New Japan ran a special Hirooki Goto 20th Anniversary event today in Goto’s hometown, with friends and family in attendance.
Today’s event was held at Tsu City Industrial and Sports Center in Mie. There was no live broadcast. It’s not known if there will be any on demand video.
The announced paid attendance was 1753.
Match 1: Boltin Oleg & Toru Yano beat Oskar Leube & Ryohei Oiwa. Yano pinned Oiwa.
Match 2: Francesco Akira, TJP & Great-O-Khan beat Kevin Knight, KUSHIDA & Hiroyoshi Tenzan. Khan beat Tenzan with Subaru Sheep Killer.
Match 3: Aaron Henare, Jeff Cobb & Aussie Open beat Kosei Fujita, Shane Haste, Mikey Nicholls & Zack Sabre Jr. Cobb pinned Fujita after Tour of the Islands.
Match 4: Master Wato, Shota Umino, Hikuleo & Tama Tonga beat Gedo, Taiji Ishimori, KENTA & David Finlay. Umino beat Gedo with STF.
Match 5: Tiger Mask, Ren Narita, El Desperado & Minoru Suzuki beat Tomoaki Honma, Tomohiro Ishii, Togi Makabe & Kazuchika Okada. Narita beat Honma with a cobra twist.
Match 6: DOUKI, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Taichi & SANADA beat BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi & Tetsuya Naito. Kanemaru beat BUSHI with a Figure 4.
Main Event: Hirooki Goto 20th Anniversary Match: Yoh, YOSHI-HASHI & Hirooki Goto beat Sho, Yujiro Takahashi & EVIL. Goto pinned Sho after Ascension And Kai. After the event, Katsuyori Shibata, a high school classmate of Goto, came out to begin the post-event celebration before Goto was joined by his 3 children to close the event, which was considered a great success.
The next event is tomorrow at Osaka Prefectural Gym 2 in Osaka to resume the Road to WRESTLING DONTAKU 2023 Tour. Live streaming on New Japan World will begin at 2 AM PT/5 AM ET.
