BREAKING: DDT Title Vacated

DDT has announced that the KO-D Tag Team Championship is now VACANT. Previous champions Kazusada Higuchi & Naomi Yoshimura have been forced to vacate the titles because Yoshimura was injured during his match on 11/18. Herniated disc in his neck. Out indefinitely but at least a few months. No word yet on plans for crowning new champions.

More as it becomes available.

BREAKING: Konosuke Takeshita Signs With AEW

All Elite Wrestling just announced that DDT star Konosuke Takeshita has signed with AEW. The deal became official just before last night’s AEW Rampage. Nothing yet from DDT and his future there is uncertain but I imagine Takeshita will still compete in Japan from time to time. He will make a brief appearance tonight on the Full Gear PPV pre-show on YouTube.

DDT 11/18/22 Results

DDT ran the penultimate event of the D KING GP 2022 today, which would set up the Finals but also had the potential to require additional tiebreaker matches pending the outcomes of today’s matches.

Today’s event was held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

The announced paid attendance was 450. Vocal cheering was allowed so with further capacity limits this was about 65% full.

Match 1: Pre-show match: Yusuke Okada beat Yuki Ishida.

Match 2: Pre-show match: In a handicap match, Yuki Iino, Yumehito Imanari & Koju Takeda beat Akito, Masa Takanashi, Antonio Honda & Gorgeous Matsuno. Iino beat Honda with Sexy Lockup. This became a handicap match because Danshoku Dieno had to miss the card due to a possible fever.

During the opening announcements, Matsuno announced he would be having kidney transplant surgery but promised to make a comeback (Matsuno is well into his 50s if not his 60s). Announced for upcoming events are a “New Year’s Electric Blast” match at the request of Shunma Katsumata, likely involving Atsushi Onita, on 1/7/23 and, on 12/29, LiLiCo will participate in the opening ritual of anal explosion with her husband’s consent. Only in DDT. If anybody in attendance wants a refund after seeing that, shame on them. Anyway, Moving On…

Match 3: Minoru Fujita, MJ Pawl & KANON beat Yukio Sakaguchi, Hideki Okatani & Yuya Koroku. KANON pinned Koroku after Sleepy Hollow.

Match 4: In a No Touch Rule match, HARASHIMA, Naruki Doi, Toru Owashi & Kazuki Hirata beat MAO, Shunma Katsumata, Toui Kojima & Takeshi Masada. Doi pinned Kojima after Bakatare Sliding Kick. Afterwards, Doi participation for 12/21 & 12/29 was announced, with one event possibly having him in a match against HARASHIMA.

Match 5: D KING GP 2022 Block A: Joey Janela vs. Rickey Shane Page went to a double countout. No points.

Match 6: D KING GP 2022 Block A: Naomi Yoshimura beat Tetsuya Endo.

Match 7: D KING GP 2022 Block A: Yuki Ueno beat Daisuke Sasaki. As a result, Ueno wins Block A and advances to the Finals.

Match 8: D KING GP 2022 Block B: Chris Brookes beat Yuji Hino.

Main Event: D KING GP 2022 Block B: Yukio Naya beat Kazusada Higuchi. As a result, Naya wins Block B and advances to the Finals and it will be Ueno-Naya on 12/4 with the winner facing Higuchi on 12/29 for the KO-D Openweight Championship.

The Final is 12/4. The next event is 11/27 at JR Omori Station East Exit Square in Tokyo. This is a free outdoor event. There will be no live broadcast.

DDT Card Changes for Upcoming Events

DDT has announced a few card changes for upcoming events over the next week:

First up is Friday at Korakuen Hall-those deplorable Pheromones will be down a man because Danshoku Dieno is now off. Fever. He was to have teamed with Yuki Iino, Yumehito Imanari & Koju Takeda to face Akito, Masa Takanashi, Antonio Honda & Gorgeous Matsuno. It’s now a handicap match. It is a pre-show dark match.

Yuna Mizumori, who normally competes in ChocoPro, is now off Tuesday’s Masa Takanashi Independent Event. Meniscus injury. She was to have teamed with Yasu Urano to face Gota Ihashi & Shinsetsu Rubber Man. SAKI (this is not Saki Akai) the replacement.

Yoshiko Hasegawa (Ganbare) & Juria Nagano have been added to Tokyo Joshi Pro on 11/27 at Korakuen Hall. Matches TBA.

BREAKING: Japanese Legend to AEW This Friday

All Elite Wrestling has just announced a dream match of Konosuke Takeshita & Jun Akiyama vs. Eddie Kingston & Ortiz for this Friday’s AEW Rampage, airing LIVE at 10 PM ET on TNT (TAPED at 10 PM PT). Akiyama, currently a member of DDT along with Takeshita, will be making his AEW debut while Takeshita returns to the promotion after a few months back in DDT after a successful first excursion to the US. Takeshita will probably spend more time in AEW after this Akiyama was not schedules for this weekend’s DDT event and the promotion doesn’t have an event scheduled until 12/2 (excluding an outdoor mini event) so there’s a chance Akiyama sticks around for a match or two next week.

DDT 11/13/22 Results

DDT continued the D KING GP today with a homecoming event for Yukio Sakaguchi & HARASHIMA and, following the Tokyo Joshi Pro event a couple hours before, a second such event for Saki Akai. The tournament entered the home stretch.

Today’s event was held at Kyoto KBS Hall in Kyoto and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

The announced paid attendance was 280, a super full house/very near sellout. Vocal cheering was allowed.

Match 1: Rickey Shane Page, Makoto Oishi & Yuya Koroku beat Joey Janela, Makoto Oishi & Kazuma Sumi. Koroku beat Sumi with a chicken wing. Yes, the results say Makoto Oishi was on both teams…

Match 2: Toru Owashi & Kazuki Hirata beat Danshoku Dieno & Yuki Iino by DQ. Iino DQ’d. Ref assault. Good thing Masayuki (referee) was properly wearing his face mask when Iino “assaulted” him.

Match 3: D KING GP Block B; Yukio Naya beat KANON.

Match 4: D KING GP Block B: Yuji Hino beat MAO.

Match 5; Tetsuya Endo, Naruki Doi & Akito beat Hideki Okatani, Yuki Ishida & Takeshi Masada. Doi pinned Ishida after Bakatare Sliding Kick. Afterwards, Doi announced his intent to continue participating in DDT in the future (he primarily has competed in Dragon Gate for most of his career).

Match 6: D KING GP Block A: Daisuke Sasaki beat Naomi Yoshimura.

Match 7: D KING GP Block B: Kazusada Higuchi beat Chris Brookes.

Main Event: Saki Akai Produced Match: Saki Akai, Yukio Sakaguchi & HARASHIMA beat Aja Kong, Yuki Ueno & DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion Shunma Katsumata. Sakaguchi pinned Katsumata after God’s Right Knee to win the title. Sakaguchi becomes the 1555th DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion. Which led to…
Saki Akai beat DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion Yukio Sakaguchi to win the title. Akai becomes the 1556th DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion. Apparently Hideki Okatani then tried to win the title from Akai but it appears he failed.

D KING GP Standings:
Block A:
1-Endo, 2-1-1, 5 pts
2-Sasaki, 2-1-1, 5 pts
3-Ueno, 2-2, 4 pts
4-Janela, 2-2, 4 pts
5-Page, 2-2, 4 pts
6-Yoshimura, 1-3, 2 pts (OUT)

Block B:
1-Higuchi, 3-0-1, 7 pts
2-Hino, 3-0-1, 7 pts
3-Naya, 3-1, 6 pts
4-Brookes, 1-3, 2 pts (OUT)
5-MAO, 1-4, 2 pts (OUT)
6-KANON, 1-4, 2 pts (OUT)
The winner of each block advances to the Finals. Block A comes down to Endo-Yoshimura & Sasaki-Ueno, but if both were to somehow end in a draw or no contest, the Janela-Page winner can steal it. It should be noted if Endo & Sasaki tie at the top, their head-to-head match ended in a time limit draw. Block B probably will come down to Higuchi-Naya. If Naya wins, Hino wins Block B with a win in his last match (Brookes) but Naya wins if Hino loses. If Higuchi wins and Hino loses or draws, Higuchi wins. If both Higuchi and Hino win, it gets very interesting because their head-to-head match was a time limit draw.

The next event is Friday at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin at 1:30 AM PT/4:30 AM ET.
