The Coven promo.

Match 5: Impact Digital Media Champion Joe Hendry beat Sheldon Jean to retain the title.

Stwve Maclin Changing Of The Guard Ceremony. Everyone was banned from ringside. Maclin came out with camo shirt-wearing security as backup. After he issues an open challenge to any Canadian for the Impact World Championship, Scott D’Amore comes out. He suggests Maclin is ducking Aldis and doesn’t back down, even after Maclin & D’Amore had issues at Rebellion. D’Amore says that at Under Siege, Maclin will defend against PCO. Maclin’s security overwhelms PCO and the beatdown is on. At least until PCO clears them out and it’s on with Maclin until he bails for now, leaving PCO standing tall in the ring as he drives two of the security personnel through a table set up in the corner.

Next week: NEW Impact Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo vs. Taylor Wilde for the title, Masha Slamovich vs. Jordynne Grace and Impact Tag Team Champions Bullet Club (Ace Austin & Chris Bey) vs. The Design (Angels & Kon) in a NON-TITLE match. Interesting seeing Grace as rumors were her contract was up after Rebellion.

The fans are shown leaving before Mickie James makes her announcement regarding her status for Rebellion. Announced for Sunday’s FREE pre-show is Kcockouts Tag Team Champions The Coven vs. Death Dollz for the titles and Heath & Rhino vs. Champagne Singh & Shera.

Mickie James makes her announcement in an empty, dark arena. Jordynne Grace & Deonna Purrazzo are shown watching from the production area. The announcement: It’s Over. James is NOT CLEARED to compete at Rebellion so she must VACATE the Knockouts World Championship. It’s now Grace vs. Purrazzo at Rebellion for the title. James leaves the belt and her cowboy hat in the ring and exits. Grace gets up and leaves the area, leaving Purrazzo by herself. One final shot of James’ gear and the microphone in the ring closes the show. Damn…very powerful and emotional ending to what might bring The Last Rodeo to an unfortunate close.

Next up is Rebellion Sunday on PPV, FITE and (in the US, Canada, Mexico and South Korea) YouTube. The event is available on all platforms for $39.99-if you buy on FITE you also get unlimited on demand replays. If you buy on YouTube you can watch on demand for one week after the PPV. It is not available live on Impact+ or YouTube Ultimate Insider (if you subscribe to either you can watch on demand 30 days after the event as part of your subscription). Multiverse United: Only The STRONG Survive Results (3/30/23) (Updated)

Impact Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling team up tonight for a much-hyped crossover PPV event, which looks great on paper but unfortunately has taken several major hits the last few weeks due to injuries. Impact lost now-former World Champion Josh Alexander & Knockouts Champion Mickie James, taking two title matches off the event, while New Japan lost Will Ospreay, delaying a dream match with Mike Bailey. But there is still a lot to look forward to and some of the matches, on the Impact side, will further set up matches for Rebellion on 4/16. The first-ever LIVE episode of Impact Wrestling previews tonight’s event and also features at least 2 previously non-televised matches: Josh Alexander vs. KENTA for the Impact World Championship and Miyu Yamashita vs. TBA in her Impact debut. The live Impact will simulcast on AXS TV and YouTube for Ultimate Insiders (no delays this week for YouTube).

Tonight’s event will be held at the Globe Theater in Los Angeles, CA and can be watched LIVE on FITE in English for $24.99. You get the live broadcast and unlimited on demand replays, a good thing for those on the east coast because of the very late start time. It WILL NOT be available on Impact+ or New Japan World. There will be a FREE pre-show on FITE with one match 15-30 minutes before the PPV begins. Including the pre-show it’ll be a half-nighter for all but west coast fans who will be up well past late night to watch, as I expect the running time to be standard PPV length at just over 3 hours.

Tonight’s current lineup:
Pre-Show:
Yuya Uemura vs. Gabriel Kidd

Fred Rosser, Alex Coughlin, Sami Callihan & PCO vs. Eddie Edwards, Joe Hendry, Tom Lawlor & JR Kratos

Moose vs. Jeff Cobb

Result: STRING Openweight Champion KENTA beat Minoru Suzuki to regain the title

Main Event: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Mike Bailey
Result: Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Mike Bailey

End Show.

Quick post-show final thoughts: Unfortunately I got really tired late night and slept through parts of the last 2 matches but despite the injury losses this was a fantastic card top to bottom. Every match was between delivered and overdelivered and there were no bad matches. The only complaint was some technical difficulties early on with video packages and backstage interviews but that took nothing away from a crossover event that must happen again soon. Must-buy replay if you missed it.

Overall show grade: A

UPDATE: According to New Japan’s Japanese website, the announced paid attendance was 652.

BREAKING: Impact World Champion Out, Title Vacant (Updated)

Breaking news from this morning’s edition of “Busted Open”: The Impact World Championship is now VACANT because Josh Alexander is injured and out of action. Torn triceps. He was to have defended the title against KUSHIDA on 3/30 and Steve Maclin on 4/16 at Rebellion. Maclin replaced Alexander in a 6-man tag at Sacrifice tonight. He was the longest-reigning Impact World Champion in history.

More as it becomes available.

UPDATE: Impact has announced Maclin vs. KUSHIDA for the vacant Impact World Championship at Rebellion. Replacement for Alexander at Muktiverse United is TBA.

Impact Wrestling 3/23/23 Results (Updated)

Here are the quick results from tonight’s TAPED Impact Wrestling from Las Vegas, NV:

The YouTube pre-show match was Impact X Division Champion Trey Miguel vs. Kevin Knight in a NON-TITLE match.

Match 1: Time Machine (Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, KUSHIDA) beat Design (Deaner, Angels, Kon). KUSHIDA beat Angels with Hoverboard Lock.

Kenny King calls out PCO for Sacrifice.

Match 2: Deonna Purrazzo beat Savannah Evans. Evans & Gisele Shaw beat down Purrazzo afterwards.

Death Dollz argument culminates in Jessicka coming across a coffin with a hand reaching out to pull Taya Valkyrie inside. It closes as Jessicka runs away screaming. Guess this is Impact writing Taya off now that she’s signed with All Elite Wrestling and thus is probably done with Impact.

Match 3: Bully Ray & Masha Slamovich beat Tommy Dreamer & Mickie James. Bully pinned Dreamer after a piledriver. Afterwards Bully tried to powerbomb James through a table but Jordynne Grace made the save, however she inadvertently speared James when Bully dodged.

Rich Swann barges in on Steve Maclin going through Josh Alexander’s bags.

Match 4: Moose & Brian Myers beat Joe Hendry & Dirty Dango. Myers pinned Hendry after Roster Cut.

Main Event Segment: Josh Alexander comes out. He calls out Steve Maclin, who he defends the Impact World Championship against at Rebellion on 4/16. Maclin comes out and responds. Footage of Maclin observing Alexander from backstage at various events since mid-2022 is shown. Alexander wants to fight Maclin right then but Maclin refuses. He wants to win the title at Rebellion in Alexander’s hometown. But first Alexander must defend against KUSHIDA tomorrow.

Next week: The first-ever LIVE episode from Los Angeles (Anthem Studios at LA Live) leading into the Multiverse United PPV. Announced for that show: Miyu Yamashita vs. TBA, Will Ospreay vs. Homicide and Impact World Champion Josh Alexander vs. KENTA for the title. Those matches were taped already because Ospreay is injured and Alexander-KENTA already happened. Otherwise it will mainly be a preview for Multiverse United. PPV begins at 11 PM ET/8 PM PT only on FITE ($24.99).

Next up is Sacrifice tomorrow LIVE on Impact+ (subscription required, $7.99/month or $71.99/year), YouTube (Ultimate Insider subscription required, $4.99/month) and FITE ($9.99) at 8 PM ET/5 PM ET. A FREE pre-show is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET/4:30 PM PT on YouTube. & Impact+. NEAR LIVE results will be posted for the PPV portion (I will miss the pre-show due to work conflicts. Those results will be added after the PPV) but due to potential work conflicts I may be 10-15 minutes behind the action for the first hour or so. What should be 2 weeks of TV including fallout will be taped Saturday to take them from after next week to Rebellion on 4/16. Rebellion is their quarterly major PPV and will only be available live on cable/satellite providers and FITE ($39.99). Impact+ & Ultimate Inisders can watch on demand at a later date (I believe it’s 30 days but could be as much as 90 days).

UPDATE: After the show ended Impact announced on Twitter that Mickie James is now off Sacrifice. Unspecified injury. Further details announced at the event. She was to have defended the Impact Knockouts Championship against Jordynne Grace. It’s not known if this is legit or an angle (tonight’s show was taped nearly a month ago).

Impact News: Top Tag Team Staying Put

Impact Wresting has confirmed a report from Sports Illustrated earlier today that Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley, aka Motor City Machine Guns. have signed a new contract with the promotion. Terms were not revealed but they will continue to have freedom to work with other promotions including New Japan Pro Wrestling. Both have been with Impact for over 15 years and will be part of a 6-man tag with KUSHIDA at tomorrow’s Sacrifice PPV (available on FITE, Impact+ and YouTube for Ultimate Insiders).
