DDT Pro Wrestling 4/7/24 Results (Updated)

After once again being part of “The Collective” in the US ahead of WWE WrestleMania, DDT is back in Japan for a short-turnaround event, their monthly tentpole tour beginner/ender in Tokyo-APRIL FOOL 2024. It sounds like everyone made it back safely ahead of today’s event, which has 2 title matches scheduled: First up is DDT Extreme Champion Shunma Katsumata vs. Hi69, coming over from Pro Wrestling NOAH, for the title in a “Lucky Draw! Calling for Pain Survival Kuji Great Battle!” (or something like that), which is no rope escapes or countouts, win only by pinfall or submission and various weapons will be available. In the second title match, KO-D Tag Team Champions Tetsuya Endo & Yuki Iino defend the titles against Jun Akiyama & Tomomitsu Matsunaga. The main event will feature a couple of Englanders teaming up as Zack Sabre Jr. comes over from New Japan Pro Wrestling to team with Chris Brookes against Yuki Ueno & MAO, just back from the US. Additionally, this will be the last time Hideki Okatani will be seen for a while as after today, he will be having ACL/knee surgery and will be out at least several months.

Today’s event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese. Actor Takumi Momose will be a special guest on commentary. There is now a pre-show match scheduled for 30 minutes before the event’s planned start time, so adding that in I anticipate this will be a “normal” Korakuen event with a total running time of about 3 hours. It will be going up against the last hour or two of WrestleMania Night 1 so I might be a little behind early on with updates.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. The crowd will still be filing in over the next 30+ minutes but it looks like it’s set up for their usual 1000-1100. Based on advance ticket sales they’re probably trending for in the 700s. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 1334, a super full house/very bear sellout. Unusually late arriving crowd, maybe due to WrestleMania? Night 1 ran against the first half of today’s event)

Pre-show match: Unpaid Fighter Battle Royal. Entrants are Sanshiro Takagi, Toru Owashi, Akito and a ridiculous(ly long) list of comedy characters
Result: Sayaka Unagi won. She was the last entrant and eliminated Takagi. All the other participants were comedy impersonations of wrestlers or people who probably were extras, interns, etc. Even a teenage boy was in it. Afterwards, A Takagi-Unagi match for the DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Championship currently held by Unagi was made for the future. Takagi then had all the participants come back in and crowd into and around the ring for the group photo op.

Main show:

Match 1: Yuni & Yuya Koroku vs. Illusion & Munetatsu Nakamura. 30 minute time limit
Result: Yuni & Yuya Koroku beat Illusion & Munetatsu Nakamura. Koroku beat Illusion with a cross armbar/wrist lock.

Match 2: Daisuke Sasaki, MJ Paul & KANON vs. HARASHIMA, Yoshitatsu & Takeshi Masada and Kazusada Higuchi, Yukio Naya & Hideki Okatani and Danshoku Dieno, Kazuki Hirata & Kazuma Sumi in a 4-way. 30 minute time limit. At the start, all 4 teams each were placed in a different corner of the venue and when the bell rang, they all rushed to the ring to begin the match.
Result: Kazusada Higuchi, Yukio Naya & Hideki Okatani beat Daisuke Sasaki, MJ Paul & KANON,. HARASHIMA, Yoshitatsu & Takeshi Masada and Danshoku Dieno, Kazuki Hirata & Kazuma Sumi in a 4-way when Okatani pinned Sumi.

Match 3: D GENERATIONS CUP Final: To-y vs. Rukiya. No time limit
Result: To-y beat Rukiya to win the tournament. As a result, Yo-y gets into KING OF DDT 2024. They then announce the Round 1 matches for the tournament, so To-y’s “reward” is KANON. Round 1 is 5/5 at Korakuen.

Quick break for the opening announcements. During them, it was announced that Unagi-Takagi will be on 4/26 at Sumida City Gym in Tokyo along with a KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Championship match and KO-D Openweight Champion Yuki Ueno vs. Akito for the title. UPDATE: Yuki Ishida also came out here and announced he will return on 5/16.

Match 4: Shinya Aoki vs. Chihiro Hashimoto (Sendai Girls). 15 minute time limit
Result: Time Limit Draw

Match 5: DDT Extreme Champion Shunma Katsumata vs. Hi69 (Pro Wrestling NOAH) in a Great Kuji Survival Match for the title. No rope escapes, no countouts, lucky weapons are in each corner that can be used. 1 Hour time limit

Pro Wrestling NOAH continued the SUNNY VOYAGE 2024 Tour today in Shizuoka.

Today’s event was held at Shimizu Marine Building in Shizuoka and will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at a later date. There was no live broadcast.

The announced paid attendance was 189.

Match 1: Takashi Sugiura beat Yu Owada by submission.

Match 2: Shuhei Taniguchi beat Junta Miyawaki.

Match 3: Daga & Yoshinari Ogawa beat Shuji Kondo & Hajime Ohara. Daga pinned Ohara after Diablo Wings.

Match 4: Go Shiozaki & Atsushi Kotoge beat Jake Lee & Tadasuke. Kotoge pinned Tadasuke after Bat Hanging.

Match 5: Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. & Ulka Sasaki beat Masa Kitamiya & Daiki Inaba. Wagner Jr. pinned Inaba after Serpiente Azteca.

In other news, both Ninja Mack & HAYATA were announced for this year’s Best Of The Super Junior Tournament by New Japan Pro Wrestling. It will be the first entry for both in the prestigious Junior Heavyweight showcase.

New Japan 4/6/24 Results (Updated)

SAKURA GENESIS, New Japan’s traditional April blowout event, is now in the books.

Today’s event was held at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on New Japan World OUTSIDE JAPAN ONLY. This event aired in Japan as part of WORLD PRO WRESTLING LIVE 2024 on TV Asahi.

The announced paid attendance was 6632.

Pre-show Match: Frontier Zone: Boltin Oleg, Toru Yano & Tomohiro Ishii beat Chicharito Shoko, Takuro Niki & Ayako Yoshida. Oleg pinned Shoki after Kamikaze. The losing team were from the 2AW promotion in Chiba.

Match 1: Kosei Fujita & Zack Sabre Jr. beat Ryusuke Taguchi & El Desperado. Fujita pinned Taguchi with O’Connor Bridge.

Match 2; BUSHI & Hiromu Takahashi beat Gedo & David Finlay. BUSHI pinned Gedo after Fable.

Match 6: IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Sho beat Yoh by ref stoppage to retain the title. V1 for Sho. Stoppage came in less than 90 seconds due to a Yoh injury. Shoulder. Next up: Sounds like it’s between Fujita & DOUKI.

Match 7: Shota Umino & Jon Moxley beat Jack Perry & Ren Narita. Moxley pinned Narita after Death Rider.

Match 8: Shingo Takagi beat NEVER Openweight Champion EVIL to win the title. Takagi becomes the 44th NEVER Openweight Champion. Yoshinobu Kanemaru as referee and the usual H.O.T. antics weren’t enough. Next up: Gabriel Kidd.

Main Event: IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito beat Yota Tsuji to retain the title. V2 for Naito. Next up: Moxley. Already set for 4/12 in the US, it now seems like it will be for the title.

The next event is Windy City Riot Friday at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, IL. Live streaming on New Japan World OUTSIDE JAPAN ONLY as a PPV for $19.99 will begin at 5 PM PT/8 PM ET. This will be a live TV Asahi broadcast in Japan.

In other news, the participants for Beat Of The Super Junior 31 were announced today: Sho, Yoh, Hiromu Takahashi, Ryusuke Taguchi, El Desperado, Kevin Knight, BUSHI, Titan, TJP, Francesco Akira, DOUKI, Robbie Eagles, Taiji Ishimori, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Clark Connors, Drilla Moloney, Kosei Fujita, Blake Christian, Ninja Mack, HAYATA. There will be no repeat champion this year because 2023 winner Master Wato is out due to injury.

UPDATE: It’s now official. Naito-Moxley Friday is for the title.

Tokyo Joshi Pro “GCW vs. TJPW” Results (4/6/24) (Updated)

Tokyo Joshi Pro wraps up their time at The Collective for this year today with a crossover event featuring matches against the women of Game Changer Wrestling (GCW). 6 of the 8 matches are direct crossovers while one match is a TJPW single match and a 6-woman tag match will have both sides on each team. 6 single matches are the majority of the card with 2 tag team matches. The likely main event on paper features Rina Yamashita, Masha Slamovich & Maki Itoh vs. Miyu Yamashita, Shoko Nakajima & Yuki AIno. No relation between the Yamashitas for those wondering.

As was the case earlier today/yesterday, there are some last-minute changes because Nao Kakuta is off due to illness and Sawyer Wreck is also off due to injury. Because of that, a planned tag match of Wreck & Allie Katch vs. Mizuki & Kakuta is now Allie vs. Mizuki. SAKI has also been added to the opening TJPW match to make it a 3-way.

Today’s event will be held at Penns Landing Caterers in Philadelphia, PA and can be watched LIVE on TrillerTV/FITE in English only with a Triller+ subscription ($7.99/month or $69.99/year). It will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at a later date. Due to a potential scheduling conflict I may be joining this event in progress and watching from the beginning and catching up so there may be near live results instead (if that happens I hope to be no more than 30 minutes behind). (Update: I made it home and got set up with a few minutes to spare, so proper live results) While there seemingly are no time limits the many events at the venue keeps them on a tight clock and near the end they’ll be up against the start of WWE WrestleMania so I imagine that, like several other events so far here, it will probably run just under 2 hours, which puts it up against the first half-hour of WrestleMania.

Result: Session Moth Martina beat Raku. This was a great comedy match, Martina really played along well with Raku’s “sleepy” antics and Raku even got “intoxicated” early on as Martina had a (presumably) empty beer can she brought out with her. The fans didn’t like the result but loved the match.

Like yesterday’s TJPW event, this one was a lot of fun even though of course I didn’t like some of the results (no, I’m not a Mizuki or Itoh fan). The match order changes thankfully were no big deal as everything went on as planned and the event ran a neat & tidy 2 hours (they cut away as soon as the main event ended so anything we see post-match will come via fan uploads to the socials). Another event that is definitely worth watching as both GCW and TJPW fans will find plenty to enjoy.

In TJPW news from Japan, Yuki Arai’s participation schedule for May & June was announced today, which is subject to change. Hopefully it will because, disappointingly, it’s only 2 events-the next 2 Korakuen Hall events on 5/6 (the annual Golden Week blowout event) and 6/9.

The next event is 4/13 at Kitazawa Town Hall in Tokyo, which will be the final event for Juria Nagano before she leaves TJPW and wrestling. Her final matches will be a trios match then a single match against Moka Miyamoto. The event is a legit advance sellout. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin Friday at 8:30 PM PT/11:30 PM ET with live results scheduled.

Tokyo Joshi Pro “TJPW LIVE IN PHILLY” Results (4/5/24)

Tokyo Joshi Pro is in the US again as part of “The Collective” for a morning matinee today. This is one of two events for TJPW this weekend in the US, the other being a crossover event Saturday with the women of Game Changer Wrestling. 6 matches are on tap for today including participation from semi-regular outsiders and fan favorites including Riho, VertVixen and Viva Van.

There have been last-minute changes to the event because unfortunately Max The Impaler and Nao Kakuta are now off the events. Max is off due to coronavirus, which sadly deprives us of a Wasteland Pom Party reunion as they were to have teamed with Pom Harajuku to face Mizuki & VertVixen. Aja Kong is the replacement. Kakuta did not travel from Japan due to illness. She was to have teamed with Raku to face Yuki Kamifuku & Viva Van. Trish Adora is the replacement.

Today’s event will be held at Penns Landing Caterers in Philadelphia, PA and can be watched LIVE on TrillerTV/FITE in English only with a Triller+ subscription, available for $7.99/month or $69.99/year. You also get unlimited on demand replays. It will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at a later date. Because the early start time conflicts with my work schedule and I will have to watch the live stream on my phone due to it, results/updates may be delayed at times. Despite no Sayuri Namba and the missing wrestlers who were dearly missed, this was still a fun event that showcased what TJPW is all about. If you missed it, catch a replay on Triller+ if you subscribe, otherwise it will be on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at some point. The entire event ran 110 minutes.

DDT Pro Wrestling “DDT GOES PHILADELPHIA!” Results (4/4/24)

DDT returns to the USA today as part of The Collective, a series of independent events around WrestleMania weekend put on by independent promotion Game Changer Wrestling. The event promises to be more of the incredible wrestling and ridiculous comedy that DDT is known worldwide for. 7 matches are currently scheduled for the event with one title match, as MAO defends the DDT Universal Championship against Billie Starkz in a No Rules match. Konosuke Takeshita, now in All Elite Wrestling, makes an appearance as well along with TNA & independent sensation Mike Bailey, who faces KO-D Openweight Champion Yuki Ueno in a NON-TITLE match. And the comedy will be plentiful and entertaining as Kazuki Hirata takes on the GOD of professional wrestling, the one & only Yoshihiko, in a can’t-miss epic. Get your popcorn ready!

I can’t really grade the whole event fairly due to the stream starting 10+ minutes late and thus cutting out just about all the first match. The rest was good but several matches were too short and the whole event was a little short again too, checking in at about 2 hours but that’s how it is during this event with the same one or two venues hosting numerous events every day. It was fun, generally what you’d expect from DDT, but maybe wait until they hopefully fix the replay to watch for the beginning.

Stardom 4/4/24 Results (Updated)

Stardom is in the USA today as part of “The Collective”, a series of over a dozen independent events taking place over WrestleMania weekend beginning today through Sunday, for “Stardom American Dream 2024 in the Keystone State”, a special event held before some participation in other independent events. It’s a lean card on paper thanks in part to the recent talent exodus with just 5 matches, but 2 are title matches. First up is a 3-way for the High Speed Championship with Mei Seira defending the title against Ram Kaichow and Saki Kashima, while in the likely main event, World Of Stardom Champion Maika defends the title against Meghan Bayne, making her first Stardom appearance since returning from a long excursion to the promotion in Japan last year. There’s plenty of notable outsider participation as well including All Elite Wrestling star Willow Nightingale, TNA Wrestling star Xia Brookside and NEW STRONG Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer from the CMLL promotion in Mexico among others. Former foreign wrestler Mariah May, who left Stardom last last year for AEW, also makes a return appearance.

Today’s event will be held at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA and can be watched LIVE on TrillerTV/FITE worldwide in English as a PPV for $24.99. You get the live broadcast and unlimited on demand replays with purchase. There is no Pia Stream PPV option. The event may be available on demand on Stardom World at a later date. With only 5 matches and the 2 title matches this is going to be a short event unless anything is added last-minute, and seems overpriced for an event that probably won’t go more than 2 hours.

We are LIVE from 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA. Your hosts are Veda Scott & Tom Lawlor. It sounds like we have the usual New Japan US ring announcer today. There are some minor audio issues at the start, namely I can’t seem to hear Lawlor on commentary.

The paid attendance will be announced sometime after the event. It’s a legit advance sellout so it depends on the setup, but max capacity for the venue would mean 1300, (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 976, so that means the setup reduced the capacity by about 25%).

Match 1: High Speed Champion Mei Seira vs. Ram Kaichow & Saki Kashima in a 3-way for the title. Usually these matches have a 15 minute time limit but we’ll see here.
Result: Saki Kashima beat High Speed Champion Mei Seira & Ram Kaichow in a 3-way by pinning Seira to win the title. Kashima becomes the 25th High Speed Champion. Mostly a comedy match. Kaichow thought she won after using a powder attack following a ref bump but it allows Kahsima to roll up Seira for 3 instead. Rather short match although that’s slightly the point of these matches.

Match 2: Stephanie Vaquer, Momo Watanabe & Starlight Kid vs. AZM, Saya Kamitani & Camron Branae
Result: Stephanie Vaquer, Momo Watanabe & Starlight Kid beat AZM, Saya Kamitani & Camron Branae. Vaquer pinned Branae after Death Valley Driver. Afterwards, Vaquer headbutted Watanabe as things got heated between them. They face off on 4/12 in New Japan for the STRONG Women’s Championship.

Match 3: Syuri & Konami vs. Willow Nightingale (All Elite Wrestling) & SAKI
Result: Willow Nightingale & SAKI beat Syuri & Konami. Nightingale pinned Konami after Babe With The Powerbomb.

Match 4: Mayu Iwatani, Tam Nakano & Momo Kohgo vs. Mina Shirakawa, Mariah May (All Elite Wrestling) & Xia Brookside (TNA Wrestling). The latter team out first, Shirakawa with microphone to introduce her teammates instead of the regular announcer. May did the honors for Shirakawa.
Result: Mayu Iwatani, Tam Nakano & Momo Kohgo beat Mina Shirakawa, Mariah May & Xia Brookside. Nakano pinned Brookside with Twilight Dream. This was definitely the fanservice match for all the male fans. Post-match, as Club Venus posed in the ring for fans…Toni Storm!?! The AEW Women’s Champion came out, minus black & white old-school filter and Luther. Storm rose up the ranks in Stardom before going to WWE. Storm with microphone. Hard to hear what she was saying on the stream though (had to turn the volume up to deafening). She said she was here to put Stardom over and thank them for the opportunities the promotion gave her. She then put May over and gave her a flower bouquet as the crowd chanted for Shirakawa. This caused Storm to go a little more in-character as she reminded them The Forbidden Door is always open. Shirakawa accepted as she & Storm stared down, Storm shoving the AEW Women’s Championship belt in Shirakawa’s face as May broke it up.
That was a really fun surprise, moreso with Storm in her AEW persona (annoying and I’m not a fan of it but she continues to make it work very well). Let’s see if anything comes out of it, perhaps sometime in June…

Main Event: World Of Stardom Champion Maika vs. Meghan Bayne for the title. Usually these matches have a 30 minute time limit (In-match note: They seemed to have FINALLY fixed Lawlor’s microphone/headset, now I can clearly hear him for the first time all event)
Result: World Of Stardom Champion Maika beat Meghan Bayne to retain the title. V3 for Maika.
Bayne had it won at one point but it was a 2.99999999999. Very physical match. The former partners hugged it out afterwards. As it seemed to start winding down, Momo Watanabe came out. With microphone. Challenge issued in Japanese. As Watanabe went to leave, she suddenly came back with a baseball bat shot but Bayne stepped in front of Maika and Watanabe hit the brakes, then walked off. Maika with microphone. Challenge accepted. That match apparently will happen on 4/27 in Yokohama. Maika then spoke in English to lead a “We Are Stardom” chant to send the crowd home happy.

My complaints about this event are all on the technical/production side as for 98% of the event I couldn’t hear Lawlor on commentary, and often the venue/production audio drowned out commentary and the microphone in ring was hard to hear. Could barely hear the announcer too. The matches were solid but with only 5 matches and the event running only about 100 minutes, it did not justify the $25 price tag. $15 would have been better, maybe $20 tops, but $25 was too much for too little. Hopefully it hits Stardom World soon, wait until it does to watch. I did enjoy the event but I felt I paid too much and got too little. The matches were all good to great though, all are worth watching.

Some of them will be sticking around for other events as part of The Collective as well as meet-and-greets at WrestleCon before returning to Japan next week.

The next event is 4/12 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, which will be the final Stardom event for Giulia & Utami Hayashishita. Broadcast plans TBA but I would not be surprised if they make it a PPV via Pia Stream.

Injury Report: Wasteland Pom Party Cancelled (Updated x2)

Unfortunately the relentless injury/illness bug has followed Japan to “The Collective” in Philadelphia and it’s resulted in very disappointing news for Tokyo Joshi Pro fans-Max The Impaler has announced they are off the weekend’s events and that includes tomorrow’s Tokyo Joshi Pro event. Coronavirus. Max was to have teamed with Pom Harajuku to face Mizuki & VertVixen. Replacement TBA. Max has apologized to the fans on Twitter and asked them to “PLEASE TAKE CARE OF MAX’S POM”, and understandably is very sad that there will be no reunion of the very popular Wasteland Pom Party tomorrow.

More as it becomes available.

UPDATE: Nao Kakuta is now off both events as well. Illness. Did not travel to the US. Updates to come.

UPDATE 2 Aja Kong is the replacement for Max The Impaler. Trish Adora is the replacement for Kakuta and will team with Raku wi face Yuki Kamifuku & Viva Van.

AEW Dynamite 4/3/24 Results

Chris Jericho calls out Hook. Hook says he got them a match for Saturday on Collision. A subsequent promo reveals it’ll be against Shane Taylor & Lee Moriarty.

Match 3: Jay White vs. Billy Gunn
Result: Billy Gunn beat Jay White by DQ. Low blow.

Willow Nightingale interviewed. Stokely Hathaway adds on but gets cut off by Mercedes Mone, who says she’s challenging whoever is AEW TBS Champion after Dynasty for the title at Double Or Nothing.

Match 4: AEW Tag Team Championship Tournament Semifinals: The Young Bucks vs. Best Friends
Result: The Young Bucks beat Best Friends. Nick Jackson pinned Trent Beretta. As a result, The Bucks will face either FTR or Top Flight for the titles at Dynasty. FTR-Top Flight is Saturday. Afterwards, Best Friends went for the group hug with Chuck Taylor but Beretta instead laid out Orange Cassidy with a running knee strike.

Match 5: Mariah May vs. Thunder Rosa
Result: Thunder Rosa beat Mariah May. As a result, Rosa will face AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm for the title at Dynasty on 4/21.

Next week: AEW TNT Champion Adam Copeland vs. Penta El Zero M for the title.

Saturday on a TAPED Collision at 11:30 PM ET/8:30 PM PT or after NCAA Basketball (whichever is later): Penta vs. Komander.

Samoa Joe-Swerve Strickland Dynasty contract signing is the main event segment. Devolved into the usual violence with Joe beating down Strickland into nothingness but Strickland came back to taunt Joe before signing the contract with his own blood, then Joe put Strickland through a table after a low blow to end it.

I didn’t care much for tonight’s lineup and the card on paper was nowhere near huge. The first 2 matches were good though.
