6/16 DDT Results

DDT ran their monthly DDT FREE event today (on the weekly schedule post I incorrectly said it was yesterday, DDT’s website is kinda wacky with event date/time listings), which kicked off their annual KING OF DDT Tournament. This year’s tournament takes on much greater significance because with KO-D Openweight Champion Tetsuya Endo out and forced to vacate the title because of a concussion suffered at CyberFight Festival ’22, the tournament winner also becomes the new champion.

Today’s event was held at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

The announced attendance was 444. All tickets were free and this was billed as a legit sellout. In reality this was extremely close to legit full capacity for the venue, maybe 6 short of 100% (normal capacity for wrestling at the venue is 450, maybe 500).

Before the matches began, Makoto Oishi announced he will return at the 7/24 event. He has been out for a year due to injuries.

Dark Match: Masa Takanashi & Toui Kojima vs. Yusuke Okada & Yuya Koroku went to a 10 minute time limit draw. Takanashi was to have faced Endo in the tournament but got a free pass to the Quarterfinals due to Endo being out, and this match was added to the event as a result.

All main show matches were KING OF DDT Tournament matches, no time limit.
Match 1: HARASHIMA beat Hideki Okatani.
Match 2: Naomi Yoshimura beat Chris Brookes.
Match 3: Yuki Ueno beat KANON.
Match 4: Daisuke Sasaki beat Yuji Hino.
Match 5: Yuki Iino beat MAO.
Match 6: Jun Akiyama beat Yukio Sakaguchi.
Main Event: Kazusada Higuchi beat Yukio Naya.

The next event is Sunday at Korakuen Hall with the Quarterfinals and more non-tournament matches. The Quarterfinals will be Takanashi-Higuchi, Akiyama-Iino, Sasaki-Ueno and HARASHIMA-Yoshimura. After that, the Semifinals will be determined by lottery. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin Sunday at 2:30 AM PT/5:30 AM ET.

BREAKING: DDT Title Vacated

More CyberFight Festival fallout-the KO-D Openweight Championship is now VACANT. Previous champion Tetsuya Endo has vacated the title due to injury-he suffered a concussion Sunday and is out indefinitely. The winner of the KING OF DDT Tournament, which starts tomorrow, will become the new champion. Endo’s first opponent, Masa Takanashi, will get a win by forfeit and advance to the next round

The announced paid attendance was 123, a super full house.

Match 2: Takao Soma & Kazuki Hirata beat Toru Owashi & Antonio Honda. Soma pinned Honda after Mad Splash.

Match 3: Kaji Tomato & Naomi Yoshimura beat Yuki Ueno & Shunma Katsumata. Yoshimura pinned Katsumata after Harai Goshi.

CyberFight Festival ’22 Updates

On it’s new weekly news program on YouTube, DDT announced a few changes to the CyberFight Festival card:
NOAH star Naomichi Marufuji is off the event and next week’s NOAH events due to knee pain. He was to have teamed with Atsushi Kotoge & Yoshiki Inamura to face Tetsuya Endo, Jun Akiyama & Kazusada Higuchi. Katsuhiko Nakajima is the replacement.

Kenoh vs. Daisuke Sasaki, at the request of Kenoh, is now a No DQ hardcore match.

Kenoh has been named public relations director for the event. That’s gonna be fun.

New Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling rookie Juria Nagano has been named TikTok committee chairman and various related videos will be shared from her official account.

Afterwards, Akito apparently turned on DDT and joined Pheromons after initial refusal to do so and will now be known as Nishikigi “Cochin” Akito. Kendo Ka Shin & Yumiko Hotta also were involved in all this.

Match 2: A DDT Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship Battle Royal went as follows: 1-Champion Shinichiro Kawamatsu beat Pocatan to retain the title. 2-Kazuki Hirata beat Tanomusaku Toba. 3-Kazuki Hirata beat Shinichiro Kawamatsu to win the title. Hirata becomes the 1549th champion. 4-Kazuki Hirata & Antonio Honda went to a double pinfall. As a result, Toru Owashi wins as the last person standing and becomes the 1550th champion.

DDT/Tokyo Joshi Pro News 5/29/22

A bit of DDT & Tokyo Joshi Pro news from overnight:
International Princess Champion Maki Itoh successfully defended the title against former WWE star Mia Yim this weekend at an independent event in Portland, OR. V3 for Itoh. Next up: “The Unbreakable” Rio, which has been added to 6/4 at Entetsu Hall in Shizuoka. Unfortunately there is no live broadcast on WRESTLE UNIVERSE so we’ll likely have to wait at least 3 days to see it. Itoh & Yuka Sakazaki are on their way back to Japan for this event but Miyu Yamashita is not. Apparently she is staying overseas a little longer and will miss 6/4. She should be back for CyberFight Festival.
Also, the first names for Summer Sun Festical ’22 on 7/9 have been announced: Yuki Arai, Juria Nagano and Mei Suruga, who apparently will appear as herself and not as May Saint-Michel, her usual persona in TJPW alongside Saki Akai when she appears as Saki-sama.

On the DDT side, Chris Brookes missed this weekend’s events and is now out a couple more weeks as he has been diagnosed with a sprained right ankle. He plans to be back for CyberFight Festival. Also, Gota Ihashi is now off Wednesday’s Korakuen Hall event. Enteritis.

Finally, the Japanese branch of the NIVEA skin care company will be a sponsor of CyberFIght Festival ’22, and all fans attending the event in person will receive a free product sample upon entering the venue. This came about after a NIVEA representative saw social media posts by Saki Akai about her pre-match skin care routing, which led to an offer to provide products to Akai. CyberFight management and NIVEA held discussions which led to this and possibly more. This comes admist news that Akai has just released her own own men’s skin care product called Riviera Perfect All-in-One Gel in Japan. Pre-orders just began shipping in Japan. It appears to be available only in Japan. Saki has started a Shopify page for the product, which also links to her official Instagram page. A roughly 2-month supply is available for 5500 yen in Japan and for now will only be sold via Saki’s Shopify product page. There are no plans to sell it at DDT events or DDT’s online store.
