AEW News: The Chairman Packs It Up

Confirming reports on various news sites today, AEW original Shawn Spears announced he is leaving the promotion. His contract is up this weekend and says it was a personal decision to leave. He hasn’t been featured much in AEW since the pandemic and last was seen at the All Out PPV in September. He also is expecting his second child with wife Cassie Lee (the former Peyton Royce in WWE) after their first child arrived earlier this year.

Spears was previously Tye Dillinger in WWE and NXT before AEW but there is no word on where he may go next. His Chairman gimmick in AEW involved, of course, chairs.

Strickland is 4-1, 12 points. Rush is 3-2, 6 points. That means if Moxley loses tonight, there is a 3-way tie for 1st and we may need a tiebreaker match (Moxley beat Strickland but would have lost to White, Strickland beat White but lost to Moxley)

Storm’s exit was interrupted by Tony Schiavone reading a prepared statement from Christian Cage, who claims he’ll be back on Collision.

MJF & Samoa Joe argue backstage then split up before MJF sees a ski mask on the ground in front of Mogul Embassy’s locker room. When Prince Nana answers MJF physically threatens him, leading to a confrontation with Swerve Strickland. MJF goes so far to suggest Strickland is The Devil and framed Adam Page as The Devil to get to MJF before Joe breaks it up.

Main Event: Continental Classic Gold Block: Jay White vs. Jon Moxley. Moxley has advanced. White must win to force a 3-way tiebreaker
Result: Jay White beat Jon Moxley
Both are 4-1, 12 points. As a result, because of tiebreakers, the Gold Block Final next week will be a 3-way between Moxley, Strickland and White.

Like each of the last 4 weeks with the tournament, not a great show but a good 2 hours. My only real complaint was there were technical issues with the broadcast cutting out or freezing at the start of each match except the main event. Otherwise it was another solid Dynamite, not as good as the first 2 weeks of the tournament but not off by very much.

Friday on Rampage: AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy vs. Rocky Romero for the title. Everything else TBA.

UPDATE: El Hijo Del Vikingo vs. Black Taurus may also be another match for Rampage.
