Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Collision in Newark, NJ:

Ricky Starks comes out first to celebrate winning the Owen Hart Cup Tournament last week. CM Punk comes out and they go back and forth until Christian Cage interrupts, followed by Darby Allin. This all leads to Punk & Allin vs. Starks & Cage being made for tonight.

Miro vs. TBA also has been added.

Result: AEW Trios Champions House Of Black beat The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn to retain the titles. Malakai Black pinned Gunn after a spinning head kick. Afterwards, Gunn took off his boots and left them in the ring before walking out, usually a sign of a wrestler retiring.

FTR brought out for interview. They go real-life past & present to deliver a message to Adam Cole & MJF, who get a title match next week for winning the Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament.

BLOOD & GUTS highlight video.

Match 4: Skye Blue vs. Taya Valkyrie

Main Event: CM Punk & Darby Allin vs. Christian Cage & Ricky Starks

BREAKING: During the main event it was announced that Matthews-Andrade next week is now a Ladder Match with Andrade’s mask hanging above the ring. (Update: It was later mentioned that Malakai Black & Brody King are banned from the building for the match)

A good show overall, I enjoyed it and there really was nothing bad this week. Collision seems to be more clearly establishing its identity now as an alternate to Dynamite & Rampage and is doing some things right like giving main events a lot of time. I don’t like how it’s still just one women’s match though, but it seems like Tony Khan really doesn’t care about the women’s division much (see throwing Britt Baker in a squash on Dynamite Wednesday just to get a match on TV). Other than that, for the most part I’ve been enjoying Collision and it’s generally worth watching.

End Show.

AEW Dynamite 7/19/23 Results

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Boston, MA:

Updates will begin at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.

Because of the main event being BLOOD & GUTS and the complex setup requiring 2 rings to be completed ahead of time, the 2 ring setup will be in place for all matches tonight as well as the post-show Rampage taping.

Live results below.

Match 1: FTW Champion Hook vs. Jungle Boy for the title
Before intros Jungle Boy was seemingly buried and he came out wearing a black biker jacket & matching black leather pants, introduced as just Jack Perry. So apparently Jungle Boy is dead and Perry is now a full heel.
Result: Jack Perry beat FTW Champion Hook to become THE NEW FTW CHAMPION! First loss for Hook. Heel tactics by using a title belt shot after a ref bump and slow count to win.

Match 2: Britt Baker vs. TBA. TBA is Kayla Sparks. This was just added during match 1
Result: Britt Baker beat Kayla Sparks by submission. Squash.

Match 3: Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament Finals: MJF & Adam Cole vs. Daniel Garcia & Sammy Guevara
Result: MJF & Adam Cole beat Daniel Garcia & Sammy Guevara to win the tournament. MJF pinned Garcia. As a result, MJF & Cole will face AEW Tag Team Champions FTR for the titles on the 7/29 Collision. FTR came out for the staredown to start the build.

BLOOD & GUTS will begin after the current commercial. They will have pretty much the entire second hour so plan on the match going a minimum of 45 minutes.

Friday on Rampage: Royal Rampage for an AEW TNT Title shot at All Out (20 entrants in 2 rings), Kris Statlander vs. Marina Shafir for the TBS Title and QT Marshall, Aaron Solo & Johnny TV vs. The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn.

Saturday on Collision: Acclaimed/Gunn vs. House OF Black for the AEW Trios Title. More TBA on Rampage.

Main Event; BLOOD & GUTS. 2 start for 5 minutes, then a new entrant comes in every 3 minutes. Blackpool Combat Club won a coin flip so they have the advantage until everyone enters. The match officially begins when all 10 men have entered, the only way to win is by submission or surrender.
Order of entry: 1-Claudio Castagnoli. 2-Kenny Omega. 3-Pac. 4-Adam Page. 5-Jon Moxley. 6-Nick Jackson. 7-Wheeler Yuta. 8-Matt Jackson. 9-Konosuke Takeshita. 10-Kota Ibushi
Result: The Elite beat Blackpool Combat Club. Page & one of the Jacksons beat Yuta by surrender (choke out with a chain)

End Show.

Your opinion of this show will largely depend on your opinion of Blood & Guts (I thought it delivered as advertised). For me it made this episode perhaps the best one of the year although they’ll come up with something huge for the New York City return in September. Everything else was good and the opening match will send the Hook-Perry feud nuclear. The tag team match was great comedy. I am very curious about where Hook goes from here now that he’s no longer unbeaten.

Collision was great because of the instant classic first match. BOTB 7 was awful and is skippable.

DEVELOPING: NJPW Legend Possibly At AEW Tomorrow

There are reports on the net, confirmed via his Twitter, that New Japan legend Jushin Thunder Liger apparently will be at tomorrow’s AEW Collision in Calgary, Canada. A translation of the original Japanese notes Liger was invited to be a guest for the Owen Hart Cup Finals tomorrow and is flying from Tokyo to San Francisco, CA then to Calgary. Liger had some history with the late Owen Hart in their early careers in the 1980s & 1990s, both in New Japan and Calgary’s legendary Stampede Wrestling. It’s not known yet if Liger will appear on the broadcast or not. Considering he is also a WWE Hall Of Famer, it makes things interesting there although AEW has a partnership with New Japan. I imagine there would be no WWE mention. We’ll see tomorrow.

Injury Report: Pain Before Dishonor

AEW/Ring Of Honor owner Tony Khan took to Twitter a short time ago to announce a major change to ROH’s Death Before Dishonor PPV next Friday-Mark Briscoe, who was to have faced Claudio Castagnoli for the ROH World Championship, is now off. Not medically cleared due to injury-knee according to non-AEW/ROH sources, who also say it will likely require surgery. Out indefinitely but surgery means months if that happens. No potential replacement named yet but changes will be announced after next week’s AEW Dynamite, likely meaning at the next TV tapings which now seem to be before & after Collision on Saturdays.

More as it becomes available.

Afterwards, Joe offered a handshake which Punk accepted, but Joe turned it into Coqina Clutch and choked Punk out before leaving as FTR came out. Starks then came out for a staredown from the ramp before slowly walking away to wrap things up.

End Show.

It was a fine show overall, slightly above average. Collision is still establishing its identity and this was only week 4, but they need to get rid of hard commercial breaks. They hardly do them during matches on Dynamite anymore and it gets annoying. Last-minute changes and postponing matches like Athena-Nightingale does not help either.

Next week: Both Owen Hart Cup Finals (Punk-Starks, Ruby Soho/Skye Blue-Athena/Nightingale) and FTR-White/Robinson in a 2/3 Falls match for the AEW Tag Team Championship. BOTB 7 airs immediately afterwards.
