AEW/NJPW “Forbidden Door 2024” Results (6/30/24)

Here are the quick results from today’s All Elite Wrestling/New Japan Pro Wrestling “Forbidden Door” PPV in Elmont, NY (Long Island):

Pre-show (FREE on YouTube):
Kyle Fletcher beat Serpentico.

Malakai Black & Brody King beat Tomohiro Ishii & Kyle O’Reilly, Isaiah Kassidy & Marq Quen and Roderick Strong & Gabriel Kidd in a 4-way when King pinned Kassidy.

Willow Nightingale & Tam Nakano beat Kris Statlander & Momo Watanabe. Nakano pinned Watanabe with a straighjacket German suplex.

Owen Hart Cup Women’s Quarterfinals: Mariah May beat Saraya. As a result, May advances to the Semifinals and will face Hikaru Shida.

Lucha Bros & Mistico beat Titan, Hiromu Takahashi & Yota Tsuji. Mistico beat Titan with La Mistica. This is leading to rumors Lucha Bros are officially done with AAA because that promotion would never let their wrestlers team with CMLL wrestlers (both are promotions in Mexico).

PPV (on cable/satellite providers, Bleacher Report & Triller/FITE in US, various providers internationally and as a PPV on New Japan World in Japan only):
MJF beat Hechicero.

The Young Bucks & Kazuchika Okada beat The Acclaimed & Hiroshi Tanahashi. Okada pinned Tanahashi after Rainmaker.

Owen Hart Cup Men’s Quarterfinals: Bryan Danielson beat Shingo Takagi by submission. As a result, Danielson advances to the Semifinals.

AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm beat Mina Shirakawa to retain the title. Afterwards, Mariah May had to choose between them. She chose…to have them kiss and make up. HLAEW.

Zack Sabre Jr. beat Orange Cassidy.

Samoa Joe, Hook & Katsuyori Shibata beat Chris Jericho, Big Bill & Jeff Cobb. Hook pinned Jericho after Judas Effect.

In a Ladder Match, Jack Perry beat Konosuke Takeshita, Mark Briscoe, Dante Martin, Lio Rush & El Phantasmo to become THE NEW AEW TNT CHAMPION!

AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone beat NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer to retain the TBS title and win the STRONG title. Mone becomes the 4th STRONG Women’s Champion. Post-match, Britt Baker returned from a long hiatus.

New Japan’s annual Tokyo Dome event next year will be the traditional 1/4 event then a second day on 1/5 with New Japan, AEW, Stardom and CMLL participation. 1/5 will be called WRESTLE DYNASTY.

Tetsuya Naito beat IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley to win the title. Naito becomes the 10th IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Second 2-time champion, Okada was the first.

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland beat Will Ospreay to retain the title.

End Show.

AEW Dynamite 6/26/24 Results

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Buffalo, NY (this is the final Dynamite recap I am doing for the time being):
MJF promo. Daniel Garcia interrupted immediately. Eventually Will Ospreay barged in too.

Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi (New Japan) & Titan (CMLL) beat Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta by DQ. Moxley DQ’d. Chair use. Post-match brawl brought out Tetsuya Naito, who brawled with Moxley to the back.

Owen Hart Cup Men’s Quarterfinals: Jay White beat Rey Fenix. As a result, White advances to the Semifinals and will face the Jeff Jarrett-Wild Card winner.

The Young Bucks announced the Wild Card member will be someone from The Elite. (Early thinking is this means Adam Page)

The Acclaimed segment. The Elite interrupted. This led to The Elite vs. The Acclaimed & Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door.

Mariah May, Mina Shirakwaw (Stardom) & Toni Storm beat Saraya, Harley Cameron & Anna Jay. Shirakawa pinned Cameron after Glamorous Driver Mina. Shirakawa tried to hit Storm with a champagne bottle post-match but Storm ducked and May got hit instead.

Mercedes Mone promo. She talked like she would be on commentary for a Stephanie Vaquer-Lady Frost match Saturday on Collision. (Note: As of this posting that episode of Collision is being taped)

Chris Jericho promo. He said he recruited Minoru Suzuki to be a trios partner for Forbidden Door (Bryan Keith is out) but in a video package Suzuki said no. Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata & Hook them came out and a brief brawl ensued.

Zack Sabre Jr. (New Japan) beat Kyle O’Reilly.

Swerve Strickland & Will Ospreay beat Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona. Ospreay pinned Liona after Hidden Blade. Afterwards, Strickland laid out Ospreay.

No Rampage taping this week. This Friday’s episode was taped last week in Allentown, PA.

This week’s Collision will be TAPED. They are taping that right now.

Here are the quick results for tomorrow’s TAPED AEW Collision and for NEXT WEEK’S (6/28) AEW Rampage from Allentown, PA (SPOILERS! Rampage was taped last night because Wednesday they will tape next week’s Collision after the live Dynamite due to the Forbidden Door PPV next Sunday):

Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Reilly, Orange Cassidy & Dante Martin beat Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, Roderick Strong & Zack Sabre Jr. Cassidy pinned Strong after Orange Punch.

The Acclaimed beat AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks in a NON-TITLE match. But since this was that Eliminator gimmick, and it’s perhaps the first time the champs were beaten in one, as a result The Acclaimed get a future AEW Tag Team Title shot.

Toni Storm-Mina Shirakawa contract signing for Forbidden Door. Afterwards, Saraya, Harley Cameron & Anna Jay came out for a brawl.

Owen Hart Cup Women’s Quarterfinals: Kris Statlander beat Nyla Rose. As a result, Statlander advances to the Semifinals and will likely face the Willow Nightingale-Serena Deeb winner.

Daniel Garcia beat Rhett Titus. Squash.

Owen Hart Cup Men’s Quarterfinals: Pac beat Claudio Castagnoli. As a result, Pac advances to the Semifinals and will face the Bryan Danielson-Shingo Takagi winner.

Friday on Rampage: Private Party vs. Komander & Metalik, Shingo Takagi vs. AR Fox, Nightingale-Deeb in the Owen Hart Cup Quarterfinals and Lio Rush vs. Action Andretti in an AEW TNT Championship Ladder Match Qualifier.

Saturday on a TAPED Collision in Allentown, PA (to be taped tomorrow): AEW International Champion Will Ospreay vs. Brian Cage for the title, AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada vs. Ultimo Guerrero in a NON-TITLE match (Eliminator), Samoa Joe/Hook/Katsuyori Shibata vs. Premier Athletes and Private Party vs. Big Bill & Chris Jericho. They may also tape next week’s Rampage tomorrow. No word on why Collision isn’t live this week as there are no sports conflicts (NBA is done, NHL Finals Fame 6 is Friday, no soccer on TNT). The next live Collision probably will be July 6.

Next week: Swerve Strickland & Will Ospreay vs. Toa Liona & Bishop Kaun, Toni Storm/Mariah May/Mina Shirakawa vs. Saraya/Harley Cameron/Anna Jay and Jay White vs. Rey Fenix in an Owen Hart Cup Quarterfinals match. Next week’s Collision is also TAPED (will be taped after Dynamite), probably because the following weekend is Forbidden Door.

Trent Beretta joined the heel beatdown afterwards, Willow Nightingale tried to make the save but was dragged out of the tunnel by Kris Statlander instead.

New Japan video package. Looks like Shingo Takagi is in the Owen Hart Cup this year (DA DA DAAAAA!).

Samoa Joe & Hook beat Tony Nese &Ari Daivari. Double submission.

Next week: MJF vs. Rush (opening match with no commercials) and AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks vs. The Acclaimed in a NON-TITLE match with the usual Eliminator gimmick.

Injury Report: Top Guys, Out

Wrestlers are tough. Maybe too tough for their own good, often competing through injuries and risking worse. AEW’s Dax Harwood did just that, and even worse he didn’t tell them until it blew up recently after working through it for 2 months, so now half of FTR is out. Lower back. Out indefinitely. Happened during a piledriver spot on April 21 and aggravated it last Saturday causing a hematoma the size of a football. Yeah, that’s bad. Had he not gotten it taken care of he was risking forced retirement. He apologized for keeping it a secret and now we wait to see how long it’s Top Guys, Out.

(In case you’re wondering about Cash Wheeler recently, namely potential legal troubles, he’s good. Reported assault with deadly weapon charges in North Carolina were dropped)
