WRESTLE ODYSSEY 2, Pro Wrestling NOAH’s latest mega-blowout event scheduled for today, is now in the books.
Today’s event was held at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in English. This was an exclusive ABEMA live broadcast in Japan, which will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE soon if not already.
The announced paid attendance was 4253. Obviously they used a considerably reduced capacity setup instead of the full capacity of about 15,000 (primarily for sumo).
Pre-show match: Atsushi Kotoge & Hi69 beat Hiroto Tsuruya & Hiroya Namiki. Kotoge pinned Namiki after a bat hanging drop.
Match 1: GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions YO-HEY & Jun Masaoka beat Alejandro & Daiki Odashima to retain the titles. Masaoka pinned Odashima after Ambitions. V1 for the champs.
Match 2: Alpha Wolf & Tadasuke beat Tetsuya Endo & Yuto Koyanagi, BUSHI & RYUSEI and Kazuyuki Fujita & Black Menso-re in a 4-way when Wolf pinned Koyanagi.
Match 3: The Final Maybach: Masa Kitamiya & Takashi Sugiura beat KENTA & Maybach Taniguchi (Shuhei Taniguchi). Kitmaiya pinned Taniguchi after a diving senton. Maybach was a masked heel version of Taniguchi for most of the 2010s, during which he experienced perhaps his greatest career successes including 5 GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Championship reigns. After he unmasked he went back to being face, a jobber and the rather silly pandemic years as leader of the Funky Express with naturally-funky Mohammed Yone and naturally-unfunky Akitoshi Saito before he retured.
Match 4: Shuji Kondo beat GHC 200 Champion HAYATA by countout to win the title. Kondo becomes the second GHC 200 Champion.
Match 5: Kaito Kiyomiya & Yoshiki Inamura beat Kenoh & Kouga. Kiyomiya pinned Kouga after a skywalk elbow.
Match 6: Luis Mante (Dragon Gate) beat GHC National Champion Naomichi Marufuji to win the title. Mante becomes the 21st GHC National Champion. Mante previously was the wrestler billed as M.P.I. for this match before he unmasked.
Match 7: GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Manabu Soya & Yuki Iino beat Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholls and Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows in a 3-way, when Iino pinned Haste, to retain the titles. V3 for the champs.
Match 8: GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion Kai Fujimura beat Dragon Bane to retain the title. V2 for Fujimura.
Main Event: GHC Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito beat OZAWA to retain the title. V1 for Naito.
