DDT Pro Wrestling “WHO’S GONNA TOP? 2022” Results (9/25/22)

DDT runs their monthly major event today, this month finishing up the “WHO’S GONNA TOP? 2022” tour with an event headlined by a pair of big title matches. First up, DDT Universal Champion Yuki Ueno defends against the oddly artistic Cara Noir in perhaps an offbeat battle of the best entrances in the promotion (Noir’s Black Swan-esque entrance may be longer than the actual match!). Then, in the main event, KO-D Openweight Champion Kazusada Higuchi continues his flag-bearing path of wanting the best and getting the best as he defends the title against former champion Konosuke Takeshita.

Today’s event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese and English. Japanese anime voice actress Mayu Iizuka returns as a guest on Japanese commentary for the second consecutive live broadcast after being a guest at last week’s Jun Akiyama 30th Anniversary event. The English commentary team will be Baliyan Akki & Christelle Ciari. There is a pre-show dark match scheduled 20 minutes before the event that likely will be part of the live broadcast so if you want to possibly catch that match, tune in when the live stream launches.

Today’s lineup:

Main Show:
MAO, Asuka (Veny) & Saki Akai vs. Toru Owashi, Kazuki Hirata & Antonio Honda

Updates below will begin at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT. The pre-show match is scheduled to begin at 10:10 PM ET/7:10 PM PT.

10 PM ET UPDATE: Live updates begin below.

The stream has launched. The pre-show match should begin in 10 minutes.
The paid attendance will be announced after the event. Because vocal cheering/support is allowed, capacity will be limited to 50% so if it sells out it will only be in the 600-700 range.

10:10 PM ET UPDATE: We are LIVE from Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Your Japanese hosts are Ken Kato, Kagehiro Osano & Mayu Iizuka. Your English hosts are Baliyan Akki & Christelle Ciari.

Pre-show Match: Hideki Okatani & Toui Kojima vs. Yuya Koroku & Yuki Ishida. 10 minute time limit
Result: Hideki Okatani & Toui Kojima beat Yuya Koroku & Yuki Ishida. Okatani pinned Ishida after a double arm suplex.

Updates will resume when the main show’s first match begins, which should be in 15-20 minutes (as of 10:20 PM ET). Your new Japanese host is Haruo Murata, replacing Ken Kato, alongside Kagehiro Osano & Mayu Iizuka.

During GM Imabayashi’s opening announcements, Sumi Kazuma, a new rookie wrestler, is introduced. His Debut Match will be 10/23 against Kazuki Hirata.
On 12/21 at Korakuen Hall there will be a Danshoku Dieno 20th Anniversary event. And a book release is coming.

Main show:
Match 1: MAO, Asuka (Veny) & Saki Akai vs. Toru Owashi, Kazuki Hirata & Antonio Honda. 30 minute time limit
Result: MAO, Asuka & Saki Akai beat Toru Owashi, Kazuki Hirata & Antonio Honda. Akai pinned Honda after New Face Award at the end of a hilarious comedy sequence.

Match 2: Shinya Aoki vs. Shunma Katsumata & Yuki Iino in a 3-way for Aoki’s “Money In The Bank” NFT that allows the holder to challenge for any DDT title anytime, anywhere. 30 minute time limit
Result: Shinya Aoki beat Shunma Katsumata & Yuki Iino by pinning Katsumata to retain the NFT. Aoki won after turning himself into one of the Pheromones to cap what of course was a ridiculous comedy match. But that’s what makes DDT what it is.

The D KING GRAND PRIX Participants are announced: Yuki Ueno, Naomi Yoshimura, Joey Janela, Tetsuya Endo, Daisuke Sasaki and RSP (Rickey Shane Page) in Block A, Kazusada HIguchi, Chris Brookes, MAO, Yuji Hino, KANON and Yukio Naya in Block B. The tournament takes place over 7 events starting 11/1 and ending on 12/4, both those events are at Korakuen. Kenta Kobashi will be the D KING GRAND PRIX chairman.

Match 3: Osamu Nishimura & Shinichiro Kawamatsu (the wrestling politicians!) vs. Akito & Yukio Naya. 30 minute time limit
Result: Akito & Yukio Naya beat Osamu Nishimura & Shinichiro Kawamatsu. Naya beat Kawamatsu with a standing cobra twist.

Match 4: Daisuke Sasaki, Minoru Fujita & KANON vs. Naomi Yoshimura, Yuji Hino & Makoto Oishi. 30 minute time limit
Result: Daisuke Sasaki, Minoru Fujita & KANON beat Naomi Yoshimura, Yuji Hino & Makoto Oishi. Sasaki beat Oishi with a crossface. Afterwards, Sasaki & KANON beat down Oishi until Shiori Asahi returned with a skateboard to make the save.

Match 5: Tetsuya Endo, Jun Akiyama, Yusuke Okada & Takeshi Masada vs. Sanshiro Takagi, HARASHIMA, Yukio Sakaguchi & Takao Soma. 30 minute time limit
Result: Sanshiro Takagi, HARASHIMA, Yukio Sakaguchi & Takao Soma beat Tetsuya Endo, Jun Akiyama, Yusuke Okada & Takeshi Masada. Sakaguchi pinned Okada after a jumping knee strike.

Match 6: DDT Universal Champion Yuki Ueno vs. Cara Noir for the title. 1 Hour time limit
Result: DDT Universal Champion Yuki Ueno beat Cara Noir to retain the title. V1 for Ueno. Next up: One of those despicable Pheromones, namely Koju Takeda, who was not there but delivered a challenge via an iPhone transported in Yuki Iino’s butt. Seriously. GM Imabayashi made it official.

Main Event: KO-D Openweight Champion Kazusada Higuchi vs. Konosuke Takeshita for the title. 1 Hour time limit
Result: KO-D Openweight Champion Kazusada Higuchi beat Konosuke Takeshita to retain the title. V2 for Higuchi. (This would seem to give weight to rumors I read on US news sites earlier in the day that Takeshita may be returning to All Elite Wrestling in October, plus his not being in the D KING GRAND PRIX) Next up: Possibly Shinya Aoki. He came out to give Higuchi a fist bump before leaving. Could be cashing in the NFT soon for a title shot. Or not. Because next up will be…Yukio Sakaguchi. That will happen at an upcoming Korakuen event, , which could be 10/12 or 10/23…the latter is Higuchi’s birthday. Updates will follow but remember Higuchi left Sakaguchi’s Eruption faction when he won the title earlier this year by winning the KING OF DDT Tournament. Now Sakaguchi wants his.

The next event is a Tetsuya Endo Homecoming & 10th Anniversary Event on 10/2 at Shiroishi White Cube in Miyagi. There will be no live broadcast.

UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 701, a legit sellout.
Both title matches coming out of this-Ueno-Iino for the Universal Championship and Higuchi-Sakaguchi for the KO-D Openweight Championship-will happen on 10/23 at Korakuen.

DDT Pro Wrestling “STERNNESS 30th Anniversary” Results (9/18/22)

30 years ago, a babyfaced TAKA Michinoku-lookalike named Jun Akiyama debuted in Japan. A lot of potential and high expectations were quickly placed upon the young prospect, and for a while it seemed he would live up to them in All-Japan Pro Wrestling. He would be part of the mass exodus at the end of the 1990s that left to form Pro Wrestling NOAH with the late Mitsuharu Misawa. Then injuries and inconsistency struck and it looked like those expectations wouldn’t be met, but over time he got healthy, turned things around and did reach those lofty peaks. He shocked the Japanese wrestling landscape in 2020 by jumping to DDT after his contract expired, and today DDT celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Akiyama’s debut with a special event that will feature partners and rivals from his days in New Japan Pro Wrestling, All-Japan Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling NOAH as well as the best of DDT. And of course among the special guests will be the opponent in Akiyama’s 1992 debut match-none other than THE GOD himself, Kenta Kobashi. And with vocal cheering by fans allowed, it promises to be a very special celebration for the founder of STERNNESS.

Today’s event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese. Kenta Kobashi will be a special guest on commentary along with Japanese voice actor Mayu Iizuka. I anticipate the event’s total running time being about 3 hours.

Today’s lineup (in order):
Yusuke Okada vs. Yuya Koroku
Yuki Iino, Danshoku Dieno, Yumehito Imanari & Koju Takeda vs. Sanshiro Takagi, Toru Owashi, Antonio Honda & Kazuki Hirata
HARASHIMA, Yukio Sakaguchi & Hideki Okatani vs. Akito, Takao Soma & Yukio Naya
Kazusada Higuchi, Yuki Ishida, Yuji Hino & Makoto Oishi vs. Daisuke Sasaki, Minoru Fujita, MJ Pawl & KANON
Yuki Ueno, MAO & Toui Kojima vs. Cara Noir, Chris Brookes & Masa Takanashi
Naomi Yoshimura vs. Takeshi Masada
Jun Akiyama 30th Anniversary Match: Jun Akiyama, Yoshinobu Kanemaru (New Japan Pro Wrestling) & Tetsuya Endo vs. Yuji Nagata (New Japan Pro Wrestling), Konosuke Takeshita & Shunma Katsumata

Refresh this page occasionally for the latest results.

Updates below will begin at 10:30 PM ET/7:30 PM PT. The stream on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will go live at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT.

10:15 PM ET UPDATE: Live updates begin now…
We are :LIVE from Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Your hosts are Haruo Murata, Kagehiro Osano & Mayu Iizuka.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. The crowd is still filing in. Due to vocal support being allowed, maximum capacity will be further reduced below what it normally has been since the pandemic began and fans were allowed to attend again. That means if it’s a legit sellout, the max attendance would probably be 700. Between weather, sumo and other events my guess will be they’ll finish right around 500.

The matches should begin in about 20-25 minutes.During GM Imabayashi’s greeting and opening announcements, upcoming title matches are announced, of note being added is DDT Universal Champion Yuki Ueno vs. Cara Noir for the title on 9/25. There also will be a Street Wrestling match on 10/10 with Toui Kojima & Shunma Katsumata vs. Yukio Naya & Yuya Koroku. On 10/12, Kazusada HIguchi & Naomi Yoshimura defend the KO-D Tag Team Championship against Daisuke Sasaki & KANON.
The final event of 2022 will be 12/29 at Tokyo Dome City Hall. A second Akiyama 30th Anniversary event will be held on 12/10 in Osaka.
The Burning faction sans Akiyama comes out for the opening shout to start the event, leading into the opening video and match lineup. Right on time (10:30 PM ET). During the opening video we see footage from last week’s Muscle events, which are now available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. This is more theater than wrestling although each had a marathon match.

Match 1: Yusuke Okada vs. Yuya Koroku. 30 minute time limit
Result: Yusuke Okada beat Yuya Koroku

Match 2: Yuki Iino, Danshoku Dieno, Yumehito Imanari & Koju Takeda vs. Sanshiro Takagi, Toru Owashi, Antonio Honda & Kazuki Hirata. 30 minute time limit
Result: No Contest. GM Imabayashi stoppage as Iino was about to fully remove this thong and go completely naked in the dark. Obviously this was a ridiculous comedy match. Oh, and Imanari’s shaved off his mustache since losing the Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Championship a few weeks ago.

Match 3: HARASHIMA, Yukio Sakaguchi & Hideki Okatani vs. Akito, Takao Soma & Yukio Naya. 30 minute time limit
Result: Akito, Takao Soma & Yukio Naya beat HARASHIMA, Yukio Sakaguchi & Hideki Okatani. Naya beat Okatani.

Match 4: Kazusada Higuchi, Yuki Ishida, Yuji Hino & Makoto Oishi vs. Daisuke Sasaki, Minoru Fujita, MJ Pawl & KANON. 30 minute time limit

Result: Cara Noir, Chris Brookes & Masa Takanashi beat Yuki Ueno, MAO & Youi Kojima. Noir beat Kojima with a rear naked choke. Afterwards, Ueno with microphone addressing Noir in English. Noir provided dramatic comedy as they promoted their DDT Universal Championship match next weekend.

Main Event: Jun Akiyama 30th Anniversary Match: Jun Akiyama, Yoshinobu Kanemaru (New Japan Pro Wrestling) & Tetsuya Endo vs. Yuji Nagata (New Japan Pro Wrestling), Konosuke Takeshita & Shunma Katsumata. 30 minute time limit
Result: Jun Akiyama, Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Tetsuya Endo beat Yuji Nagata, Konosuke Takeshita & Shunma Katsumata. Akiyama pinned Katsumata after Exploder. Akiyama addressed the crowd afterwards to end the show.

The next event is WHO’S GONNA TOP? 2022 on 9/25 at Korakuen Hall. In addition to 2 title matches (Ueno-Noir for the DDT Universal Championship and Higuchi-Takeshita for the KO-D Openweight Championship), the “Money In The Bank” title shot rights held by Shinya Aoki will be challenged for by Katsumata & Iino. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin Saturday at 10:30 PM ET/7:30 PM PT but there is a dark match scheduled so it may begin a few minutes earlier.

DDT News Dump 9/6/22

Lots of DDT Group news today:
First up, Tokyo Joshi Pro has announced the next challengers for Princess Tag Team Champions Yuki Arai & Saki Akai-Leah O’Reilly & Nightshade, both from Pro Wrestling EVE in England and both are heavyweights by women’s wrestling standards, so another literally huge test for AA Eye Candy. That match will happen at WRESTLE PRINCESS 3 on 10/9. Nightshade previously appeared in TJPW in 2019, challenging Maki Itoh for the International Princess Championship. O’Reilly spent time just before that in the Sendai Girls promotion.
A match to determine the next challenger for International Princess Champion Alex Windsor will happen on 9/16 at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo. It will be Miu Watanabe vs. Suzume. The question then is will the winner go to England for the match like Hikari Noa did, or will Windsor return to Japan? Also, Miyu Yamashita & Maki Itoh will miss the 9/16 event. Both are headed overseas again.

Now for DDT: On 9/3 in Game Changer Wrestling in the US, Joey Janela successfully defended the DDT Extreme Championship in an 8-man Two Ring Ladder Scramble F**kfest match. V2 for Janela. The event is available as a PPV on FITE but the match likely will be on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at some point in the future.
All-Japan Pro Wresting announced Yukio Naya has been added to their 50th Anniversary event on 9/18 at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. Naya is replacing Ren Ayabe, who is now off due to injury.
Ganbare Pro wrestler Takaki Iwasaki has been added to 10/15 & 10/16 in Hokkaido.
And finally, the details of LiLiCo’s insane “Full refund if boring” plan for the year-ending event at Tokyo Dome City Hall have been announced: The refund window will be up to one hour after the 12/29 event ends, with refunds provided at a special booth by DDT Vice President/wrestler Akito. Fans will have to present their ticket stub from that day and ID and fill out a questionnaire and will only get the ticket price back. If they bought seats that cane with any benefits/goods, those have to get returned too. Same for any giveaway items for WRESTLE UNIVERSE members. No refunds for 25th Anniversary Last Commemorative Seats, which will be a whopping 250,000 yen each (around $1900 US). Other seats will cost 5000-35,000 yen ($40-275 US). So if everyone that could request a refund does, they could lose maybe in the 6 digits US. Tickets go on sale September 18.

DDT 9/4/22 Results

Today’s event was held at Nagoya Congress Center in Nagoya and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese.

Your hosts are Haruo Murata & Kagehiro Osano with special guest Marika Tani of SKE48, who changed out of her Yuki Arai shirt from earlier (supporting her SKE48 teammate during the TJPW event) into a Pheromons shirt. Shameful, haha.

Intermission. Skip ahead 10-15 minutes here.

Match 6: In a Bunkhouse Scramble Exploding Blast Current Death Match, Atsushi Onita, Shinya Aoki & Yukio Naya beat Konosuke Takeshita, Shunma Katsumata & Toui Kojima. Naya pinned Kojima. Afterwards, Kojima with microphone. He wants another such match with Onita.

Match 7: Chris Brookes beat Asuka (Veny).

Main Event: KO-D Tag Team Champions Kazusada Higuchi & Naomi Yoshimura beat HARASHIMA & Toru Owashi to retain the titles. Yoshimura pinned Owashi after a lariat. V1 for the champs. Next up: Sasaki & KANON. That will happen on 10/12 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. Then Shinya Aoki teased cashing in his “Money In The Bank” open match rights (represented by an NFT collectible) on Higuchi then and there for the KO-D Openweight Championship, but ultimately did not.

The next event is the Konosuke Takeshita 10th Anniversary Event Saturday at Nishinari Community Center in Osaka. The live broadcast will be available ONLY IN JAPAN ON ABEMA. Tokyo Joshi Pro will have a 3-way tag match on the card as well.

DDT News & Updates for Nagoya-9/4/22

DDT & Tokyo Joshi Pro are running a doubleheader in Nagoya this Sunday, September 4 with mid-major shows for both. Here is a rundown of the steady stream of news coming out for each event:
First, TJPW…for the second time in the past year, all-girl J-Pop megagroup SKE48, which Yuki Arai is a member of, will have a live mini-concert during Sunday’s event. Arai will perform along with “teammates” (group members) Natsuki Kamata, Haruka Kumazaki, Nao Fukushi & Yoshiko Matsumoto. And while she is not performing, fellow teammate Marika Tani will be a guest on commentary for both the TJPW and DDT events. The performance will be part of the live broadcast on WRESTLE UNIVERSE, and you can watch on demand too but only for one month, so don’t miss it! Then after the performance Arai and Saki Akai defend the Princess Tag Team Championship against Yuki Kamifuku & Mahiro Kiryu. Arai has taken tough losses to both Kamifuku & Kiryu recently so here’s hoping her teammates can provide enough of a boost to lift AA Eye Candy to a win over the so-called Allies Of The Orient aka Special KK. (They come up with weird names for teams-take Hikari Noa & Nao Kakuta, who are known as Free WiFi)
Here is the full card for Sunday:
Yuki Aino vs. Nao Kakuta & Neko Haruna in a 3-way
Hikari Noa vs. Moka Miyamoto
Maki Itoh vs. Arisu Endo
Shoko Nakajima & Hyper Misao vs. Miyu Yamashita & Raku
Yuka Sakazaki, Mizuki & Pom Harajuku vs. Rika Tatsumi, Miu Watanabe & Suzume
Princess Tag Team Champions Yuki Arai & Saki Akai vs. Yuki Kamifuku & Mahiro Kiryu for the titles
The event will stream LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE beginning Saturday at 11:30 PM ET/8:30 PM PT. LIVE RESULTS will be posted here.

DDT runs shortly after TJPW. As noted above, Marika Tani will be a guest on commentary for this event as well.
Because it’s DDT, the previously announced Electric Current Explosion Death Match will now have weapons including an electrified barbed wire bat, block toy bat (a favorite of The37KAMINA), mine board and, now of all things, the first ever electrified explosive current bazooka. Yes, explosive current bazooka. Drop the $6.56 US for a month of WRESTLE UNIVERSE or get the new subscriber 2-week free trial for this level of ridiculousness…and Atsushi Onita too, although you never know with “Mr. Liar”. And also to hear Marika Tani likely squealing like crazy on commentary.
The full card for Sunday:
Yusuke Okada vs. Takeshi Masada
Yuki Iino & Danshoku Dieno vs. Antonio Honda & Kazuki Hirata
Akito & Shinya Ishida vs. MAO & Yuki Ishida
Tetsuya Endo, Jun Akiyama & Yuya Koroku vs. Yuki Ueno & Makoto Oishi
Chris Brookes vs. Asuka (Veny)
KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Champions Daisuke Sasaki, MJ Pawl & KANON vs. Yukio Sakaguchi, Saki Akai & Hideki Okatani for the titles
KO-D Tag Team Champions Kazusada Higuchi & Naomi Yoshimura vs. HARASHIMA & Toru Owashi for the titles
Atsushi Onita, Shinya Aoki & Yukio Naya vs. Konosuke Takeshita, Shunma Katsumata & Youi Kojima in a Bunkhouse Scramble Current Blast Death Match
The event will stream live on WRESTLE UNIVERSE Sunday at 1:30 AM PT/4:30 AM ET. So if you’re pulling an all-nighter to watch both events live there will be about a 2 hour break between the events.

DDT 8/26/22 Results

DDT ran one of their occasional wacky “beer garden pro wrestling” events today, although due to the coronavirus pandemic this was a “non-alcoholic” version.
