Sumo-Miyagino/Hakuho Update

Updating the stories from last week about the status of Miyagino fka ex-Yokozuna Hakuho, his retirement request was accepted today by the Japan Sumo Association and will be official next Monday, June 9 when he reportedly returns from a trip back to his native Mongolia. Also today, the transfer of Isegahama Beya to ex-Yokozuna Terunofuji was made official and Isegahama was appointed as a special counselor to the stable despite having to retire, but as a former Yokozuna he also is given 5 years of elder stock and that reportedly means he’ll become, of all people, Miyagino. The stable is expected to reopen but not until the end of the year as reports from Nikkan Sports and YouTuber Chris Sumo indicates some within the Isegahama conglomerate, including stablemaster Asakayama who is also a Director in the Association, pushed for it to happen sooner AND for Hakuho to remain onboard, but the major dissenting voice was Hakkaku, the current Chairman of the Association, who reportedly didn’t get along well with Hakuho. Plus Hakuho reportedly didn’t want to be a junior on paper to his felloe Mongolian Yokozuna. There also was talk of moving the Miyagino wrestlers to Asakayama Beya. For now they remain Isegahama men. Chris Sumo also notes Hakuho does have his share of powerful allies inside and outside of sumo so this could set off a civil war of sorts. I liken what could happen to “Star Wars”, with the Association as the Empire and Hakuho as the Rebellion.

They didn’t take much if any action last week because it was a period of celebration for the promotion of Onosato to Yokozuna, the first Japanese born Grand Champion in roughly 8 years. The last one? Kisenosato, now Onosato’s stablemaster Nishonoseki.

Pro Wrestling NOAH 6/2/25 Results

Pro Wrestling NOAH ran Episode 2 of MONDAY MAGIC Prime Time today, looking to build on last week’s episode which was the most-watched MONDAY MAGIC to date on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

Today’s event was held at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

Match 1: Junta Miyawaki beat HAYATA & Kai Fujimura in a 3-way by pinning Fujimura.

Match 2: AKIRA & Danny Duggan beat Masa Kitamiya & Daiki Odashima. Duggan pinned Odashima after a tombstone piledriver.

Match 3: Dragon Bane, Titus Alexander & Archie Cole beat Alpha Wolf, Robert Marter & Saxon Huxley. Bane pinned Marter after Twisterbane.

Match 4: Takumi Iroha beat GHC Women’s Champion Kouki Amarei to win the title. Iroha becomes the second GHC Women’s Champion.

Main Event: GHC Hardcore Champion Shuji Kondo beat Manabu Soya to retain the title. V2 for Kondo. In a 3-day stretch of title matches Soya is now 0-2.

The next event is tomorrow at Korakuen Hall with 3 title matches including a 3-way for the GHC Heavyweight Championship and Soya trying AGAIN for the GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Championship after failing yesterday. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin at 2:30 AM PT/5:30 AM ET. The live broadcast will be in English only because of being an exclusive ABEMA live broadcast in Japan.

Pro Wrestling NOAH 6/1/25 Results

Pro Wrestling NOAH continued the SUNNY VOYAGE 2025 Tour today in Saitama, the start of June which is designated as Mitsuharu Misawa Memorial Month in the promotion in memory of the legendary wrestler who also was the promotion’s founder. Misawa would have turned 63 on 6/18.

Today’s event was held at Westa Kawagoe Multipurpose Hall in Saitama and will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE Wednesday. There was no live broadcast.

The announced paid attendance was 359.

Match 1: Dragon Bane, Alpha Wolf & Eita beat Mohammed Yone, Atsushi Kotoge & Hajime Ohara. Bane pinned Ohara.

New Japan wrapped up the Best Of The Super Junior 32 Tournament today with the Finals.

Today’s event was held at Ota City General Gym in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on New Japan World.

The announced paid attendance was 3044.

Pre-show match: Robbie X beat Shoma Kato.

Match 1: Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Sho, Yujiro Takahashi, Ren Narita & SANADA beat Kevin Knight, KUSHIDA, Master Wato, Boltin Oleg & Toru Yano. Kanemaru beat Wato with a figure 4.

Match 2: Francesco Akira, Callum Newman & Great-O-Khan beat Tomoaki Honma, YOSHI-HASHI & Taichi. Khan pinned Honma after a wrist clutch Eliminator.

Main Event: Best Of The Super Junior Finals: Kosei Fujita beat Yoh to win the tournament. Fujita becomes the youngest BOSJ winner in history. As a result, Fujita also gets an IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship shot in the near future.

The next event is DOMINION, the annual June blowout event, on 6/15 at Osaka-jo Hall in Osaka. Live streaming on New Japan World OUTSIDE JAPAN ONLY will begin at midnight PT/3 AM ET. This will be a live & exclusive TV Asahi broadcast in Japan.

Also coming up before then is a New Japan/DDT crossover event focused on a Toru Yano vs. Super Sasadango Machine match on 6/9 at Korakuen Hall. That event will be a live PPV on both New Japan World and WRESTLE UNIVERSE for 2500 Japanese yen (around $17 US) beginning at 3 AM PT/6 AM ET.

6/2/25 UPDATE: At today’s customary post-tournament presser, it was confirmed the title match between Desperado & Fujita will not happen at DOMINION. There is a chance of it happening on 6/24 at Korakuen Hall at an El Desperado Produced event although Desperado wants to defend the title against Jun Sakai that day. That is not yet official so officially the date is TBA. I’m thinking either 7/4 at Tokyo Budokan (Nippon Budokan?) or 7/6 at Korakuen.

Also announced today by Stardom were upcoming IWGP Women’s Championship matches: Syuri will make her first title defense Friday (6/6/25) vs. Alex Windsor at a Pro Wrestling EVE event in England. You may be able to watch that match on YouTube although it will likely be paywalled. Whoever comes out as champion will defend in Stardom on 6/21/25 at Yoyogi National Stadium Gym 2 vs. Sareee. That will, while not yet announced, almost definitely be a PPV on Stardom World.

UPDATE 2: DDT has now announced Fujita will make his first appearance in the promotion on their 7/13 event. He will be in a tag match with TBA, billed as his “friend”, as his partner.

UPDATE 3: It’s now official-El Desperado vs. Jun Kasai on 6/24 will be for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship.

UPDATE 4: Following up on Update 2 above, said “friend” teaming with Fujita on 7/13 in DDT is Takeshi Masada. They will face To-y & Yuya Koroku.

All-Japan Pro Wrestling 6/1/25 LIVE Results (Updated x2)

All-Japan kicks off their June tour, the Super Power Series 2025, today with a major event in Sendai. 3 title matches headline the event starting with an All-Japan World junior Heavyweight Championship match as new champion Seiki Yoshioka defends for the first time against Dan Tamura. The second title match sees All-Japan World Tag Team Champions Kento Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi, the landmark 100th champions, make their first defense against Shotaro Ashino & Xyon. Finally, in the main event, it’s a brotherly affair as Jun Saito defends the Triple Crown against his brother Rei Saito, this year’s Champions Carnival winner. Two things for sure-I’ll be happy no matter how this match ends and afterwards, it will be all about DOOM!!!

There has been a last-minute change to the card because Taishin Nagao is now off the event. Unspecified injury. He was to have faced Hideki Suzuki. Takashi, the former Takashi Yoshida who is now using just his first name as announced recently by home promotion Dragon Gate, is the replacement.

Today’s event will be held at Sendai Sun Plaza in Sendai and can be watched LIVE on AJPW.TV in Japanese. It will also be taped for broadcast on GAORA SPORTS in Japan at a later date. There will be an intermission before the title matches (the last 3) so it’s going to be a long event, based on the later TV broadcast schedules I’d anticipate it running about 3 1/2 hours so I may not make it all the way through. And you never know because of that Kuroshio TOKYO Japan guy being on the card with his unpredictable entrance antics.

The new Hokuto army member’s name is Talos according to a more accurate translation (not Taros as I thought). And because Hokuto Omori is so obsessed with keeping the titles, Talos will team with Omori & Aizawa No. 1 for an All-Japan AJPW.TV 6-Man Tag Team Championship match on 6/14 against champions Omori, Kumaarashi & Takashi. Inter-faction warfare!

As far as the other title matches above, the All-Japan World Tag Team Championship match is now official for 6/18. TBA teaming with Madoka Kikuta will be KAI. Also set for 6/18 is Jun Saito-Hideki Suzuki fro the Triple Crown and Yoshioka vs. Naruki Doi for the All-Japan World Junior Heavyweight Championship. Other matches TBA.

Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling 6/1/25 LIVE Results (Updated)

Tokyo Joshi Pro continues the spring 2025 house show tour today in Nagoya, returning for the first time since Yuki Arai’s emotional farewell to SKE48 at the end of March. Now she comes home for the first time as a full-time pro wrestler, and with a top-selling photobook as well that marked her true idol rite-of-passage, and she is in the main event. It’s a unique match that starts as an 8-woman tag elimination match but when it’s over, the winners-if more than one winner remains-face off in a series of elimination matches with the last woman standing getting the next shot at Mizuki for the Princess of Princess Championship, so it’s a huge opportunity. Elsewhere, a new trainee begins her pro career today at Ren Konatsu, with her full name now given (previously she was just Konatsu), will debut today against Suzume.

Today’s event will be held at Chunichi Hall in Nagoya and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. You can also watch the entire live broadcast FOR FREE on YouTube. There will be no on demand replay available on YouTube afterwards, only on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. There will be no commentary. There is a DDT event at the venue later today so they will be on the close as to how long the event can go-with how the main event is structured it may run a little longer than a standard house show so I’ll predict it’ll go 2 1/4-2 1/2 hours.

The venue’s max capacity is roughly 600 but they’ll be using a smaller setup this time as the ring is on the floor and not the stage, which suggests a setup for maybe 450-500. No Raku for Up Up Girls today as she was in Thailand for Setup Pro Wrestling, and it appears she lost the Setup All-Asia Championship to Matcha, who becomes the 3rd Champion. She was the first before losing it to Pom Harajuku.

Result: Suzume beat Ren Konatsu by submission. A fine debut effort by Konatsu, she looked unsteady at times but had her moments and also some vocal supporters in the crowd. Hopefully with time and more experience she will become another solid rising star in the promotion.

New ring-announcer-in-training Rise Suzuki takes over for Sayuri Namba for now as she continues preparing to take over full-time (they’re alternating matches today). New referee Pumi also comes in for the next match, she just debuted a couple weeks ago.

Match 5: Shoko Nakajima & Haru Kazashiro vs. Kaya Toribami & HIMAWARI. 20 minute time limit. Noteworthy: HIMAWARI was sporting an eyepatch over her left eye. Working through an injury?
Result: Shoko Nakajima & Haru Kazashiro beat Kaya Toribami & HIMAWRI. Nakajima pinned Toribami with a Northern Lights suplex hold. (They’re facing off soon for Nakajima’s MLW Women’s Featherweight Championship so there’s beef and Nakajima showed it by taunting Toribami post-match)

Result: Yuki Arai beat Arisu Endo. As a result, Arai gets a future Princess Of Princess Championship shot. OMG!!! YES YES YES!!! Could Arai beat Mizuki at SUMMER SUN PRINCESS ’25 if it happens then? DDT 5/31/25 Results

DDT held a special mini-event today in Tokyo, setting up inside a train station exit in Shinjuku for the third straight year.

Today’s event was held at Shinjuku Takashimaya 1st Floor JR Exit Special Venue in Tokyo and may be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at a later date. There was no live broadcast.

The paid attendance was not announced but there also were free activities.

Match 1: KANON won a 7 man battle royal, last eliminating Poision Sawada JULIE. As a result, KANON but to be publicity ambassador for the day. After this…
Poison Sawada JULIE beat DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion Pocotan’s Head to win the title. JULIE becomes the 1748th Champion. Yes, a costumed wrestler’s head. Afterwards, JULIE announced a new belt for the title will be revealed on 6/29 at Korakuen Hall, which ironically is the 25th anniversary of the title.

Match 2: Kazusada Higuchi, Yuya Koroku & Daichi Sato beat Daisuke Sasaki, Hideki Okatani & MJ Paul. Higuchi pinned Paul after a lariat.

A talk show event was held with Yuki Iino, who is currently out due to injury, and former wrestler Saki Akai making a special appearance.

Main Event: Yuki Ueno, Shunma Katsumata & To-y beat Chris Brookes, HARASHIMA & Takeshi Masada. Ueno pinned Masada after Everyone’s Madmax. Naturally this event finished like these events usually do-with a Heatwave WER!!

Tokyo Joshi Pro 5/31/25 Results

Tokyo Joshi Pro continued the spring house show tour today in Tokyo, visiting Nerima for the first time in 4 years.

Today’s event was held at Nerima Coconeri Hall in Tokyo and will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at a later date. There was no live broadcast.

The announced paid attendance was 238, a super full house/very near sellout.

There were some last-minute changes to the card due to a number of absences-Kira Summer, Hyper Misao & Neko Haruna are all out due to injuries. While not affecting the card, also absent were Raku (also off tomorrow) and Yuki Kamifuku due to international excursions. Kamifuku should be back for the next event.

During opening announcements, it was announced that Max The Impaler will return to TJPW at SUMMER SUN PRINCESS ’25 on 7/21. Also today is the on-sale date for Sayuri Namba’s new photobook which she says will also be available online worldwide.

Match 1: Tokyo Princess Cup Qualifier League: Moka Miyamoto beat Mahiro Kiryu. As a result, Miyamoto advances to the final qualifiers.

A scheduled Tokyo Princess Cup Qualifier League match between Wakana Uehara & Kira Summer was POSTPONED due to a Summer injury. She is expected to be out 4 weeks as of earlier this week. If Summer can return by June 22 the match will be rescheduled. If not, Uehara will win by forfeit and advance.

Match 2: Miu Watanabe, Wakana Uehara & Ivy Steele beat Pom Harajuku, HIMAWARI & Haru Kazashiro. Watanabe beat Kazashiro with a Canadian backbreaker.

Match 3: Rika Tatsumi & Yuki Aino beat Yuki Arai & Mifu Ashida. Tatsumi pinned Ashida after Twist Of Fate.

Match 4: Mizuki & Jada Stone beat Maki Itoh & Ura Takami. Stone pinned Takami after Spark Stunner. Based on a post-match promo, Takami may now be part of a new faction Itoh is assembling.

Match 5: Kaya Toribami, Toga & Shino Suzuki beat Shoko Nakajima, Arisu Endo & Chika Nanase. Toribami pinned Nanase.

Main Event: International Princess Champion Suzume beat Yoshiko Hasegawa to retain the title. V6 for Suzume. That ties the record for most successful defenses set just this past year by Arai, so if a V7 comes that admittedly won’t sit well with me (I like Suzume but only want her to lose the title because she beat Arai to win it).

The next event is tomorrow at Chunichi Hall in Nagoya, which will feature a unique match starting as an 8-woman tag then becoming an elimination match for the next Princess Of Princess Championship match and the debut of a new wrestler. This is also Yuki Arai’s return to her hometown for the first time since her departure from SKE48 following her final performances in March.
