Dtagon Gate kicked off the annual KING OF GATE Tournament today, which will determine the top singles wrestler in the promotion. The tournament is round-robin format with 3 blocks of 6 participants
Today’s event was held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on DRAGONGATE NETWORK. This event also aired live on GAORA TV in Japan.
The paid attendance has not yet been announced. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 1421, a full house/near sellout)
There were last minute changes to the card because Naruki Doi was removed due to injury (meniscus).
Match 1: Kateika Dragon, U-T & El Pantera Jr. beat JACKY KAMEI, Riiiita & Ryoya Tanaka. Dragon pinned Tanaka after a moonsault press.
Match 2: Shuji Kondo & Punch Tominaga beat Toru Owashi (DDT) & Daiki Yanagiuchi. Kondo pinned Yanagiuchi after a King Kong lariat.
Match 3: Kota Minoura, Jason Lee, KAI & Homare beat Ultimo Dragon, Genki Horigichi, Kagetora & Akihiro Sahara. Minoura pinned Sahara after Golden Rose.
Match 4: KING OF GATE Block A: Flamita beat Dragon Kid.
Match 5: KING OF GATE Block A: Mochizuki Junior vs. ISHIN went to a 20 minute time limit draw.
Match 6: Kzy, Luis Mante, Ben-K & Strong Machine J beat Susumu Yokosuka, BIGBOSS Shimizu, Hyo & Madoka Kikuta. Ben-K pinned Hyo after a spear.
Match 7: KING OF GATE Block B: Masaaki Mochizuki beat Shun Skywalker.
Main Event: KING OF GATE Block C: Dragon Dia beat YAMATO.
The next event is Saturday at Matsuyama City Community Center in Ehime. There will be no live or on demand broadcast. In fact, there are no more broadcasts scheduled until the end of the month (3 weeks out). Right now the next broadcast is scheduled for 11/27 for Heroic Legend Rei-ZERO 4 at Shinjuku Face.
