AEW Collision 6/24/23 Results

Below are the LIVE quick results from tonight’s AEW Collision in Toronto, Canada:

Updates below will begin at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.

The show opens with what was supposed to be Darby Allin & Sting announcing their partner for a 6-man tag against Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara & Minoru Suzuki Sunday but Jericho & Suzuki quickly come out instead. Allin & Sting come out after Jericho threatens Tony Schiavone (cue Schiavone having his usual Stingasm). Allin reveals their partner is New Japan’s Tetsuya Naito.

Miro promo.

Match 1: Swerve Strickland vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi (New Japan)
Result: Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Swerve Strickland

Match 2: Brody King vs. Andrade El Idolo
Result: Andrade El Idolo beat Brody King by DQ. Buddy Matthews interference when Andrade had King in the Figure 4.

Christian Cage interviewed.

Owen Hart Cup Men’s Tournament promo. The tournament begins tomorrow at Forbidden Door with CM Punk-Satoshi Kojima. The other quarterfinals matches are next week on Collision.

Match 3: Owen Hart Cup Women’s Tournament Quarterfinals: Willow Nightingale vs. Nyla Rose
Result: Willow Nightingale beat Nyla Rose. As a result, Nightingale advances to the Semifinals and will face Athena or Billie Starkz. That match is tomorrow at Forbidden Door on the pre-show. After the match, The Outcasts (including Saraya after being away a week or so) surrounded the ring but Skye Blue came out to scare them off.

Scorpio Sky interviewed backstage.

Match 4: Powerhouse Hobbs vs. a jobber. The jobber is Jeremy Prophet
Result: Powerhouse Hobbs beat Jeremy Prophet. Squash.

Forbidden Door card final rundown. It sounds like MJF-Hiroshi Tanahashi for the AEW World Championship will be the first match at MJF’s demand. The main event will likely be either Bryan Danielson vs. Kazuchika Okada or IWGP US Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay for the title.

Main Event: CM Punk, Ricky Starks & FTR vs. Jay White, Juice Robinson & Gunn Club. Very heavy boos for Punk during his entrance even though some fans do sing his entrance music, but overwhelmingly negative fan reaction. As commentary noted, We’re Not In Chicago Anymore! HAHAHA!
Result: Jay White, Juice Robinson & Gunn Club beat CM Punk, Ricky Starks & FTR. White pinned Starks after Bladerunner.

End Show.

Next week: MJF vs. TBA and the rest of the Owen Hart Cup Tournament Men’s Quarterfinals: Roderick Strong vs. Samoa Joe, Dustin Rhodes vs. Powerhouse Hobbs, Juice Robinson vs. Ricky Starks. Next week’s episode will be TAPED on Thursday.

AEW News: Popular Jobber Moving On

In a video clip posted to Twitter today, AEW wrestler Fuego De Sol announced he is finished with the promotion and will become a free agent. No word on specific details but he apparently had been injured for some time and is now cleared to return, so my thinking is this is an expiring contract and Fuego is moving on, and likely is not on bad terms with Tony Khan.

Fuego had been a long-tome jobber/enhancement talent in AEW, earning a contract after a standout performance on the premiere episode of AEW Rampage. He lost in a high-stakes match but was awarded a contract in a surprise spot with help from Sammy Guevara. He did win a few matches along the way in AEW too. His profile page has been removed from AEW’s website and Fuego said he will be accepting bookings starting July 1. That being said, he does have an independent match against fellow AEW wrestler Matt Sydal tomorrow in the Dallas, TX area, but this probably was planned or cleared beforehand even though Sydal made the challenge in a reply to Fuego’s post.

You can view the clip in the Twitter post below:

AEW Dynamite 6/21/23 Results

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Chicago, IL:

Gunn Club beat The Hardys. Colten Gunn beat Jeff Hardy after 3:10 to Yuma. Juice Robinson interference set up the upset. CM Punk showed up unannounced after the match. He’ll be at Collision Saturday.

Mark Briscoe beat Jeff Jarrett in a Concession Stand Brawl. A street fight that started at a concession stand setup. Garbage comedy match.

Sammy Guevara, Chris Jericho & Minoru Suzuki beat Action Andretti, Darius Martin & AR Fox. Jericho beat Fox with Liontamer/Walls Of Jericho. Missed the first part of this match with streaming issues.

What was supposed to be a Blind Tag Tournament was changed earlier today to just a draw for the 8-team tournament. Brackets announced next week but we do know the first team…Adam Cole and MJF.

Daniel Garcia & Zack Sabre Jr. beat Orange Cassidy & Katsuyori Shibata. Missed finish due to streaming issues.

AEW TBS Champion Kris Statlander beat Taya Valkyrie to retain the title.

In the Main Event segment, Eddie Kingston announced the 5th member of the 10-man tag Sunday with The Young Bucks & Adam Page vs. BCC is Tomohiro Ishii. This led to Bryan Danielson calling out Kazuchika Okada, who came out. After a Wheeler Yuta cheap shot, they set up a Busaiku Knee but Okada dodged and Danielson hit Yuta. Dnaielson bailed and left Yuta to take Rainmaker to end the show.

I had a lot of unusual streaming issues tonight so I missed quite a bit of important spots (I watch via the TBS app because I am on the west coast). From what I did saw, it felt meh for a PPV go home show.

Friday on Rampage (what I caught): Jungle Boy vs. DOUKI, Rocky Romero & Best Friends vs. United Empire & Swerve Strickland, The Acclaimed vs. TBA, Anna Jay.A.S. vs, Skye Blue in the Owen Hart Cup Women’s Tournament, MJF Appears for the first time EVER on Rampage and Adam Cole appears.

Saturday on Collision in Toronto, Canada: CM Punk, FTR and maybe someone else vs. Bullet Club Gold, Swerve Strickland vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Brody King vs. Andrade El Idolo, Nyla Rose vs. Willow Nightingale in the Owen Hart Cup Women’s Tournament, Christian Cage appears and Sting & Darby Allin reveal their Forbidden Door tag team partner for their match vs. Jericho/Guevara/Suzuki.

Injury Report: No Bandido Spree Anytime Soon

According to reports from US news sites, which now has been confirmed by GLEAT because it affects their 7/1 event, All Elite Wrestling/Ring Of Honor star Bandido has seen his high-flying spree come to an end for now. Triangular fibrocartillage complex injury aka broken wrist. X-rays Bandido posted on Instagram show it appears to be where the wrist connects to the hand near the pinky finger. Out indefinitely and may need surgery, but he is now off GLEAT’s 7/1 TDC Hall event. The injury happened Wednesday during the AEW Rampage taping after AEW Dynamite in his match against Konosuke Takeshita. It’s not known how long he will be out but he should know more later today.

More as it becomes available.

AEW Dynamite 6/14/23 Results

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Washington, DC:

AEW World Champion MJF vs. Adam Cole in a NON-TITLE match (aka Eliminator) went to a 30 minute time limit draw. Cole would’ve gotten a rematch for the title had he won. Perfect heel wrestling by MJF. Must-see.

Sammy Guevara interviewed. He announces when he & Tay Melo have their first baby later this year or early next year it will be a girl. Then he shifts to other priorities, which leads to Darby Allin & Chris Jericho getting involved. This all leads to potentially Guevara & Jericho vs. Allin & Sting next week.

IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA (New Japan) appears in a pre-taped promo in Japanese. Open Challenge for the title at Forbidden Door.

Gunn Club interviewed. They want The Hardys next week.

AEW TNT Champion Wardlow beat Jake Hager to retain the title. Christian Cage & Luchasaurus seen backstage afterwards with a bloody & beaten Arn Anderson. Wardlow-Luchasaurus for the title will happen at Collision Saturday.

Hiroshi Tanahashi (New Japan) pre-taped promo in Japanese. Challenge issued to MJF for Forbidden Door.

AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm beat Skye Blue by submission to retain the title. Ruby Soho seconded Storm. No Saraya. Likely just heel acting by Saraya.

Jungle Boy accepts SANADA’s open challenge.

The Elite (The Young Bucks & Adam Page) beat Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta). Page pinned Yuta after Buckshot Lariat. After the match things got crazy including the return of Eddie Kingston, Konosuke Takeshita getting involved then, Kenny Omega laying out Takeshita and finally Will Ospreay appearing and laying out Omega with Stormbreaker, then adding Hidden Blade as Dynamite went off the air.

Another very good show with excellent Forbidden Door build throughout. MJF-Cole was an A+ match and a definite must-see just for the Masters’ Class on champion heel wrestling by MJF.

Friday on Rampage, presumably at regular time: Will Ospreay vs. TBA. Nothing else announced on TV, perhaps due to time constraints. If there were announcements I missed them.

Added to the Collision premiere Saturday: AEW TNT Champion Wardlow vs. Luchasaurus for the title, Willow Nightingale & Skye Blue vs. Toni Storm & Ruby Soho, Buddy Matthews vs. Andrade El Idolo, Miro vs. TBA.

Confirmed for Forbidden Door: AEW World Champion MJF vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi for the title, and IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA vs. Jungle Boy for the title, joining the already-announced Bryan Danielson vs. Kazuchika Okada and IWGP US Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay for the title.
