DDT wraps up August with their monthly Tokyo signature event today. Less than 3 weeks after WRESTLE PETER PAN, their biggest event of the year, it’s another major event with 4 title matches currently planned. First up is a planned double title match between DDT Extreme & Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion Shunma Katsumata & O-MENZ Kumadori, emphasis on planned because you never know what may happen with the 24/7 Iron Man title. For the Extreme portion, it will be a NO REPEAT Match, meaning if either wrestler uses any move more than once in the match, excluding strikes, they are immediately DQ’d. Over the top rope rules will also be in effect meaning if one wrestler goes over the top rope and both feet touch the floor outside the ring, they lose. The match will happen for the Extreme title even if Katsumata loses the Iron Man title. Second will be a KO-D Tag Team Championship match: Originally planned to be Jun Akiyama & Rukiya challenging new champions Shinya Aoki & Junta Miyawaki, they had to change plans due to a Rukiya illness so Danshoku Dieno & Kazuki Hirata now get the title shot. Third seems like a title change waiting to happen as DDT Universal Champion Ryusuke Taguchi returns from New Japan to defend the title against Daisuke Saskai. Finally, in the main event, KO-D Openweight Champion MAO defends the title against Daichi Sato, which on paper seems like a foregone result-to-be but there’s still a “Money In The Bank” title shot waiting to be cashed in anytime, anywhere and must be cashed in within the next month. Currently it’s held by Chris Brookes but he could lose it earlier in the card, same for the right to challenge for the right, currently held by Antonio Honda and in the same situation. So until those are cashed in, card subject to change.
Today’s event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese. O-MENZ Hannya, considered the leader of the group, and Super Sasdango Machine will be today’s guests on commentary. There is a pre-show match planned before the event, so between that and the title matches I expect this to be a longer Korakuen event than normal, with a running time of at least 3 hours, maybe pushing 3 1/2 hours.
