Tokyo Joshi Pro’s quarterly blowout event, SUMMER SUN PRINCESS ’24, kicks off a big weekend of wrestling across Japan today. Their annual summer tentpole event is a morning matinee event and is loaded up with 9 matches including 2 title matches and familiar foreign talent returning. In the main event, Princess Of Princess Champion Miu Watanabe defends the title against Rika Tatsumi. Can Watanabe keep her reign alive against her Daydream partner & friend or will Tatsumi become a 2-time champion? In the second title match, Yuki Arai looks to become a 2-time Princess Tag Team Champion by adding the title to her International Princess Championship, this time teaming with Moka Miyamoto to challenge Suzume & Arisu Endo for the titles. Elsewhere, Japanese veteran & AEW part-timer Emi Sakura makes a special appearance and Hall of Famer Aja Kong faces Shoko Nakajima.
There have been late changes to the card because Nao Kakuta & Mahiro Kiryu are off the original lineup. Kakuta is out due to a lower back injury that has put her retirement match next week in potential jeopardy. She was to have faced Yuki Kamifuku. Kakeru Sekiguchi is the replacement. Kiryu is off due to the always-vague poor health/physical condition (probably illness). She was to have teamd with Yuna Manase & Kaya Toribami to face Yuki Aino, Raku & Pom Harajuku. Moeka Haruhi, who just returned to Ganbare Pro this past weekend after an extended absence to be a kidney donor to save her sister’s life, is the replacement for her second match back. Haruhi also has joined Ganbare after spending most of the last decade as a freelancer.
Today’s event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese & English. Former SKE48 member Marika Tani makes her regular major-event appearance as a guest on Japanese commentary. Fans will be allowed to throw streamers/paper tape today. There will be a post-event party/gathering at a nearby venue after the event which may affect running times slightly although schedules are subject to change, but this probably will be a normal major event in terms of running time and go around 2 1/2 hours. The longest it could possibly go would be a little over 3 hours.

During Sayuri Namba’s opening announcements, they announce the year-end event for 12/29 and the 2025 opener for Tokyo Dome morning on 1/4/25, both at Korakuen. She then brings out Nao Kakuta to address the crowd, appearing even though she can’t compete today due to a back injury. Up Up Girls then come out. (Looks like matches will begin around 7:15 PM PT)

Result: Wakana Uehara, Toga & Runa Okubo beat HIMAWARI, Shino Suzuki & Haru Kazashiro. Toga pinned Suzuki after Rock Bottom.
Match 2: Chika Nanase vs. Kira Summer. 15 minute time limit
Result: Kira Summer beat Chika Nanase. Kira’s first career victory!
Match 3: Mei Suruga (Chocolate Pro Wrestling) vs. Uta Takami. 15 minute time limit
Result: Mei Suruga beat Uta Takami by submission. More of a comedy match.
Match 4: Yuki Aino, Raku & Pom Harajuku vs. Yuna Manase (Ganbare Pro), Moeka Haruhi (Ganbare Pro) & Kaya Toribami. 20 minute time limit
Result: Yuki Aino, Raku & Pom Harajuku beat Yuna Manase, Moeka Haruhi & Kaya Toribami. Aino pinned Toribami after Venus DDT. Comedy match of course.
Match 5: Yuki Kamifuku vs. Kakeru Sekiguchi (Independent/Freelancer). 15 minute time limit
Result: Yuki Kamifuku beat Kakeru Sekiguchi. Nao Kakuta, who was supposed to have faced Kamifuku, was at ringside for the match. Post-match, Kamifuku with microphone. She briefly put Kakuta over then Kakuta came in to apologize for not being able to compete and thanked the crowd for coming out. She hoped they would come to her retirement match Thursday.
Match 6: Miyu Yamashita & Maki Itoh vs. Emi Sakura (Chocolate Pro Wrestling/All Elite Wrestling) & Mizuki. 20 minute time limit
Result: Miyu Yamashita & Maki Itoh beat Emi Sakura & Mizuki. Yamashita pinned Mizuki after Skull Kick. And for good measure Sakura gave Mizuki a tilt-a-whrl backbreaker afterwards. Happy Happy!
Match 7: Aja Kong (OZ Academy) vs. Shoko Nakajima. 20 minute time limit
Result: Aja Kong beat Shoko Nakajima
Match 8: Princess Tag Team Champions Suzume & Arisu Endo vs. Yuki Arai & Moka Miyamoto for the titles. 30 minute time limit (This is the first time I’ve ever seen Suzume without her traditional jet-black hair! She dyed it blonde today, also has a new outfit)
Result: Princess Tag Team Champions Suzume & Arisu Endo beat Yuki Arai & Moka Miyamoto to retain the titles. Endo beat Miyamoto with a camel clutch. V2 for the champs.

Result: Princess Of Princess Champion Miu Watanabe beat Rika Tatsumi to retain the title. V3 for Watanabe. Next up: Probably the Tokyo Princess Cup winner at WRESTLE PRINCESS 5 unless Watanabe wins.
The next event is the Nao Kakuta Retirement Event (they call it graduation) Thursday at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring in Tokyo. Hopefully Kakuta will be able to compete in her final match. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin at 2:30 AM PT/5:30 AM ET.
