Injury Report: DDT Just Keeps Getting DDT’d

DDT is just having horrible luck with injuries the last few months. That continues today and it’s a major one-Chris Brookes is now out. Abdominal pain that turned out to be a tumor. Surgery to happen ASAP. Out several weeks. This means he is out of his final D KING GP Block B match Sunday and Rei Saito gets a win by forfeit. Saito will now face Hideki Okatani instead and will wait for the MAO-Yukio Naya result to determine who wins Block B.

AEW Dynamite 12/20/23 Results (Updated)

Here are the quick results from tonight’s “Holiday Bash” AEW Dynamite from Oklahoma City, OK:

Match 1: Continental Classic Gold Block: Swerve Strickland vs. Rush. Strickland advances to Semifinals with win. Rush must win and Jon Moxley must lose
Result: Swerve Strickland beat Rush
Strickland is 4-1, 12 points. Rush is 3-2, 6 points. That means if Moxley loses tonight, there is a 3-way tie for 1st and we may need a tiebreaker match (Moxley beat Strickland but would have lost to White, Strickland beat White but lost to Moxley)

Match 2: Continental Classic Gold Block: Mark Briscoe vs. Jay Lethal. Both eliminated from contention already
Result: Mark Briscoe beat Jay Lethal
Briscoe is 1-4, 3 points. Lethal is 0-5, 0 points.

MJF & Samoa Joe in the ring. The Devil’s masked men hit the ring but get fought off then The Devil appears on the screen with a challenge for the ROH World Tag Team Championship next week. MJF & Joe accept.

Toni Storm joins commentary for the next match.

Match 3: Saraya vs. Riho. The winner faces Storm for the AEW Women’s Championship on 12/30
Result: Riho beat Saraya. As a result, it’s Storm vs. Riho on 12/30 for the title. Riho laid out Storm before Mariah May laid out Riho.

Storm’s exit was interrupted by Tony Schiavone reading a prepared statement from Christian Cage, who claims he’ll be back on Collision.

MJF & Samoa Joe argue backstage then split up before MJF sees a ski mask on the ground in front of Mogul Embassy’s locker room. When Prince Nana answers MJF physically threatens him, leading to a confrontation with Swerve Strickland. MJF goes so far to suggest Strickland is The Devil and framed Adam Page as The Devil to get to MJF before Joe breaks it up.

Match 4: Roderick Strong vs. Komander
Result: Roderick Strong beat Komander

Saturday on Collision: Thunder Rosa & Abadon vs. Julia Hart & Skye Blue, Brian Cage vs. Keith Lee, Chrsitian Cage appears, AEW Trios Champions The Acclaimed vs. Top Flight & Action Andretti for the titles, and the last Continental Classic Blue Block matches: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Bryan Danielson, Brody King vs. Daniel Garcia and Andrade El Idolo vs. Eddie Kingston.

Jim Ross returns to join commentary for the main event.

Main Event: Continental Classic Gold Block: Jay White vs. Jon Moxley. Moxley has advanced. White must win to force a 3-way tiebreaker
Result: Jay White beat Jon Moxley
Both are 4-1, 12 points. As a result, because of tiebreakers, the Gold Block Final next week will be a 3-way between Moxley, Strickland and White.

Like each of the last 4 weeks with the tournament, not a great show but a good 2 hours. My only real complaint was there were technical issues with the broadcast cutting out or freezing at the start of each match except the main event. Otherwise it was another solid Dynamite, not as good as the first 2 weeks of the tournament but not off by very much.

Friday on Rampage: AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy vs. Rocky Romero for the title. Everything else TBA.

UPDATE: El Hijo Del Vikingo vs. Black Taurus may also be another match for Rampage.

All-Japan News: Popular Foreign Star Returning

In a post on his official Instagram earlier today, Davey Boy Smith Jr., the son of the late WWF Hall Of Famer The British Bulldog, announced he will be returning to All-Japan on 12/31 for the first time in several years. He was planned to be part of the 2020 Champions Carnival Tournament but the pandemic derailed those plans, then his father’s WWE HOF induction was postponed to 0221, and more recently he had emergency surgery for appendicitis and diverticulitis. But Smith has fully recovered and is excited to return on 12/31 for a 6-man tag.
