DDT held a Sanshiro Takagi 30th Anniversary Event today, which was unique in that it did not feature any DDT wrestlers-at least none who are signed to the promotion (some regulars who are technically freelancers were featured).
Today’s event was held at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.
The paid attendance was not announced, as is now the case for DDT, but they claimed it was a legit sellout.
At the start of the event, Sanshiro Takagi appeared and announced the start of a new project, M&A Pro Wrestling (Matchmake & Agent), with the first event on 4/9 at Ueno Park Outdoor Stage then the second event on 6/25 at Shinjuku Face. No DDT wrestlers will be a part of either event.
Match 1: Fumito Kihara beat Shota.
Match 2: Hyper Misao (Tokyo Joshi Pro) beat Muscle Sakai. Misao actually unmasked herself during the match.
Match 3: Fuminori Abe & Munenori Sawa beat Yumiko Hotta & Shinya Aoki by DQ. Hotta DQ’d. Out of control.
Match 4: Dump Matsumoto & Toru Owashi beat Brahmans Shu & Kei by DQ in 44 seconds. Shu DQ’d. Ref assault. Which led to…
Match 4 (again): In a No DQ Match, Dump Matsumoto & Toru Owashi beat Brahmans Shu & Kei. Matsumoto pinned Kei after a body press. Sanshiro Takagi was special referee.
Match 5: Meiko Satomura beat Shin Sanshiro Takagi, an unknown wrestler dressed up as Takagi. Based on a promo for the match, I’m led to believe “Takagi”, who was seconded by the real Takagi, was actually Sakura Hirota.
Main Event: Yuji Nagata (New Japan) beat Kuroshio TOKYO Japan. Which led to…
Main Event (again): Yuji Nagata (New Japan) beat Kuroshio TOKYO Japan in 30 seconds. Which led to…
Main Event (yet again): Yuji Nagata (New Japan) beat Kuroshio TOKYO Japan. Afterwards, Takagi made Nagata & Kuroshio vs. Brahmans Shu & Kei for 4/9, and promised the fans he will compete again. He has taken a step back from wrestling and is no longer competing full time, in part to focus on front office duties and his role in a new alliance of many major and independent promotions in Japan (about the only notable promotion not part of this alliance right now is All-Japan).
The next event is Thursday, a mini-event with only 4 matches which will all be part of the D GENERATIONS CUP 2025 Tournament. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin at 2 AM PT/5 AM ET.
