Makuuchi (top tier):
Scheduled to begin at midnight PT/3 AM ET.
WITHDRAWALS (Pre-Tournament): Hoshoryu (Y), Wakatakakage (M12), Wakanosho (M16). Hoshoryu-knee (ACL). Will not compete this tournament after being considered a game-time decision. Wakatakakage-left thigh. Will not compete this tournament, as expected as he is expected out until 2027 while his recovery from thigh compartment syndrome continues. Will be demoted to Juryo in November. Wakanosho-thigh (bone contusion). Status uncertain but out at least the first 2 days. Because he stayed in the top tier the feeling is 0-15 or sitting out would not get him demoted to Makushita.
Juryo:
Scheduled to begin at 10 PM PT/1 AM ET.
Lower tier notes: There have been some notable Makushita withdrawals before the tournannent, most notably Oshoumi at Ms2 after demotion from the top tier & Juryo. This may not have been unexpected. Asahifuji, looking to reach Juryo after his first career loss in July cost him promotion despite a 4th championship in 4 tournaments, starts that bid today.
