New Japan 8/5/22 Results

New Japan ran Day 12 of the G1 CLIMAX 32 today, headlined by a grudge rematch between former IWGP World Heavyweight Champions Shingo Takagi & Will Ospreay.

Today’s event was held at Osaka Prefectural Gym in Osaka and can be watched on demand on New Japan World in Japanese and English.

The announced paid attendance was 3370. If Osaka still has their strict venue capacity limits in place (meaning 50% tops), this would be very close to a legit sellout.

Match 1: Sho, Yujiro Takahashi, Chase Owens & EVIL beat Ryohei Oiwa, David Finlay, Tama Tonga & Tomohiro Ishii. Sho beat Oiwa with an armbar.

Match 2: Aaron Henare & Jeff Cobb beat Royce Isaacs & Tom Lawlor. Henare pinned Isaacs after Streets Of Rage.

Match 3: Bad Luck Fale, Juice Robinson & KENTA beat BUSHI, SANADA & Tetsuya Naito. Robinson pinned BUSHI after Pulp Friction.

Match 4: Hiroshi Tanahashi & Kazuchika Okada beat Jonah & Bad Dude Tito. Tanahashi pinned Tito after High Fly Flow.

G1 CLIMAX:
Match 5: Block D-YOSHI-HASHI beat El Phantasmo.
Match 6: Block A-Lance Archer beat Toru Yano.
Match 7: Block C-Zack Sabre Jr. beat Hirooki Goto by submission.
Match 8: Block B-Jay White beat Great-O-Khan.
Main Event: Block D-Shingo Takagi beat Will Ospreay.

Standings:
Block A:
1-Okada, 3-0, 6 pts
2-Jonah, 2-1, 4 pts
3-Cobb, 2-2, 4 pts
4-Archer, 2-2, 4 pts
5-Fale, 2-2, 4 pts
6-Lawlor, 1-2, 2 pts
7-Yano, 1-4, 2 pts (OUT)

Block B:
1-White, 4-0, 8 pts
2-Tonga, 2-1, 4 pts
3-Taichi, 2-1, 4 pts
4-SANADA, 2-2, 4 pts
5-Ishii, 1-3, 2 pts (OUT)
6-Owens, 1-3, 2 pts (OUT)
7-Khan, 1-3, 2 pts (OUT)

Block C:
1-Tanahashi, 3-1, 6 pts
2-Sabre, 3-1, 6 pts
3-Goto, 2-2, 4 pts
4-Naito, 2-2, 4 pts
5-KENTA, 1-2, 2 pts
6-EVIL, 1-2, 2 pts
7-Henare, 1-3, 2 pts

Block D:
1-Finlay, 3-1, 6 pts
2-YOSHI-HASHI, 2-1, 4 pts
3-Ospreay, 2-2, 4 pts
4-Takagi 2-2, 4 pts
5-Takahashi, 2-2, 4 pts
6-Phantasmo, 1-2, 2 pts
7-Robinson, 1-3, 2 pts
The winner of each block advances to the Semifinals. And now we see the ranks thinning. In Block A, Yano is now (thankfully) out of it, and while Okada remains firmly in control it is far from over with Jonah in the best steal position having one additional match left. In Block B, nearly half the field dropped out of contention today, and it’s all but over as White just needs a win or draw in one of his final two matches but it could be over by then as those matches are a week away. He finishes with Taichi then his final opponent is Tonga. But Taichi-Tonga is Tuesday and that puts the loser on the brink of elimination. In Block C, it seems to be down to Tanahashi & Sabre, if head-to-head result is the eventual tiebreaker it would go to Tanahashi. EVIL & KENTA are still in it because they each have one additional match left. Henare is pretty much out now. In Block D, Finlay remains the surprise leader and has a manageable final stretch of YOSHI-HASHI & Phantasmo. Everyone still has a chance although Robinson needs tons of help to have a chance as his only win, and potential tiebreaker, is against Takagi.

Day 13 is tomorrow with Okada-Jonah as the main event. Live streaming on New Japan World will begin TONIGHT at 10 PM PT/1 AM ET.

7-Takahashi, 1-2, 2 pts
The winner of each block will advance to the Semifinals. While nobody is officially out yet, it’s virtually over for Yano and Ishii as tiebreakers are their only hope. The big surprise is Finlay controlling Block D after beating Ospreay today, but Ospreay has an extra match left. Block C, as expected, is living up to the Death Block prediction and remains wide open.

New Japan Pro Wrestling Music City Mayhem Results (7/30/22)

The US wrestling world, amazingly including WWE, descends on Nashville, TN this weekend for likely the biggest non-WrestleMania weekend of the year. While WWE runs their major SummerSlam event tonight, the focus otherwise is on “Starrcast V”, an entire weekend of independent events, special fan gatherings, podcast tapings and more all centered around the final match in the career of the one & only Ric Flair tomorrow night. New Japan is part of Starrcast with their latest US event today, Music City Mayhem. On paper it seems like a “B show” because all the top talent is in Japan for the ongoing G1 CLIMAX tournament so the show will mainly feature the US-based talent and some of the top Jr. Heavyweights from NJPW and some top All Elite Wrestling names including FTR. 2 title matches are on tap too-Davey Richards will defend the MLW National Championship against Rocky Romero, stepping in because original challenger Clark Connors is out due to injury. Then STRONG Openweight Champion Fred Rosser makes his first defense against Big Damo. The main event is AEW Interim World Champion Jon Moxley vs. El Desperado in a NON-TITLE match, and to make it more fair for the smaller Desperado it’s No DQ.

Today’s event will be held at the Nashville Fairgrounds in Nashville, TN and can be watched LIVE and on demand ONLY ON FITE in English. IT IS NOT AVAILABLE ON NEW JAPAN WORLD. The event is available as a standalone PPV for $14.99 and includes the live broadcast and unlimited on demand replays (you also get unlimited replays if you buy it on demand after the event), or as part of one of the special Starrcast V inclusive bundles that include Ric Flair’s last match tomorrow-these start at $99.99.
If you plan to watch SummerSlam later or any other Starrcast events there should be no conflicts here as I expect this to be a short event, only running about 2 hours. (Post-show note: It went about 2 hours, 40 minutes)

Today’s lineup:
Red Yehi, Yuya Uemura & Shota Umino vs. The DKC, Kevin Knight & Ren Narita
MLW National Champion Davey Richards vs. Rocky Romero for the title
STRONG Openweight Champion Fred Rosser vs. Big Damo for the title
Hiromu Takahashi vs. Blake Christian
FTR & Alex Zayne vs. Aussie Open & TJP
KUSHIDA vs. Alex Shelley
Jon Moxley vs. El Desperado in a No DQ match

Refresh this page occasionally for the latest results.

Updates below will begin at 3 PM ET/Noon PT.

Result: Hiromu Takahashi beat Blake Christian

Tanga Loa joins commentary.

Match 5: Aussie Open & TJP vs. FTR & Alex Zayne. 20 minute time limit
Result: Aussie Open & TJP beat FTR & Alex Zayne. Mark Davis pinned Zayne. Afterwards, Aussie Open challenged FTR for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. (Some technical difficulties with stream caused me to miss just under a minute of this about 2/3 of the way through)

Match 6: KUSHIDA vs. Alex Shelley. 20 minute time limit
Result: Time Limit Draw

Main Event: Jon Moxley vs. El Desperado in a No DQ match. No time limit
Result: Jon Moxley beat El Desperado by ref stoppage (technical submission). Afterwards, Moxley with microphone for a promo to send the crowd home happier.

Despite some brief technical issues this was an event that, based on its lineup on paper, really overachieved and was great from start to finish. Every match is worth watching but KUSHIDA-Shelley alone is worth the $15.

End Show.

New Japan Late Changes for 7/26-7/27

New Japan has announced some last-minute changes for the undercards of the G1 CLIMAX 32 events tomorrow and Wednesday at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo-Kosei Fujita is now off both events. Precautionary due to “damage sustained” Wednesday. For tomorrow, he was to have teamed with Yuto Nakashima to face Sho & Yujiro Takahashi. Ryohei Oiwa is the replacement. On Wednesday, Fujita was to have been in a 8-man tag with Kazuchika Okada, YOSHI-HASHI & David Finlay vs. Gedo, Chase Owens, Juice Robinson & Jay White. Oiwa again is the replacement and, as a result, what had been a 6-man tag of Oiwa, Nakashima & Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Dick Togo, Sho & EVIL is now Nakashima & Tanahashi vs. Sho & EVIL as Togo is now off as well.
No word on how long Fujita may be out.
