AEW Dynamite 2/21/24 Results (Updated)

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Tulsa, OK:

Match 1: Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli vs. FTR
Result: Time Limit Draw

Orange Cassidy interviewed. Looks like he’ll face Mike Bennett tonight.

FTR interviewed. They want a rematch with BCC for Revolution. Moxley & Castagnoli interrupt as they are held back.

Match 2: Orange Cassidy vs. Mike Bennett
Result: Orange Cassidy beat Mike Bennett

Ric Flair arrives. He heads to talk to The Young Bucks.

Daniel Garcia interviewed. He gets the AEW TNT Championship match at Revolution, which brings out Christian Cage to try and talk him out of it. Cage sent Nick Wayne & Killswitch down for the beatdown but Garcia immediately put Wayne in a sharpshooter and Matt Menard made the save with a chair before Killswitch could get into the ring.

Match 3: Toni Storm vs. TBA (Sydni Winnell, a local)
Result: Toni Storm beat Sydni Winnell. Squash.

Match 4: Deonna Purrazzo vs. Madison Rayne
Result: Deonna Purrazzo beat Madison Rayne by submission. Match almost stopped when Rayne may have taken a DDT wrong and the doctor checked on Rayne, who seemed to be okay. They finished right away. Toni Storm attacked Purrazzo post-match.

Darby Allin & Sting promo.

Wardlow interviewed. Quickly becomes a very angry promo because he’s tired of screwjobs and wants his. This was really good and perhaps somewhat legit.

Rampage post-match comments with The Acclaimed & Bullet Club. Jay White proposed himself, Gunn Club & Billy Gunn in an 8-man tag for what would be this week’s Collision.

Added to Revolution: Meat Madness aka Wardlow vs. Powerhouse Hobbs.

Main Event: Hook, Rob Van Dam & Adam Page vs. Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland & Brian Cage
Result: Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland & Brian Cage beat Hook, Rob Dan Dam & Adam Page. Joe beat Van Dam with Coqina Clutch.

Clearly things didn’t go as planned tonight due to injuries and circumstances beyond their control. Not much I cared for tonight but I”ll give them a free pass this week. The Wardlow promo was must-see though.

Next week: Will Ospreay begins his full-time AEW run.

Friday on Rampage: Mariah May vs. Anna Jay, Roderick Strong vs. Jake Hager, The Young Bucks vs. TBA, a 3-way trios match and Sammy Guevara promo.

Saturday on Collision: Bryan Danielson vs. Jun Akiyama, Thunder Rosa vs. TBA and Serena Deeb vs. TBA.

UPDATE: After the show, AEW announced FTR vs. Shane Taylor & Lee Moriarty for Collision.

Reminder: No AEW Collision Tonight (2/17/24)

For those who are/were not aware, there will be no AEW Collision tonight (2/17/24) because of TNT’s coverage of the NBA All-Star Weekend. Collision will return on 2/24/24.

(There is one bit of unmentioned news coming out of yesterday’s AEW Rampage in the meantime-AEW has officially signed Queen Aminata after her first win in the promotion on Rampage. Having first seen her on Dark and impressing me there I am happy for her getting a chance like this. She reportedly is also the first African-born [not African American] woman wrestler to sign with a major US promotion)

AEW Dynamite 2/14/24 Results

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Austin, TX:

Updates below will begin at 5 PM PT/8 PM ET. (Side note: I’ve seen the premiere of their new YouTube series “Johnny Loves Taya”, which dropped today and stars Taya Valkyrie & Johnny TV. It’s only about 5 minutes long-give it a chance because it’s actually enjoyable! New episodes are to premier every Wednesday on YouTube)

Match 1: Jon Moxley vs. Dax Harwood
Result: Jon Moxley beat Dax Harwood by submission

Don Callis interviewed. He says he’s making Konosuke Takeshita vs. Will Ospreay soon, suggesting Ospreay will be part of his faction when he arrives from New Japan soon. (UPDATE: The match will happen at Revolution)

Match 2: Wardlow vs. a jobber (Barrett Brown)
Result: Wardlow beat Barrett Brown. Squash.

Footage of The Young Bucks arriving at a nearby airport earlier today. Wearing the blood-stained suits from the end of last week.

Match 3: Adam Copeland vs. Daniel Garcia
Result: No Contest. Nick Wayne & Killswitch interference. Christian Cage & Wayne’s mom followed for a beatdown on Garcia, then on Copeland as he made the save until he was low blowed by Wayne’s mom to set up a Conchairto.

Samoa Joe promo. Swerve Strickland follows with his comments on the 3-way at Revolution.

Toni Storm’s newest “film” premieres. Essentially a Storm-Deonna Purrazzo promo over their matching ankle tattoos. Purrazzo then reacts. This was much funnier than it should have been and had me laughing good.

Match 4: The Young Bucks vs. Top Flight
Result: The Young Bucks beat Top Flight. Nicholas Jackson pinned Darius Martin after EVP Trigger. The Bucks were interviewed backstage and threatened to fine Tony Schiavone for misconduct, then teased a EVP Trigger after he got knocked down, but Darby Allin made the save and made the rumored AEW Tag Team Championship between The Bucks and Allin/Sting official for Sting’s final match at Revolution.

Match 5: Willow NIghtingale vs. Skye Blue
Result: Willow Nightingale best Skye Blue

Main Event: AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy vs. Matt Taven in a NON-TITLE Texas Death Match. No pinfalls, win only by submission or KO
Result: Orange Cassidy beat Matt Taven by KO

Outside of the main event, this was a good show that I enjoyed and really got into. I don’t like the BCC-FTR angle perhaps being rushed to conclusion but Cash Wheeler likely has pending legal issues coming (going to face charges from a road rage incident in North Carolina last year that could result in up to 5 years in prison if convicted) so it’s understandable. Good build to Revolution tonight, and perhaps beyond.

Friday on Rampage at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT, with a repeat at 11:30 PM ET: Jeff Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara in a No DQ match and Queen Aminata vs. Anna Jay. The earlier time is due to NBA All-Star Weekend coverage on TNT. No Collision this weekend because of it. Collision returns next week.

Next week: Moxley/Castagnoli vs. FTR and Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland & Brian Cage vs. Adam Page, Rob Van Dam & Hook.

AEW Collision 2/10/24 Results

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Collision in Henderson, NV (Las Vegas area):

Match 1: Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Star Jr. & Esfinge (CMLL)
Result: Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli beat Star Jr. & Esfinge. Moxley beat Star with an armbar. Afterwards, Moxley threw out an open challenge to any team, which brought out FTR. They quickly went at it as security and the locker room tried to break it up, without much success. Bedlam all over the place even as they cut to commercial.

Match 2: Daniel Garcia vs. Shane Taylor
Result: Daniel Garcia beat Shane Taylor by submission

Eddie Kingston calls out Bryan Danielson for a match at Revolution in March, and adds that Danielson will have to shake his hand after Kingston wins.

Match 3: Brian Cage vs. The Outrunners in a handicap match
Result: Brian Cage beat The Outrunners. Squash. Cage laid out the Vegas Golden Knights mascot at ringside afterwards, which brought out Hook Cage & Hook brawled to the backstage area.

Adam Copeland interviewed. Daniel Garcia interrupts and this leads to a match between them for Dynamite on Wednesday for possibly an AEW TNT Championship match.

Kris Statlander, Willow Nightingale & Stokely Hathaway interviewed. Nightingale wants an AEW TBS Championship match. Hathaway can’t necessarily make it happen because he claims Tony Khan blocked Hathaway on his phone…

Result: Brody King beat Mark Briscoe

Bryan Keith promo.

Match 5: Deonna Purrazzo vs. Kiera Hogan
Result: Deonna Purrazzo beat Kiera Hogan by submission

Match 6: AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm vs. Queen Aminata in a NON-TITLE match
Result: Toni Storm beat Queen Aminata. Afterwards, Storm announced her next ‘film” will premiere Wednesday on Dynamite.

Wednesday on Dynamite: The Young Bucks vs. Top Flight, Skye Blue vs. Willow Nightingale, Copeland-Garcia, and we hear from Samoa Joe, Adam Page and Swerve Strickland.

Main Event: AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy vs. Tomohiro Ishii (New Japan) for the title
Result: AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy beat Tomohiro Ishii to retain the title.

It felt like a show that happened. Not a bad episode but I wasn’t really excited about anything with the exception of the fact we got TWO women’s matches on AEW programming for the first time in a very long time. Hey, it’s progress!

AEW Dynamite 2/7/24 Results

After the match, they cut to backstage and catch the end of a Undisputed Kingdom beatdown on Chuck Taylor.

Match 4; Chris Jericho vs. Konosuke Takeshita
Result: Konosuke Takeshita beat Chris Jericho by submission

Main Event: AEW Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks & Big Bill vs. Darby Allin & Sting in a Tornado Tag Match for the titles
Result: Darby Allin & Sting beat AEW Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks & Big Bill to become THE NEW AEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS! Sting pinned Starks after a scorpion deathdrop. Sting’s son came out to the ring to celebrate, but The Young Bucks cut that short with a baseball bat-fueled beatdown of all of them.

Strickland-Page is a definite MOTY contender and elevated what otherwise was another average but not bad Dynamite. It just took out a lot of energy from me. The big announcement fell flat for now but we’ll see what happens in 5 weeks, I guess.

Friday on Rampage: Best Friends vs. Undisputed Kingdom.

Saturday on Collision: Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli vs. 2 more of those CMLL guys (Star Jr. & Esfinge) and AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy vs. Tomohiro Ishii (New Japan) for the title (announced last week).

Result: Swerve Strickland beat Rob Van Dam. Afterwards, Tony Khan made Strickland-Adam Page 3 for next week and the winner faces Samoa Joe for the AEW World Championship at Revolution.

It was another Dynamite that happened. Nothing terrible but nothing I cared for. Straight-down-the-middle average. I did miss Jericho-Fletcher due to a personal issue that I had to tend to.

Next week: The return of the TONY KHAN HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT! Cue some potential Kazuchika Okada speculation.
