit
Result: Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows beat Kaito Kiyomiya & Jack Morris. Anderson pinned Morris after Magic Killer.

As the next match prepares to begin it’s midnight PT so…Happy New Year & welcome to 2026!

Match 7: GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Naomichi Marufuni & Kenoh vs. BUSHI & TBA for the titles. 1 Hour time limit. And TBA is…indeed…Tetsuya Naito!
Result: BUSHI & Tetsuya Naito beat GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Naomichi Marufuji & Kenoh to win the titles. BUSHI & Naito become the 76th GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Champions. BUSHI pinned Marufuji. Got away with an apparent mist attack on a rollup.

Match 8: GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi (New Japan) vs. AMAKUSA for the title. 1 Hour time limit
Result: AMAKUSA beat GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi to win the title. AMAKUSA becomes the 60th GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion. Next up: Looks like Odashima as challenge issued. Accepted. Updates to come later today.

Main Event: GHC Heavyweight Champion Yoshiki Inamura vs. OZAWA for the title. 1 Hour time limit
Result: GHC Heavyweight Champion Yoshiki Inamura beat OZAWA to retain the title. V2 for Inamura. A lot of Team 2000X interference but at one point Dragon Bane came out to help Inamura. Next up: Kenoh. Ot is it? Before he could get to the ring, Masa Kitamiya laid out Kenoh. Kitamiya with microphone. He wants next and isn’t letting Inamura choose Kenoh next. Challenge accepted by Inamura. Kitamiya took the cheap shot and went for the beatdown but bailed when Inamura got the upper hand. So it looks like Kitmaiya and not Kenoh next. Updates to come.

The next event is tomorrow at Shinjuku Face. The event is a legit advance sellout. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin at 1:30 AM PT/4:30 AM ET.

UPDATE: Kitamiya is indeed next for Inamura and not Kenoh. That match will happen on 1/11 at Korakuen Hall along with AMAKUSA-Odashima.

This originally was to have been Inamura & Kitamiya vs. Kiyomiya & Endo but OZAWA was a surprise last-second addition to the match as was Tadasuke. It also marks OZAWA’s official return from injury.

The next event, the first of 2026, is NOAH THE NEW YEAR 2026 on 1/1 at Nippon Budokan. Live streaming ONLY IN JAPAN ON ABEMA will begin on 12/31 at 10 PM PT/1 AM ET. There is no live WRESTLE UNIVERSE broadcast so set up and test your VPNs now so you can get ABEMA if you are outside Japan (the event should be a free broadcast even though ABEMA is mow offering a limited version of WRESTLE UNIVERSE as a paid option-it will only include select live events, no on demand). It also likely won’t be on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE right away-you may have to wait a week or two.
