Injury Report: Japan Injury Roundup (Updated x3)

There have been A LOT of injuries recently across the major Japanese promotions. Here are some of the latest updates:

New Japan-Yoshinobu Kanemaru is now off the rest of the Road to DESTRUCTION Tour. Knee injury suffered earlier this week. Boltin Oleg, was was out since last weekend due to a fever and arm infection (they were related), is cleared to return.

All-Japan/GLEAT-Sayaka Unagi is out indefinitely. Left shoulder injury suffered yesterday. For All-Japan, she was to have faced Sunny tomorrow. SAKI (not Saki Akai) is the replacement. For GLEAT, she is off the 9/17 event.

Stardom-Momo Kohga, Lady C, Miyu Amasaki and Mai Sakurai all will miss some of all of the rest of the 5 STAR GP, which runs through 9/30.

UPDATE: Tokyo Joshi Pro announced Neko Haruna has multiple knee and ACL injuries and will have surgery in October. Out several months if not longer. She will appear on 10/9 but not compete.

UPDATE 2: 9/14-what is going on in TJPW? For their event Saturday they have had to blow the card up. Not one, not two, not three…but SIX wrestlers are now off-Mizuki, Yuki Kamifuku, Nao Kakuta, Mahiro Kiryu, Raku and HIMAWARI. The very vague poor physica condition for all beyond illnesses. Add Neko Haruna (knees) and that’s 7 in the last few days. They somehow still are managing 7 matches scheduled with Ryo Mizunami being a late add. As compensation, any fan in attendance can request and will be given a colored piece of paper autographed by a random wrestler.

UPDATE 3: 9/15-Something is going around TJPW as now they have announced Wakana Uehara is now off tomorrow. Fever. So that’s now 7 off tomorrow, 8 if you count Neko Haruna. That’s about 1/3 of the roster.

GLEAT 7/16/23 Results

GLEAT ran their latest G PROWRESTLING event yesterday, the first event since their anniversary event at the start of the month.

Yesterday’s event was held at Uneda Sky Building StellarHall in Osaka and will be available on demand on YouTube tomorrow morning. There was no live broadcast.

The announced paid attendance was 244.

Match 1: Minoru Tanaka, Keiichi Sato & Yuya Susumu beat Kaz Hayashi, Yu Iizuka & Jun Tonsho. Sato pinned Tonsho with a leg lock clutch hold.

Match 2: Issei Onitsuka & Yusuke Kodama beat Seiichi Ikemoto & Fire Katsumi. Kodama pinned Katsumi after Mad Splash.

Match 3: Kotaro Suzuki & Hartley Jackson beat Magnitude Kishiwada & Junjae. Suzuki pinned Junjae with La Magistral. Afterwatds, Keiicho Sato joined Black Generation International after Kaito Ishida extended an invite. Yuya Susumu also was asked to join but didn’t answer.

Match 4: Quiet Storm beat Ryuichi Kawakami. Afterwards, Storm apparently tried to leave Bulk Orchestra but was talked out of it. Then Kawakami announced he & Galeno Dep Mar will challenge G INFINITY Champions Jun & Rei Saito for the titles on 8/4.

During intermission here CIMA held a special 5 minute training session with Commissioner Masato Yoshino, a former wrestler who spent most of his career in Dragon Gate with CIMA. Yoshino was one of the fastest wrestlers ever during a career cut short by injury, able to run the ring ropes with blinding speed. Seiki Yoshioka may be the closest thing I’ve seen to Yoshino in terms of speed.

Match 5: T-Hawk & Shigehiro Irie beat Hayato Tamura & KAZMA SAKAMOTO. T-Hawk pinned SAKAMOTO after Cerberus.

Main Event: El Lindaman, Soma Watanabe & Check Shimatani beat Takanori Ito, Tetsuya Izuchi & Galeno Del Mar. Lindaman pinned Ito with a German suplex hold. Afterwards, Ishida announced he would return from injury on 8/4 and Lindaman recruited several participants in the match for a 10-man tag against a Kota Ibushi-led team on 8/4.

The next event is GLEAT Ver. MEGA on 8/4 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, their debut at the famed sumo venue. Broadcast plans TBA. The venue will probably be at 70-75% capacity as the mass/box seats that hold up to 4 people for sumo will only be used at half capacity (2 per box).

GLEAT 7/1/23 Results

After the match, Miyagi announced she will be changing her ring name among other things. That will be revealed on 8/4 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo.

Match 5: In a Loser Unit Dissolution Match, Ryuichi Kawakami, Hayato Tamura, Check Shimatani & KAZMA SAKAMOTO beat Tetsuya Iczichi, Jun Tonsho & Keiichi Sato.Tamura pinned Izuchi after Hayato Orchestra. As a result, 60seconds must disband. And yes, apparently it was a handicap match with an unfair advantage for Bulk Orchestra.

Match 6: GLEAT 2nd Anniversary Match: El Lindaman, Kento Miyahara (All-Japan) & Chihiro Hashimoto (Sendai Girls) beat Yutani, Flamita & Kotaro Suzuki. Lindaman pinned Yutani with a tiger suplex hold.

Match 8: Lidet UWF Single Bout: Maya Fukuda beat Azusa Inaba by KO.

Match 9: Lidet UWF Double Bout: Yu Iizuka & Ayato Yoshida vs. Shinya Aoki & Hikaru Sato went to a 20 minute time limit draw.

Main Event: Fujita “Jr.” Hayato beat Lidet UWF Champion Takanori Ito by ref stoppage to win the title. Hayato becomes the second Lidet UWF Champion.

The next event is G PROWRESTLING Ver. 56 on 7/16 at Umeda Sky Building Stellar Hall in Osaka. There will likely be no live broadcast.

Also not mentioned in results but announced for 8/4: Kota Ibushi participation. Yes, THAT Kota Ibushi (who hasn’t been seen since he unceremoniously left New Japan following an injury suffered in the 2021 G1 CLIMAX Finals). He has been reportedly linked to All Elite Wrestling but that hasn’t happened and seems very unlikely.
