With New Japan now off for 2 weeks for the post-G1 CLIMAX break, several talents left Japan for international showcases around the world over the last couple days, a theme that will continue this week when Will Ospreay & Aussie Open return to All Elite Wrestling in the US this coming week. First, Robbie Eagles, Tiger Mask & Rocky Romero continued their current run in Mexico with participation in CMLL’s Grand Prix at Arena Mexico in Mexico City. They took part in a massive 16-man tag team elimination match, which saw Eagles, TM 4, Romero, Mesias, Oraculo, Kenny King, Matt Taven & Lince Dorado face Volador Jr., Mistico, Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis Jr., Titan, Soberano Jr., Stuka Jr. & Templario. After nearly an hour of action, the CMLL team emerged victorious when Volador eliminated TM 4 following Volador eliminating Romero after Mistico had been eliminated by TM 4 before Volador took out Romero.
Upon his return to Japan, TM 4 is expected to make additional appearances in All-Japan Pro Wrestling to defend the All-Japan World Jr. Heavyweight Championship, including a possible appearance at the promotion’s 50th Anniversary Event on 9/18 at Nippon Budokan. Minoru Suzuki will also be at the event.
Over in England, STRONG Tag Team Champions Aussie Open made their first successful title defense in partner promotion RevPro, picking up V1 by beating Connor Mills & Michael Oku at RevPro’s 10th Anniversary event. It was a great day for United Empire as a whole as RevPro British Heavyweight Champion (and IWGP US Heavyweight Champion) Will Ospreay beat Mike Bailey to retain the title, although Francesco Akira was unsuccessful in his effort to win the RevPro British Cruiserweight Championship. Ospreay & Aussie Open will be back in AEW this Wednesday to face Ospreay’s fellow British rival Pac and Mexican duo Penta El Zero M (Pentagon Jr.) & Rey Fenix in the AEW Trios Title Tournament.
