DDT’s English Twitter has passed along some very sad news-Maon Kurosaki, a Japanese singer who just appeared at two December events as a guest on Japanese commentary on WRESTLE UNIVERSE, has died. She was only 35. According to the Anime News Network website (which has seemingly crashed due to heavy traffic but the story was shared elsewhere including Reddit), the cause of death was a worsening of a chronic illness (epidural hematoma-bleeding between the skull and membrane surrounding the brain). She died suddenly on February 16.
I join DDT and all of her fans in sending my deepest condolences and prayers to Kurosaki’s family and fans in this very sad and tragic time.
DDT wraps up February with their monthly major event today, which will go a long way towards setting up the likely main event for the marathon 26th Anniversary event next month. We already know KO-D Openweight Champion Yuji Hino will defend the title next month, but today we’ll find out if it’s against the legend HARASHIMA of the young rising Yukio Naya, who also is Hino’s partner in the (Omega) faction. There are also 2 title matches with the KO-D Tag Team Championship and 6-Man Tag Team Championship on the line, plus the D Generations Cup wraps up with either Yuya Koroku or Takeshi Masada going to the US next month as a prize for winning the tournament. And all the usual stuff that makes it DDT.
Today’s event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese. You can also watch all but the last 2 matches FOR FREE on YouTube. There will be 2 pre-show matches included as part of the broadcasts starting 30 minutes before scheduled event time. DDT held another of their special one-match events today, this one in a most unlikely place-a burlesque club. As a male I’d be all for such, more given I love Japanese girls, although this is yet another “only DDT” wacky idea.
