AEW Dynamite 5/17/23 Results

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Houston, TX:

Just after the start of the second hour, commentary announced to the TV viewers breaking news-Superstar Billy Graham, a wrestling & WWF/E Hall Of Famer, has died at 79. He was dealing with multiple serious medical issues.

Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin beat Lee Moriarty & Big Bill. Allin pinned Moriarty.

The Young Bucks arrive as Blackpool Combat Club sneak attack them.

Sammy Guevara beat Exodus Prime. Squash.

Jeff Jarrett & crew call out FTR, leading to a beatdown and the AEW debut of Karen Jarrett, who low blows Cash Wheeler.

Euby Soho & Toni Storm beat Britt Baker & Hikaru Shida. Storm pinned Baker after Storm Zero. This was to have been Jamie Hayter, Baker & Shida vs. Saraya, Soho & Storm but Hayter was not medically cleared.

Tony Khan makes a follow-up announcement from today’s Collision announcement by TNT, which is the dates for the 2nd-7th episodes. Most in Canada with the 7/1 episode being TAPED (taping on 6/29) except for the 7th in Newark, NJ. Not announced: The location for the premiere, widely expected to be in Chicago. That will come next week. May have something to do with CM Punk.

In a Falls Count Anywhere match where Adam Cole and JAS were banned from the building, Roderick Strong beat Chris Jericho. It went outside the building at the end, meaning Cole could get involved and did.

Jungle Boy beat Rush.

Jay White beat Ricky Starks by DQ. Chair use. This was the main event.

Don Callis interview was interrupted almost immediately by Kenny Omega. BCC and The Elite came out for a big brawl and Adam Page joined in, siding with The Elite. He challenged BCC to Anarchy In The Arena at Double Or Nothing.

A good show overall but one’s view will ultimately be skewed by their expectations for the Khan follow-up announcement, namely no Punk.

Friday on Rampage at 6:30 PM ET/3:30 PM PT: BCC vs. Best Friends & Bandido, The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn vs. CVarsity Athletes, Bishop Kaun vs. Dustin Rhodes, perhaps a Jade Cargill open challenge and The Hardys promo. Early air time is due to NBA Playoffs on TNT. Next week’s Rampage is likely to be pre-empted because of NHL Playoffs IF the Eastern Conference Finals is not a 4 game sweep (next Friday on TNT would be a Game 5 if needed).

Next week: ROH Tag Team Champions Lucha Bros vs. Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta for the titles. This is the followup from the Double Jeopardy match last week.

Confirmed for Double Or Nothing: AEW TNT Champion Wardlow vs. Christian Cage in a Ladder Match for the title, AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter vs. Toni Storm for the title, a 21 Man Blackjack Battle Royal for the AEW International Championship (Orange Cassidy vs. 20 others) and more.

BREAKING: AEW Saturday Show Announced (Updated x4)

It’s now official-All Elite Wrestling announced their long-rumored Saturday show today. Specifically it was announced by Warner Bros Discovery at their annual upfronts today in New York City. Here is what we know (via Variety, link to source below):

It will premiere June 17 and be LIVE for 2 hours every Saturday. The premiere is expected to be in Chicago, IL with the only announced date so far being 7/8 in Canada.

Timeslot TBA but it will be on TNT. I’m thinking 6-8 PM as that was the WCW Saturday timeslot back in the days.

No mention of CM Punk yet.

More as it becomes available but expect more details tonight on Dynamite as part of Tony Khan’s latest promised major announcement.

UPDATE: As soon as I posted this, Variety deleted their original Twitter post with the above source link.

UPDATE 2: AEW has put out their own press release. The timeslot will be 8-10 PM ET Saturdays. No word on if west coast gets live or taped.

UPDATE 3: Now there are reports CM Punk was part of the press release originally but it was edited out and WBD now denies his involvement. An email sent out to media including to Sports Illustrated before the presentation included Punk, then another site was told Punk is not affiliated with Collision. The early thinking is his return will be a surprise/not surprise at the event.

UPDATE 4: It’s now been announced that AEW All Access will be moving to the former HBO Max (to be called just Max starting Tuesday) on 6/9. It’s not known if it will be the run of episodes that finished last week or more new episodes, or both. It previously aired on TBS after Dynamite.

AEW Dynamite 5/10/23 Results

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Detroit, MI:

Claudio Castagnoli beat Rey Fenix in a Double Jeopardy Match. As a result, Castagnoli and a partner of his choice get a future match against Lucha Bros for the ROH Tag Team Titles. Had Fenix won, he would’ve gotten a rematch later for the ROH World Title.

AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy beat Daniel Garcia to retain the title.

MIRO IS HERE! And so is Thunder Rosa!

In a No Holds Barred Match, Julia Hart beat Anna Jay.A.S.

AEW Trios Champions House Of Black beat Best Friends & Bandido to retain the titles. Brody King pinned Chuck Taylor after Dante’s Inferno. The champs have what are called House Rules for title matches now-20 counts outside the ring are enforced, no rope breaks, DQs are enforced, and the challengers can choose one rule. They chose witches are banned from ringside, meaning no Julia Hart. After the match, Orange Cassidy was seen laid out backstage at the hands of Kyle Fletcher (New Japan), who seems to be the next International Championship challenger.

In a Steel Cage Match, Jon Moxley beat Kenny Omega. Don Callis turned on Omega at the end to set up the result.

A better show than in recent weeks but a little short of PPV quality. Nothing terrible though, main event is must-see and it sets up next week. But seeing Miro back had me very excited.

This week on Rampage airing Saturday at 10 PM ET/PT: The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn vs. The Butcher, The Blade & Kip Sabian, Toni Storm vs. Allysin Kay, Kyle Fletcher vs. Action Andretti and Swerve Strickland & Brian Cage vs. John Silver & Alex Reynolds.

Next week: Ricky Starks vs. Jay White, Toni Storm/Ruby Soho/Saraya vs. Britt Baker/Jamie Hayter/Hikaru Shida, Roderick Strong vs. Chris Jericho with Adam Cole & JAS banned from ringside and Tony Khan’s next major announcement. Given WBD Upfronts (media previews of the coming TV season) are that morning it’s all but guaranteed to relate to TV, possibly confirming the long-rumored new Saturday TV show called Collision.

AEW Dynamite 5/3/23 Results

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Baltimore, MD:

Orange Cassidy, Bandido, Adam Cole & Roderick Strong beat Angelo Parker, Matt Menard, Daniel Garcia & Jake Hager. Cole pinned Parker after BOOM. Chris Jericho was on commentary. After the match, Cole took out Jericho AND the stage behind commentary. Cole then was forced out of the arena by security as Jericho kept taunting him, which allowed Britt Baker to sneak in and b*tch slap Jericho.

Saraya beat Willow Nightingale. Hikaru Shida returned post-match and appeared to align with The Outcasts, but it was a ruse as Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter hit the ring and Shida laid out The Outcasts.

The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn won the Tres De Mayo Trios Battle Royal, last eliminating The Butcher & The Blade & Kip Sabian. Other teams entered: Lucha Bros & El Hijo De Vikingo, Varsity Athletes, Dark Order, Powerhouse Hobbs & QT Marshall & Aaron Solo.

Wardlow beat Logan LeRoux. Squash. Wardlow called out Luchasaurus for an open challenge AEW TNT Title match but Christian Cage refused.

Ricky Starks beat Juice Robinson.

Darby Allin & Jungle Boy beat MJF & Sammy Guevara. Allin pinned Guevara after Coffin Drop. As a result, the Double Or Nothing Main Event is now AEW World Champion MJF vs. Guevara, Allin & Jungle Boy in a 4-way for the title (ie had been MJF-Guevara).

Another average show overall saved from being meh by the last two matches which were good. The main event wasn’t a great match but the storytelling and mind games were easily A+ material and was a lot of fun to watch.

Friday on Rampage now at 6:30 PM ET/3:30 PM PT: Mark Briscoe vs. Preston Vance, Jade Cargill vs. TBA, Lucha Bros/Vikingo vs. Hobbs/Marshall/Solo and The Firm Deletion at The Hardy Compound (The Hardys, Isaiah Kassidy & Hook vs. Big Bill, Ethan Page, Lee Moriarty & Stokely Hathaway), which likely will be a cinematic match.

Next week: Jon Moxley vs. Kenny Omega in a Steel Cage Match, AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy vs. Daniel Garcia for the title and an FTR promo.

In other AEW news, there are now rumors that Dark, the weekly YouTube program on Tuesdays, has either been cancelled or is on indefinite hiatus. This is apparently because as part of the deal for the rumored new Saturday AEW TV show (announcement being held up by CM Punk status) all AEW programming going forward will only be on WBD TV networks so no YouTube. Ring Of Honor likely would not be affected and would remain on HonorClub. This all is not yet official.

AEW Dynamite 4/26/23 Results

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Sunrise, FL (Ft. Lauderdale area):
AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy beat Bandido to retain the title.

Jeff Jarrett beat Dax Harwood.

Tony Khan’s announcement was the return of the Owen Hart Cup Tournament. Starts at Double Or Nothing in May then continues in Canada including at Forbidden Door 2 in June. Finals at Calgary debut in July.

Wardlow beat a jobber. Squash.

Sammy Guevara beat Darby Allin by DQ. Skateboard use thanks in part to MJF. As a result, Guevara will face MJF for the AEW World Championship at Double Or Nothing. Unless Allin & Jungle Boy beat MJF & Guevara in a tag match next week-if that happens, the title match becomes a 4-way with Allin & Jungle Boy included.

Adam Cole calls out Chris Jericho. Jericho sends out JAS for the beatdown which includes Orange Cassidy & Bandido when they try to make the save. Roderick Strong then comes out to clean house and reunite with Cole. After this, AEW announced Strong has signed with them.

AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill beat Taya Valkyrie to retain the title. 56-0. Valkyrie would have been DQ’d had she used Road To Valhalla aka Jaded. Cargill shockingly won with a rollup.

Kenny Omega & Konosuke Takeshita beat The Butcher & The Blade. Takeshita pinned Butcher after a knee strike. Afterwards, BCC tried to recruit Takeshita but he refused, leading to a screwdriver-fueled beatdown that continued into a brief overrun as the show ended.

An average show tonight that was billed as “massive”. Allin-Guevara was a great match despite the ending.

Friday on Rampage at 5:30 PM ET/2:30 PM PT: Ricky Starks & Shawn Spears vs. Jay White & Juice Robinson, Keith Lee & Dustin Rhodes vs. TBA, The Outcasts promo, Anna Jay.A.S. vs. Ashley D’Amboise, Cash Wheeler vs. Jay Lethal & The Acclaimed promo.

Next week: MJF & Sammy Guevara vs. Jungle Boy & Darby Allin with Allin & Jungle Boy in the Double Or Nothing Main Event if they win (if they don’t, it’s still MJF-Guevara) and Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Orange Cassidy & Bandido vs. JAS. More TBA on Rampage.
