Tokyo Joshi Pro continued the Tokyo Princess Cup today with the first half of Round 2.
Today’s event was held at Osaka Azalea Taisho in Osaka and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.
The announced paid attendance was 294, a full house/near sellout.
Match 1: Yuki Kamifuku, Mifu Ashida & Shion Kanzaki beat Haru Kazashiro, Uta Takami & Momo Sato. Kamifuku beat Sato.
Match 2: Raku beat Sakura Hattori & Ren Konatsu in a 3-way by pinning Konatsu.
Match 3: Shoko Nakajima, Yuki Aino, Pom Harajuku & Toga beat Yuki Arai, Miu Watanabe, Suzume & Mahiro Kiryu. Nakajima pinned Suzume with a Northern Lights suplex hold. That surprised me. No, I don’t expect Nakajima to challenge Suzume for the International Princess Championship anytime soon, but that Suzume got beaten here and not Kiryu qualifies as a bit of an upset.
Tokyo Princess Cup Round 2:
Match 4: Arisu Endo beat Chika Nanase by submission.
Match 5: HIMAWARI beat Wakana Uehara.
Match 6: Hyper Misao beat Mizuki. HAPPY HAPPY!!!!
Main Event: Rika Tatsumi beat Miyu Yamashita by submission. Supposedly this was their first single match in over 5 years!?! That means my second choice to win is out and thus no trilogy/rubber match with Yuki Arai at WRESTLE PRINCESS 7. Unless Arai wins and decides one more time…based on backstage comments, Yamashita may soon be heading back to England for a Pro Wrestling EVE event and title defense in August.
As a result, the first half of the Quarterfinals will be Endo vs. HIMAWARI & Misao vs. Tatsumi. The Quarterfinals are on 8/8.
The next event is Thursday at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo with the second half of the Quarterfinals. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin at 3 AM PT/6 AM ET.
