New Japan began the Road To DESTRUCTION Tour today in Shizuoka.

Today’s event was held at Fujisan Messe in Shizuoka. There is/was no live or on demand broadcast.

Match 1: Tatsuya Matsumoto vs. Zane Jay went to a 10 minute time limit draw.

Match 2: Shoma Kato beat Masatora Yasuda.

Match 3: Dick Togo, EVIL & Don Fale beat Katsuya Murashima, Yuya Uemura & Boltin Oleg. EVIL beat Murashima with a scorpion deathlock.

Match 4: Clark Connors, OSKAR & Yuto Ice beat TAKA Michinoku, Tomoaki Honma & Taichi. OSKAR pinned TAKA after K.O.B.

New Japan returned to Chiba today for the latest Yuji Nagata Produced hometown event, BLUE JUSTICE 16, where the self-proclaimed oldest member at 57 years old would do his best today (as he does all but maybe 5 days a year on average, tomorrow sure to be one of those days he does not) to put on a memorable show for the local fans.

Main Event: Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Yuji Nagata. After the match, Nagata’s son-who has become quite the wrestler himself-presented Tanahashi with the customary flowers following his final match in the area before his retirement in January.

The next event is the Road To DESTRUCTION Tour starting Tuesday at Fujisan Messe in Shizuoka. There will be no live or on demand broadcast. The tour is only 3 events this week with only the tour-ender Saturday being available on New Japan World (Korakuen Hall), and in fact it’s mostly non-televised events this month as only 2 of the subsequent 7 events following on the annual Hokkaido tour will be broadcast before DESTRUCTION at the end of the month, which will be on New Japan World OUTSIDE JAPAN ONLY (exclusive TV Asahi broadcast in Japan). There is also a PPV Friday at Korakuen which is available for pre-order now for $21.99 US.

Injury Report: No Fireballs For A While

New Japan has announced that, while competing last week for Revolution Pro in England, Francesco Akira was injured during a match. Fractured right wrist. Out indefinitely but safe to say a few months. No further details provided.

BREAKING: G1 Winner Cashing In Early Again (Updated)

Last year after winning the New Kapan G1 CLIMAX Tournament, Zack Sabre Jr. broke with tradition by taking his guaranteed IWGP World Heavyweight Championship shot before the normal date of 1/4 at the Tokyo Dome. New Japan just revealed this year’s winner Konosuke Takeshita is following suit-he is taking his shot on 10/13 at KING OF PRO WRESTLING 2025 at Ryogoku Kokugukan in Tokyo against the champion at the time. That will be determined by Sabre’s next defense vs. Ren Narita on 9/28 at DESTRUCTION in Kobe.

UPDATE: In other 9/28 news, NEVER Openweight Champion Boltin Oleg vs. Don Fale for the title has also been announced.

New Japan wrapped up the G1 CLIMAX 35 Tournament today with the Finals.

Match 2: Satoshi Kojima & Taichi beat Katsuya Murashima & Togi Makabe. Taichi pinned Murashima after Dangerous Backdrop. Afterwards, Oskar Leube & Yuto Nakashima appeared, back from their international training excursions. They turned heel and aligned with David Finlay & Bullet Club, laying out Taichi and demanding an IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship shot. They will now be known as OSKAR & Yuto Ice going forward.

Match 3: Master Wato, Yoh & Toru Yano beat Ryusuke Taguchi, El Desperado & YOSHI-HASHI. Yoh pinned Desperado after Direct Drive.

Match 4: Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Don Fale & SANADA beat Tiger Mask, El Phantasmo & Boltin Oleg. Fale pinned TM 4 after an elbow drop.

Match 5: Yuya Uemura, Shota Umino & Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Jacob Austin Young, Callum Newman & Great-O-Khan. Uemura pinned Young with a kannuki suplex hold.

Match 6: Gedo, Taiji Ishimori, Drilla Moloney & David Finlay beat Daiki Nagai, Hiromu Takahashi, Yota Tsuji & Shingo Takagi. Moloney pinned Nagai after Drilla Killer. Afterwards, Takagi with microphone declaring war on Bullet Club (the former LIJ are now known as The Independent) and demanding Gabriel Kidd vacate the IWGP Global Championship. Kidd had to pull out of the G1 CLIMAX after one match due to injury.

Match 7: DOUKI, Sho, Yujiro Takahashi & Ren Narita beat Hartley Jackson, Kosei Fujita, Ryohei Oiwa & Zack Sabre Jr. Narita beat Jackson with Hell’s Guillorine.

Main Event: G1 CLIMAX 35 Finals: Konosuke Takeshita beat EVIL to win the tournament. Masahiro Chono was a special guest on Japanese commentary for the match. As a result, Takeshita gets a future IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match, traditionally at Tokyo Dome but not always the case. We may find out more at the traditional post-tournament presser tomorrow. He won’t be next though…that will be Nigel McGuinness, who won a 4-way in All Elite Wrestling yesterday to get the next title shot against Sabre. That match will happen at the AEW Forbidden Door PPV on 8/24 in London, England.

The next event is BLUE JUSTICE 16, the next Yuji Nagata Produced hometown event, on 9/7 at Togane Arena in Chiba. Broadcast plans TBA.

UPDATE: Kidd isn’t vacating the Global title but Takagi is getting his title shot. That match will happen at DESTRUCTION on 9/28 at Kobe World Hall in Kobe. Also official for 9/28 is IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Taichi & Tomohiro Ishii vs. OSKAR & Yuto Ice for the titles, Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Great-O-Khan, Hiromu Takahashi vs. Taiji Ishimori and Yota Tsuji vs. David Finlay.

In other news, the promotion announced the next HISTORIC X-OVER event, which features both New Japan & Stardom, will be held on 10/5 at Barley 66 LiveHouse in Guangzhou, China. Initial announced participation from the promotions is as follows: From New Japan-Zack Sabre Jr., KUSHIDA, Master Wato. Ninja Mack will participate as a freelancer. From Stardom-Starlight Kid, Saori Anou, Natsupoi, Miyu Amasaki, Natsuko Tora, Ruaka, Rina. The first matches announced today are Mack vs. Master Wato and Sabre vs. KUSHIDA. If Sabre is still IWGP World Heavyweight Champion after his next defense, which will be later this month at the Forbidden Door PPV in London, England as announced by All Elite Wrestling, it’s assumed this will be a NON-TITLE match at this time. A third match was announced which appears to be between local Chinese wrestlers.

New Japan continued the G1 CLIMAX 35 today with the final day of Block A.

Today’s event was held at G Messe Gunma in Gunma and can be watched on demand on New Japan World.

The announced paid attendance was 2051, a legit sellout.

Match 1: Taiji Ishimori & Drilla Moloney beat Daiki Nagai & Shingo Takagi. Ishimori beat Nagai with Bone Lock.
