Tokyo Joshi Pro’s biggest event of the year, GRAND PRINCESS ’25, is in the books.

Today’s event was held at Ota City General Gym in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

The announced paid attendance was 1212. That’s down from prior years when they ran the event at the much larger Ryogoku Kokugikan (at a greatly reduced capacity which probably was due to the space it provided for spacing out during the pandemic and recovery)but was probably still around half-full for the setup (the venue’s full capacity for wrestling is around 3500).

Match 1: Yoshiko Hasegawa & Mifu Ashida beat HIMAWARI & Shino Suzuki. Hasegawa pinned Suzuki after a diving double knee.

Match 2: Kakeru Sekiguchi (Independent/Freelancer), Mahiro Kiryu, Neko Haruna & Ivy Steele beat Kaya Toribami, Kira Summer, Chika Nanase & Uta Takami. Kiryu pinned Nanase after a spinebuster.

Match 3: Max The Impaler beat Moka Miyamoto.

Match 4: Aja Kong (OZ Academy), Yuki Kamifuku & Wakana Uehara beat Yuki Aino, Haru Kazashiro & Toga. Uehara beat Kazashiro with Banana Pillow.

Match 5: Raku beat SETUP All-Asia Women’s Champion Pom Harajuku to win the title. Raku becomes the 3rd SETUP All-Asia Women’s Champion. And now is headed to Thailand in the future to defend against an upcoming #1 contender match winner, meaning either Matcha (who Harajuku beat for the title) or Alexis Lee.

Match 6: Willow Nightingale (All Elite Wrestling) beat Miu Watanabe.

Match 7: Meiko Satomura beat Yuki Arai. Not the result I hoped for as a #1 Arai fanboy but the result I expected as Satomura winds down her career (she’s retiring on 4/28).

Match 8: International Princess Champion Suzume beat Arisu Endo to retain the title. V2 for Suzume.

Match 9: Shoko Nakajima & Hyper Misao beat Princess Tag Team Champions Miyu Yamashita & Maki Itoh to win the titles. Nakajima & Misao become the 18th Princess Tag Team Champions. Misao pinned Yamashita after Hypami Returns. An unmasked Misao at that.

Main Event: Princess Of Princess Champion Mizuki beat Rika Tatsumi by submission to retain the title.V1 for Mizuki. UNHAPPY UNHAPPY.

The next event is Saturday at Yokohama Radiant Hall in Yokohama to start the Spring 2025 house show tour. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin Friday at 9 PM PT/midnight ET. Also, as far as upcoming major events go, they’re not running Korakuen Hall for their usual Golden Week blowout event in early May this year so don’t be alarmed when that doesn’t happen.

Breaking news via the socials from Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling, and it’s equally sad & surprising-their popular ring announcer, Sayuri Namba, is leaving the promotion this summer. Of course they’re billing it as “graduating” (so presumably it’s either a mutual decision or expiring contract that won’t be renewed but surely she’s leaving on good terms) but no further details have been revealed yet and she hasn’t posted anything yet on social media about it. Her final TJPW event will be 6/22 at Ryogoku KFC Hall in Tokyo and a special event before that will be held on 6/14 at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring. She has been with the promotion for almost 7 years as a ring announcer and also has been an MMA ring card girl and also an actress. Also no word yet on her future plans but, nonetheless, she will be greatly missed in TJPW.

UPDATE: DDT has posted an official news item and press conference transcript and Namba has posted on social media about it. She wants to live and work overseas, not necessarily in wrestling, and is planning to relocate to Canada this summer, possibly seeking work as a Japanese language teacher and with perhaps the goal of eventually moving to the USA. The door to a return as a ring announcer or to TJPW will never be closed though, and she expressed interest in possibly returning for events outside Japan, as they have started coming to the US a couple times annually (on average).

The second event of Tokyo Joshi Pro’s doubleheader today was a regular event called THE NIGHT BEFORE GRAND PRINCESS ’25, the finale before their biggest event of the year.

Today’s event was held at Kitazawa Town Hall in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

The announced paid attendance was 215. Unlike the earlier event which was women-only, this was open to all fans.

Match 1: Pom Harajuku beat Uta Takami.

Match 2: Yuki Kamifuku & Wakana Uehara beat Kira Summer & Chika Nanase. Kamifuku beat Nanase with Fujisawa Murder.

Match 3: Miu Watanabe beat Ivy Steele.

Match 4; Suzume, HIMAWARI & Shino Suzuki beat Moka Miyamoto, Yoshiko Hasegawa & Mifu Ashida. Suzume pinned Ashida after Ring A Bell.

Match 5: Mizuki & Arisu Endo beat Haru Kazashiro & Toga. Endo pinned Kazashiro after The Tenth Law.

Match 6: Hyper Misao 10th Anniversary Match: In a handicap match, Rika Tatsumi, Yuki Aino, Raku, Mahiro Kiryu & Neko Haruna beat Hyper Misao. Afterwards, what will be the third Hyper Misao Produced event was announced for 6/27.

Main Event: Miyu Yamashita & Maki Itoh beat Kaya Toribami & Shoko Nakajima. Itoh beat Toribami with Itoh Deluxe.

The next event is GRAND PRINCESS ’25, the promotion’s biggest annual event, on 3/16 at Ota City General Gym (the first time the event has not been held at Ryogoku Kokugikan). Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin on 3/15 at 10 PM PT/1 AM ET. It was also announced that Natsume Nakayama will be a special guest on commentary for the event, much to the delight of one Miu Watanabe who is a big fan of OCHA NORMA, the J-pop idol group Nakayama belongs to (this will be her 4th appearance on commentary).

Tokyo Joshi Pro runs a house show doubleheader today in Tokyo, starting with “Go Girl 5”, their annual spring women-only event. That’s right-only female fans can attend as part of the promotion’s efforts to bring more female fans to events. The only male fans that can attend this event are preschool-age or younger. They’ll otherwise have to wait until the second event today. The first event will be a standard house show lineup with the more noteworthy stuff saved for the second event. I will be doing live results only for the first event today.
After missing a couple weeks with a shoulder injury, HIMAWARI is scheduled to return to action today.

Today’s events will be held at Kitazawa Town Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. There will be no commentary. While there’s plenty of time between start times if this first event runs long, I anticipate it only going around 2 hours.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. It’s women-only and a small setup but the venue itself is very small, I think full capacity is only about 200. We can only see 3 sides of seating from the aerial hard camera, but it’s going to be smaller than normal because of only female fans. Maybe not even 100, I’ll guess around 75. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 145)

After running a “Winter Festival West” event in Osaka recently, Tokyo Joshi Pro runs an East version today in Tokyo. It’s mostly a regular house show although the main event, an 8-woman tag match, will continue the build to GRAND PRINCESS ’25 and, in today’s case, all 3 title matches as it’s champions on one team and their respective challengers on the other.

The promotion announced 2 absences today-HIMAWARI remains out due to a shoulder injury and Mifu Ashida is out today due to schedule conflicts. (Pre-show Update: HIMAWARI will be in attendance today and will participate in post-event autograph sessions)

Today’s event will be held at Ryogoku KFC Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. You will also be able to watch the entire live broadcast FOR FREE on YouTube (but only live, no on demand archive on YouTube-only on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE). There will be no commentary. With only 6 matches and no intermission this will likely be a standard house show with a total running time of just under 2 hours.

UPDATE 2: Per SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling, it’s now official-Harajuku vs. Raku for the SETUP All-Asia Championship will happen on 3/16 at GRAND PRINCESS ’25. The winner’s next/first challenger will be determined on 3/22 at an event in Bangkok.

UPDATE 3: Said challenger after 3/22 will be Matcha or Alexis Lee.

Tokyo Joshi Pro ran a pair of events today, the first being a Sanshiro Takagi Produced Bullet Train Wrestling special event, the second being a house show in Osaka.

The first event was held on a bullet train traveling from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka station in Osaka and will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE Wednesday, possibly with Japanese commentary. There was no live broadcast. (UPDATE: There is Japanese commentary for the on demand version, the hosts are Haruo Murata & Suzume, which surprised me a little because I thought for sure they would have Raku on commentary even though she participated in the event. Raku is a noted train enthusiast)

The announced paid attendance was 75, a legit sellout.

The first leg from Tokyo to Yokohama featured the opening announcements & Up Up Girls performance, albeit with some technical difficulties.

The match began en route from Yokohama to Hamamatsu as more wrestlers began boarding. Then en route from Hamamatsu to Nagoya the “train conductor” boarded, which actually was Minoru Suzuki. Then after all that and on the way to Nagoya and Osaka…

Main Event: Miyu Yamashita, Maki Itoh, Max The Impaler & Yuki Arai beat Mizuki, Aja Kong, Miu Watanabe & Raku. Yamashita pinned Raku after Crash Rabbit Heat. The match went just short of 45 minutes.

After they arrived in Osaka, today’s second event was held at Osaka Azalea Taisho in Osaka and will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at a later date. There was no live broadcast.

The announced paid attendance was 300, a legit advance sellout.

Before the event, it was announced a Golden Week Fan Appreciation Day event in Osaka will be held on 5/5 at Osaka Prefectural Gym 2.

Match 1: Moka Miyamoto beat Chika Nanase by submission.

Match 2: Pom Harajuku beat Uta Takami & Arisu Endo in a 3-way by pinning Takami.

Tokyo Joshi Pro ran a unique outdoor event in Tokyo today, a combination of wrestling and the wrestlers doing solo music performances (not just Up Up Girls).

Today’s event was held at Hibiya Open Air Concert Hall in Tokyo and should be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at a later date. There was no live broadcast.

The announced paid attendance was 202.

There was a last-minute change to the card due to no HIMAWARI. Shoulder injury apparently suffered last week at the Korakuen Hall event. Out indefinitely including this coming weekend. She was to have teamed with Kira Summer to face Suzume & Mahiro Kiryu. That match became a 3-way instead.

The event began with several solo music performances by various wrestlers.

Match 1: Arisu Endo beat Chika Nanase by submission.

Match 2: Neko Haruna, Yoshiko Hasegawa & Kaya Toribami beat Yuki Kamifuku, Toga & Mifu Ashida. Toribami beat Ashida with Birdcage.

Match 3: Suzume beat Mahiro Kiryu & Kira Summer in a 3-way by pinning Summer.

Match 4: Mizuki & Jada Stone beat Shoko Nakajima & Haru Kazashiro. Stone pinned Kazashiro after Spark Stunner.

Main Event: Rika Tatsumi, Yuki Aino, Max The Impaler, Pom Harajuku & Wakana Uehara beat Hyper Misao, Raku, Miu Watanabe, Shino Suzuki & Uta Takami. Tatsumi beat Suzuki with a dragon sleeper. Afterwards, the entire roster came back out for one final musical performance together. Well, almost the entire roster…unfortunately, much to the dismay of fans like myself, Max did not sing even though Pom did.

The next event is Saturday at Osaka Azalea Taisho in Osaka. There will be no .live broadcast.

Tokyo Joshi Pro wrestler HIMAWARI has built herself around having long hair styled similar to WWE wrestler Bianca Belair, albeit much thinner, but doing similar hair twirling pre-match and on occasion during matches. That’s on hold for a bit as she was injured in a recent match, maybe at Korakuen Hall this past weekend. Shoulder. Out indefinitely and off tomorrow. She was to have teamed with Kira Summer to face Suzume & Mahiro Kiryu. It’s now a 3-way. While it doesn’t sound serious it’s known how long HIMAWARI may be out.

Tokyo Joshi Pro wraps up the 5th Futari-wa Princess Max Heart Tournament today, with the winners getting the next Princess Tag Team Championship shot at GRAND PRINCESS ’25 on 3/30. Who that will be against will be determined in a couple days as Miyu Yamashita & Maki Itoh are in Chile this weekend to defend the titles. The tournament has been full of upsets and unexpected results but we’ve reached the Finals and it will be the internet’s favorite women’s odd couple and my pick to win-Wasteland Pom Party aka Max The Impaler & Pom Harajuku-vs. Shoko Nakajima & Hyper Misao. If you haven’t seen the promotion’s latest promo poster online for this event go check it out because once again it’s spot-on. As long as you’re not rooting for Nakajima & Misao. There is also one title match scheduled as International Princess Champion Suzume defends the title against Jada Stone, the latest young foreign prospect with a bright future to come over and make an instant impact in Japan much like Zara Zakher and others.

In addition to Yamashita & Itoh, Moka Miyamoto is also off this event as she is also competing in Chile along with the tag champs.

Today’s event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese & English. Voice actress Hana Hishikawa will be a special guest on Japanese commentary. This will also be a live Samurai! TV broadcast in Japan. Streamers/paper tape throwing by fans is also allowed today. It’s a longer than normal card with 9 matches and no time limit for the main event, but I anticipate it being a typical Korakuen event with a running time of about 2 1/2 hours (plus they have a usual post-event gathering at a nearby venue).

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. It’s reduced capacity on the commentary side and while the crowd is still filing in it’s mostly empty so far. Advance sales seemed to be average so I’ll predict it’ll be a close to “average” Korakuen crowd of around 700. (Mid-show update, I’m revising it down to around 550, not a big looking crowd at all) (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 551. Wow, nailed the revision! Definitely disappointing attendance)

Result: Miu Watanabe beat Uta Takami. Maybe Takami’s best match so far in her rookie campaign and career.

Result: Rika Tatsumi & Toga beat Mizuki & HIMAWARI. Tatsumi pinned HIMAWARI after Twist Of Fate.

Match 8: International Princess Champion Suzume vs. Jada Stone for the title. 30 minute time limit
Result: International Princess Champion Suzume beat Jada Stone to retain the title. V1 for Suzume. Next up: Well, since she couldn’t beat Yuki Arai for the title…Endo wants another shot, this time at her longtime tag team partner. Seems like she’ll get it. I have a feeling this will happen at GRAND PRINCESS ’25.

Main Event: Max Heart Tournament Finals: Max The Impaler & Pom Harajuku vs. Shoko Nakajima & Hyper Misao. No time limit
Result: Shoko Nakajima & Hyper Misao beat Max The Impaler & Pom Harajuku to win the tournament. Nakajima pinned Harajuku after a diving senton. As a result, Nakajima & Misao will face the Princess Tag Team Champions for the titles at GRAND PRINCESS ’25.

The next event is a Sanshiro Takagi Produced Bullet Train Women’s Pro Wrestling event on 2/15 on the Nozomi Shinkansen train from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka. It will have one match, a Falls Count Anywhere match of Mizuki, Miu Watanabe, Raku & Aja Kong vs. Miyu Yamashita, Maki Itoh, Yuki Arai & Max The Impaler. There will be no live broadcast but it will be on demand at a later date with commentary.

The next actual event is after the above event that same day at Osaka Azalea Taisho in Osaka with the same match, but not Falls Count Anywhere. Jada Stone participation is also set for the event. There will be no live broadcast.

UPDATE: It’s now official-Suzume vs. Endo is set for GRAND PRINCESS ’25.

UPDATE 2: On 2/9 in Santiago, Chile, Princess Tag Team Champions Miyu Yamashita & Maki Itoh successfully defended the titles. V4 for the champs. As a result, the scheduled 3/16/25 title defense vs. Nakajima & Misao is now official.

Tokyo Joshi Pro continues the Futari-wa Princess Max Heart Tournament today with the Semifinals. It’s been a tournament full of surprises and upsets including favorites Suzume & Arisu Endo losing in Round 1 and, much to my delight, Wasteland Pom Party having no trouble getting to this point. Today they get the real surprise team of the tournament so far in Wakana Uehara & Yuki Kamifuku. On the other side, Shoko Nakajima & Hyper Misao seem to have a clear path to the Finals but they have to avoid the upset bid by HIMAWARI & Shino Suzuki today. 5 non-tournament matches make up the rest of the event.

Today’s event will be held at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. You can also watch the entire event LIVE FOR FREE on YouTube (YouTube will be live only, on demand replays will only be available on WRESTLE UNIVERSE). There will be no commentary. The tournament matches will have no time limit and there are 7 matches planned, so I anticipate this being a normal event with a running time of just over 2 hours.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. Didn’t get a crowd shot before zoom-in but advance ticket sales have me thinking it’ll be just over half-full, or 250-300. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 312)

The matches should begin in 15-20 minutes. During opening announcements a big one is made after Yuki Arai is brought out…she’s coming to the US for the first time at the WrestleMania Week event in Las Vegas! Better get my The Collective tickets now! Luckily she has plenty of time to work on her English as she had a lot of trouble trying to greet the fans in English.

Result: Raku beat Miu Watanabe & Neko Haruna in a 3-way by pinning Haruna. Comedy match which saw Raku bring out and use a pair of yellow-painted traffic cones. Full-size ones too.

Match 3: Miyu Yamashita & Mahiro Kiryu vs. Rika Tatsumi & Chika Nanase. 20 minute time limit. During her entrance Yamashita’s foot slipped as she was climbing up the steps at ringside to the ring apron. Thankfully nothing more than embarrassing and everyone laughed it off.
Result: Miyu Yamashita & Mahiro Kiryu beat Rika Tatsumi & Chika Nanase. Yamashita pinned Nanase after Skull Kick.
