DDT runs the first of two Tokyo signature monthly events today, this one being a Yuki Ueno 10th Anniversary event. One of the former prospects of the short-lived DNA sub-label project from the mid-2010s along with Naomi Yoshimura, Ueno has become, especially over the last 2-3 years, easily the top star in the promotion as part of The37Kamiina and more recently a dominant 2-time KO-D Openweight Champion. And, perhaps appropriately, his match today will be against factionmate Shunma Katsumata which is a NON-TITLE match.
While there are no title matches scheduled, time is running out for the second “Money In The Bank” KO-D Openweight Championship title shot right to be used, which is currently held by Chris Brookes while Viento Levante has the right to challenge for the right. Levante is not currently on the card but Brookes is so he could lose his rights if beaten.
Today’s event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese. Shota Sonoda & Momoyoko Nakajima of Dow 90000 and Minamikawa, a comedian who co-starred with Ueno in a TV/movie role, will be the special guests on commentary. There is a pre-show match scheduled to start unusually early so with that taken into consideration this probably will be a longer Korakuen event than usual with a running time of around 3 1/4 hours.
