NWA “Nuff Said” PPV Results (2/11/23)

Here are the quick results from last night’s NWA “Nuff Said” PPV in Tampa, FL (I had planned to do live results but was unable to due to illness):
The event can be watched on FITE for $24.99 and, if your should-be-cancelled subscription still has time left on it, NWA All-Access (Annual Plan only. The service has been discontinued but you can still watch for free until your subscription runs out). The pre-show is available FOR FREE on YouTube. The event was a legit advance sellout.
Pre-show:
La Rosa Negra beat Missa Kate.
Dax Draper & Mims beat Jax Dane & Blake Troop. Draper pinned Troop with a slingshot rollup.
EC3 announced he has signed with NWA and is bringing his Control Your Narrative brand with him.
Odinson beat Joe Alonzo.
Mercurio & Natakia Markova beat Jennacide & Max The Impaler. Markova pinned Jennacide after a double-arm DDT.

PPV:
In a Singapore Cane Match, Thom Latimer beat Fodder.
NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Champion Kerry Morton beat Alex Taylor to retain the title.
Thrillbilly Silas Mason beat (JR) Kratos.
Renegade Twins beat NWA World Women’s Tag Team Champions Pretty Empowered to become THE NEW NWA WORLD WOMEN’S TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS! Charlette Renegade pinned Ella Envy with a rollup. (Yes, the same Renegades that have been jobbers in AEW)
EC3 beat Kevin Kiley (Alex Riley) by submission.
NWA World Tag Team Champions La Rebelion beat Blunt Force Trauma by DQ to retain the titles. Blunt Force Trauma DQ’d when manager Aron Stevens got caught with a loaded punch to Bestia 666.
Chris Adonis beat Trevor Murdoch by submission.
In a No DQ Match, NWA World Women’s Champion Kamille beat Angelina Love to retain the title.
NWA National Heavyweight Champion Cyon beat Homicide to retain the title.
In a No Seconds at Ringside Match, NWA World Heavyweight Champion Tyrus beat Matt Cardona to retain the title. Bully Ray was on commentary. There was interference from Rolando Freeman, Mike Knox and Bully after a ref bump. Afterwards, Tyrus offered Bully an open contract for a title shot. The result seems to give more credibility to rumors that Cardona could soon be following wife Chelsea Green back to WWE (Cardona most recently has been with Impact Wrestling).

No word yet on when the next PPV is, they have TV tapings today & tomorrow in Tampa then are headed to Mexico on 3/4 for a crossover event with AAA in Mexico City that will include a Smashing Pumpkins performance (Billy Corgan’s band). After that, NWA matches will be part of a 2-week Smashing Pumpkins tour in Australia in April, and given recent schedules the next PPV will probably follow in May with what should be the 75th Anniversary Event in August.

NWA “Hard Times In New Orleans” Results (11/12/22)

The NWA runs their final quarterly PPV of the year today, and it comes amidst a month of white-hot controversy outside of the ring. Over the last couple months, a fast-growing inferno has erupted between now-potentially-former top star Nick Aldis and NWA owner/promoter Billy Corgan that, in reality, stretches back about a year when Aldis first lost the NWA World Heavyweight Championship to Trevor Murdoch, later had a title shot mysteriously taken away, and now has spilled over to include comments Corgan reportedly made to Aldis’ wife, WWE Hall of Famer and current NWA & Impact wrestler (and radio host) Mickie James. Aldis has given notice he’s leaving NWA at the end of the year when his contract is up and now has supposedly been suspended. But could he make a surprise unexpected appearance tonight? That threatens to overshadow another big card. A lot is on the line including Murdoch defending the 10 Pounds Of Gold against both Matt Cardona and Tyrus, who vacated the NWA TV Championship under the Lucky 7 Rules, to get into the title match (Lucky 7 Rules allow the TV Champion to vacate the title for another title shot of his choice if he makes 7 consecutive successful defenses, which Tyrus did. It’s not mandatory). These are among the TEN title matches making up the planned 14-match card.

Today’s event will be held at Frederick J Sigur Civic Center in Chalmette, LA and can be watched LIVE on FITE. The PPV itself is $24.99 and includes the live broadcast and unlimited on demand replays. If you are an NWA All Access Annual subscriber (which I am), you can watch the PPV live and on demand as part of your subscription. All Access Annual is available on FITE for $49.99/year and includes ALL NWA PPVs and current & past weekly TV show episodes. It’s a bargain just because the PPVs alone are over $100/year if purchased separately. There will also be a 1 hour pre-show before the PPV which will be available FOR FREE on YouTube (and possibly FITE). You can watch the pre-show below:

Tonight’s current lineup:

Disclaimer: I don’t follow the TV shows as closely as I should. That being said, the biggest thing I don’t like about the current NWA product is every big match seems to rely too much on outside interference or screwjob tactics for the finish and it turns me off quickly. On paper this looked like a great card. In reality, not so much. Get caught up on the last couple months of NWA TV before watching. And apparently no Nick Aldis and no Billy Corgan, a slight letdown after everything they’ve said in the media lately.

End Show.

UPDATE: The reason Odinson didn’t have an opponent tonight because plans changed? Aldis. it was to have originally been Odinson-Alsis.

NWA 74 Night 2 Results (8/28/22)

The National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), under the leadership of William Patrick Corgan aka Billy Corgan (of the music group Smashing Pumpkins), holds their anniversary event this weekend, their biggest event of the year. NWA 74 is their WrestleMania and will be held as a 2-night doubleheader loaded with big names and big matches. Night 2 tonight has several more title matches and is headlined by a big man faceoff for the 10 Pounds Of Gold in the main event as NWA World Heavyweight Champion Trevor Murdoch defends against NWA TV Champion Tyrus. The TV Title is not on the line so this is not a double title match. And after a brutal title defense last night against Taya Valkyrie, there’s no rest for NWA Women’s World Champion Kamille as she now must defend tonight against Max The Impaler, who won The Burke Invitational last night.

Tonight’s event will be held at the Khorassan Ballroom at Chase Park Royal Sonesta in St. Louis, MO and can be watched LIVE on FITE. There are two ways to watch: Tonight’s event is available as a standalone PPV for $24.99 or you can get a combo pack with yesterday’s Night 1 included for $39.99. Either way, a purchase gets you the live broadcast and unlimited on demand replays of both nights. If you are an NWA All Access Annual member or you sign up, you get both nights included and all past, present and upcoming NWA TV episodes and archived content live and on demand and more. NWA All Access Annual is $49.99 for a year-considering that’s how much this weekend’s PPVs cost on their own, and each of their 4 annual PPVs is $25 each, it’s a bargain-like getting this weekend’s events or 2 PPVs each year FOR FREE! I bought the Annual plan so I get this weekend’s events as part of it. There is also a monthly All Access plan for $4.99/month but that only includes the TV episodes. The first hour of tonight’s event will be a pre-show available FOR FREE on YouTube.

Tonight’s current lineup (subject to change):

She looked equally embarrassed and dumbfounded but of course said yes. Galli then returns to commentary.

Afterwards, Murdoch tries to put over Tyrus but Tyrus knocks over the commentary table instead after talking to his kid at ringside and just walks off. Murdoch thanks the crowd to send them home happy.

Overall show grade: C
Like yesterday, I have not kept up on the NWA recently as much as I should have so I’m no tup to speed on what has been happening and that affected my perception of the weekend. There were some good matches and some bad matches, but also what felt like a lot of filler and a lot of the not-always-good things we see in WWE & AEW. Overall this weekend came off as average to me. For tonight, the Women’s title matches are worth watching, also check out Aldis-Gordon and the Tornado Tag. But if you’re relatively new to the NWA, watch some of their recent TV first if you can, you’ll get more out of this weekend.

End Show.

Main Show:
Mandatory FBI Warning graphic then the opening video plays.

We are LIVE from the Khorassan Ballroom at Chase Park Royal Sonesta in St. Louis, MO. Your hosts are Joe Galli, Velvet Sky & Tim Storm.

Nick Aldis comes out first. With microphone. Because he lost what was to have been an NWA World Heavyweight Title match this weekend for unspecified reasons (known only to Aldis and Billy Corgan), he thought about quitting before shifting to talk about his wife, WWE Hall Of Famer Mickie James. He promises that we don’t want to miss his match tomorrow against Flip Gordon. He closes by welcoming everyone to NWA 74.
For those unfamiliar, Aldis has been the face of the NWA since the pandemic began and had a year-plus reign as NWA World Heavyweight Champion.

Match 1: EC3 vs. Mims
Result:: EC3 beat Mims by submission
Grade: C+
Afterwards, EC3 with microphone for a Control Your Narrative promo (his new project launched earlier this year with Adam Scherr, the former Braun Strowman in WWE), but was interrupted by Thom Latimer coming out. Grade: B

Former NWA World Champion Tommy Rich is brought out. He fires up the crowd.

May Valentine interview Thrillbilly Silas. He faces Davey Richards for the NLW National Championship tomorrow.

Match 5: Matt Cardona vs. TBA. TBA is an opponent hand-picked by Cardona for his return match here. Cardona out first with microphone. He complains about how his injury caused him to miss his own PPV (Alwayz Ready, the last NWA PPV) and forced him to vacate the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. (If you’re new to the NWA or didn’t catch him in AEW during a brief run last year, Cardona is the former Zack Ryder in WWE) Then he says his mystery opponent is not Nick Aldis. And it’s not Bully Ray. Xardona then says he’s got a future title shot in his pocket thanks to Billy Corgan before revealing his hand-picked opponent…Rolando Freeman. A wrestler who is MUCH SMALLER than Cardona.
Result: Rolando Freeman beat Matt Cardona
Grade: D+ (Mostly a joke match although Cardona got his comeuppance in the end. That got it up from D)

May Valentine interviews Samantha Starr & former women’s wrestling icon Baby Doll (apparently Starr is her daughter).

Afterwards, Bully broke off a piece of a table and gave it to a young girl in the front row as a souvenir to send that fan home happy and make a new fan for life in a great gesture.

Match 9: Hawx Aerie vs. La Rebellion for the vacant NWA Heavyweight Tag Team Championship
As the match was about to begin, former co-champion Doug Williams came out to present his belt to the referee in a great show of respect.
Result: La Rebellion beat Hawx Aerie to win the vacant NWA Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. Bestia 666 pinned PJ Hawx with a rollup after Damien 666 sprayed mist while the ref was distracted.
Grade: B

Billy Corgan brings out Trevor Murdoch & Tyrus to promote tomorrow’s main event for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship held by Murdoch. Tyrus is also the NWA TV Champion, that title is not on the line.

Main Event: NWA Women’s World Champion Kamille vs. Taya Valkyrie for the title
Result: NWA Women’s World Champion Kamille beat Taya Valkyrie to retain the title.
Grade: A
Afterwards, almost the entire women’s locker room came out in a show of respect for both. Some of the men’s locker room could be seen near the entrance applauding as Kamille walked to the back.

Overall show grade: C+
Extremely close to a B- though, while the grade suggests is was just above average the good did outweigh the bad in my view, and I’m not as up to speed on the NWA as I should be. Just a little too much screwjob in teh title matches, but outside of the Cardona joke match nothing was terrible. The pre-show and the Cardona match can be skipped, the main event is must-watch while most of the rest is between worth watching and at least take a look at. Tomorrow should be better with the really big matches.

End Show.

NWA Alwayz Ready Results (6/11/22)

Tonight this site’s coverage of the NWA begins with their next quarterly PPV, Alwayz Ready. For those unfamiliar with the NWA in its current state, since shortly before the coronavirus pandemic began the NWA has been owned and promoted by Billy Corgan-yes, THAT Billy Corgan, musician and longtime frontman of the band Smashing Punpkins. When Corgan took over, he made a commitment to honoring the legacy of the famed organization. Their presence is mostly online right now as they have foregone TV deals for now in favor of placing their weekly TV shows FREE on YouTube and FITE for a limited time each week before they go behind a paywall. They have a loaded PPV set tonight with 6 title matches, including in the main event a match for the 10 Pounds Of Gold-the NWA World Heavyweight Championship as Matt Cardona (the former Zack Ryder) defends against the current torchbearer of the NWA through the pandemic, former champion Nick Aldis.

Today’s event will be held at the Knoxville Convention Center in Knoxville, TN and can be watched LIVE on FITE. There are two ways to watch: The PPV is available as a standalone event for $24.99, which includes the live broadcast and unlimited on demand replays. You can also watch as an NWA All Access Annual Member, which gets you access to all past and upcoming NWA PPVs, all TV episodes, monthly specials and more. An annual subscription costs $49.99, which means essentially you buy 2 PPVs and get all the TV, additional specials, AND 2 more PPVs FOR FREE! You can also get a monthly subscription for $4.99 a month, which does not include PPVs. I recently bought the annual subscription. Once you do, all content becomes available on FITE.
There will also be a FREE pre-show on YouTube 1 hour before the PPV. Click below to watch the pre-show FOR FREE:

Cyon vs. Thom Latimer has been added to the card.

Sam Shaw appearance. His last NWA appearance was 4 years ago at NWA 70. Shaw says nothing when interviewed. Rush Freeman then comes out. he rants and brings out Sal Runauro who quickly is sent packing. Handshake between Freeman & Shaw but Shaw doesn’t let go, leading to a uranage & choke until Rinauro recovered and attacked Shaw. Rinauro was choked out standing until The Gimp ran in. He wisely rolled Rinauro out of the ring and bailed.

Wrecking Ball Legursky interviewed. He says partner Jay Bradley is hurt and they’re out of the 3-way. Groin injury with a terrible (almost hilarious) sell job. Elephantitis of the groin?

Austin Idol joins commentary. A second or two behind his cue to start talking.

Match 2; AJ Cazana & Anthony Andrews (apparently the TBA) vs. Ricky & Kerry Morton. This was to have been a 3-way, now is just a regular tag match. However, As the match was beginning, Alex Taylor & Jeremiah Plunkett were added as replacements to make it a 3-way again.

We are LIVE from the Knoxville Convention Center in Knoxville, TN. Your hosts are Joe Galli, Tim Storm & Velvet Sky.

The onscreen graphics are incorrectly listing Mims as the NWA TV Champion. Tyrus is the champion.

Match 1: Aron Stevens vs. Trevor Murdoch. Billed as potentially Stevens’ last career match.
Result: Trevor Murdoch beat Aron Stevens. Stevens may have been hurt when his foot got caught in the top corner turnbuckle early in the match (which was short). Afterwards, Stevens with microphone. “You’re Welcome!” His classic WWE Damien Sandow catchphrase.

Match 2: NWA World Women’s Tag Team Champions Allysin Kay & Marti Belle vs. Ella Envy & Kenzie Paige for the titles
Result: Ella Envy & Kenzie Paige beat NWA World Women’s Tag Team Champions Allysin Kay & Marti Belle to become THE NEW NWA WORLD WOMEN’S TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS! Envy pinned Belle after an unseen low blow mule kick followed by a Fameasser into a leg takedown. This came after Envy teased being DQ’d for using the title belts before the ref took them away, setting up the distraction low blow.

Match 3: NWA Jr. Heavyweight Champion Homicide vs. PJ Hawx for the title
Result: NWA Jr. Heavyweight Champion Homicide beat PJ Hawx to retain the title. Afterwards, Jay Bradley & Wrecking Ball Lagursky beat down Homicide, Hawx & Luke Haex until The Mortons made the save. As Bradley & Lagursky left, Colby Corino came in with a ref to cash in a title shot he previously earned. Which led to…
Impromptu Match: NWA Jr. Heavyweight Champion Homicide vs. Colby Corino for the title

Match 6: Cyon vs. Thom Latimer
Result: Thom Latimer beat Cyon

Match 7: NWA World TV Champion Tyrus vs. Mims for the title
Result: NWA World TV Champion Tyrus beat Mims to retain the title. Mims may have been legit injured during the match, commentary suggested a separated shoulder.

Match 8: NWA World Tag Team Champions Bestia 666 & Mecha Wolf (La Rebelion) vs. Doug Williams & Harry Smith (The Commonwealth Connection) for the titles
Result: Doug Williams & Harry Smith beat NWA World Tag Team Champions Bestia 666 & Mecha Wolf to become THE NEW NWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS! Williams pinned Bestia after a Smith diving headbutt off the top rope.

Match 9: NWA Women’s World Champion Kamille vs. KiLynn King for the title
Result: NWA Women’s World Champion Kamille beat KiLynn King to retain the title. Easy A+ match. After the match, Max The Impaler stormed the ring and had to be restrained by security. No easy task against a woman the size of Max The Impaler.

Dr. Tom Pritchard is brought out. He thanks the fans for coming out and puts the NWA over.

Main Event: NWA World Heavyweight Champion Matt Cardona (with Chelsea Green, Mike Knox & VSK) vs. Nick Aldis for the title. Cardona comes out with his arm in a sling and in a cast.
Cardona out first. With microphone. He says he can’t compete tonight. It sounds like the main event is off. Cardona said he is out 3-5 months after having surgery earlier this week.He makes a soap opera about the belt until NWA President/Owner Billy Corgan comes out. He talks to Cardona, but because Green has the microphone we can’t hear what they are saying, but commentary says Corgan is making it clear that he, and not Cardona, runs the company. It sounds like Corgan wants Cardona to vacate the title, but before this can possibly happen Nick Aldis comes out. With microphone. Aldis says he’s injured too, but it’s a fake from carriny the NWA the last 5 years. He buries Cardona for being an ex-WWE guy. Aldis put the title belt and history over, getting pops for names dropped. Aldis says Cardona isn’t good enough to be NWA World Champion and follows with an NSFW insult before saying call for a rematch when Cardona’s 100%. Aldis doesn’t care what happens with the belt but says he’s going to close the show for the fans and essentially calls for an open challenge and a match to send the crowd home happy. Trevor Murdoch immediately comes out. A referee is right behind. Commentary says Murdoch is cashing in a rematch clause. Lots of confusion until Thom Latimer comes out with Kamille. Kamille with microphone. She demands her husband Latimer get a shot and he is the next NWA World Champion. Latimer talks Kamille down then with microphone to Corgan. Latimer buries Corgan for thinking he’s not main event material. Latimer says he is and he’s in the main event tonight. And in about 20 minutes he’s leaving with the title. And now Sam Shaw comes out. He STARES at Latimer. And says he wants in. Bully Ray jokes on commentary that he wants in. At long last, Cardona hands over the belt. The NWA World Heavyweight Championship is now VACANT. But Corgan has made a new match. Someone is leaving with the Ten Pounds Of Gold! Which led to…
NEW Main Event: Nick Aldis vs. Sam Shaw, Thom Latimer and Trevor Murdoch in a 4-way for the title. First Fall Wins.
Result: Trevor Murdoch beat Nick Aldis, Sam Shaw & Thom Latimer in a 4-way by pinning Aldis to become THE NEW NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!

End Show.
