Stardom 4/12/24 Results

Stardon returned to Japan today for the post-mass exodus finale where they would say goodbye to Giulia & Utami Hayashishita, who have now left the promotion.

Today’s event was held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched on demand as a PPV via Pia Stream for 2200 Japanese Yen (around $16) through this weekend. It should be available on demand on Stardom World Monday or Tuesday (the PPV window ends Monday morning).

The announced paid attendance was 1390, a full house/near sellout.

It has Japanese commentary and is broken down into individual match videos, but some wrestler entrance themes (like Ram Kaichow’s) are muted. You can still buy it on Triller/FITE for $24.99, which has English commentary with Veda Scott and (when/if you can clearly hear him, which isn’t until late in the event) Tom Lawlor and you get unlimited replays indefinitely (probably forever).

Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling 4/13/24 Results (Updated)

Tokyo Joshi Pro is back in Japan after another very successful WrestleMania week excursion to the US and resumes their spring house show tour with an event in Tokyo today, which will be the farewell event for Juria Nagano, who is leaving the promotion and pro wrestling after today’s event. Nagano did not say she is retiring so the door may remain open in the future, but at least for now she is going to be done. Maintaining a part-time schedule, she showed flashes of potential but unfortunately she missed a majority of the last 2 years due to injuries. She also is active as an actress and with other interests so there isn’t much time for wrestling. She will have 2 final matches today, first a trios match then her finale will be a single match against regular partner Moka Miyamoto.

There have been late changes to the event card because Hyper Misao is now off due to injury. Fractured right ankle. She was to have faced Yuki Kamifuku & Uta Takami in a 3-way. It’s now a single match. Also, for those unaware, Miyu Yamashita stayed in the US for another extended excursion and is not expected to return to Japan until mid-June. Maki Itoh also remains in the US for now.

Today’s event will be held at Kitazawa Town Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. There will be no commentary. The event is a legit advance sellout. Even with anything they may do as a send-off for Nagano this is otherwise a standard house show and should have a running time of around 2 hours.
There is a chance results at the start will be slightly delayed if the New Japan “Windy City Riot” PPV runs long. It starts 3 1/2 hours before this event and it could go 4+ hours.

During the opening announcements, Hyper Misao is brought out. She’s on crutches and with a cast/boot on her injured foot. Safe to say she won’t be able to compete at her produced event coming up in just over 2 weeks here. Also, compared to normal the video quality for the stream is not as good as usual. Seems like SD at best where usually the highest quality is HD.

Result: Moka Miyamoto beat Juria Nagano. They went just a few moments over 10 minutes.
Afterwards, Miyamoto with microphone. Time for an emotional farewell to her rival and partner, who she formed a solid team with and Nagano definitely made Miyamoto a better wrestler. It’s sad that Nagano’s injury history the last couple years cost her so much time, they could have been Princess Tag Team Champions had they reached their full potential. After Miyamoto finished, Suzume & Arisu Endo came out to present Nagano with a special photo book followed by Yuki Aino with the traditional flowers. Nagano with microphone to thank the fans and deliver her final farewell. For now at least since she never said this was retirement. Hopefully she will be back someday, she definitely has potential as a Miyu Yamashita-type fighter & striker and made such a good team with Miyamoto. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors. Sayuri Namba then made the final call to end the show as the roster came out to join Nagano for the customary final group photo in the ring followed by lots of hugs & well-wishes from everyone, and fittingly Miyamoto was the last one before Nagano said one last goodbye.

The next event is “Gaisen Sakura Pro Wrestling” tomorrow at Shinjo Village in Okayama, part of a special doubleheader with Pro Wrestling BASARA. The location is subject to change depending on weather as it is scheduled to be outdoors. There will be no live broadcast.

New Japan Pro Wrestling “Windy City Riot” Results (4/12/24)

New Japan is back in the US today for this year’s Windy City Riot event, billed as the promotion’s biggest US event this decade, and possibly ever. From a box office standpoint it will be their biggest US event ever based on ticket sales. It’s a loaded event on paper with 4 title matches among 11 total, getting bigger after SAKURA GENESIS last weekend-with Tetsuya Naito vs. Jon Moxley already set for today, after Naito retained the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Sunday Moxley made the challenge and this match became for the title. Also on tap is a NJPW WORLD TV Championship match as Zack Sabre Jr. tries to become a 2-time champion against Matt Riddle, STRONG Tag Team Champions El Phantasmo & Hikuleo defend in a 4-way, and NEW STRONG Women’s CHampion Stephanie Vaquer defends for the first time against AZM, who will try to bring the belt back to Stardom.

Today’s event will be held at Wintrust Arena in Chicago and can be watched LIVE ONLY ON NEW JAPAN WORLD OUTSIDE JAPAN as a PPV in English for $19.99. A paid monthly NJPW WORLD subscription is not required to buy the PPV. No Triller/FITE or any other option. Purchase includes the live stream and unlimited on demand replays until 6/30, but that date is subject to change (after that it should be available for all paying subscribers with no paywall). In Japan the event will be a live broadcast only on TV Asahi. There will be a FREE 30 minute pre-show on New Japan World and YouTube before the event with 2 matches scheduled. There’s one match with what appears to be no time limit but based on the number of matches, including the pre-show I anticipate the event will have a total running time of at least 3 1/2 hours, close to 4 hours.

Can he make it to V17 and break his own record this time? Sabre with microphone post-match for some brief comments, including saying he’ll defend the title very soon in the US. But before he can leave, Jeff Cobb comes out. Challenge issued and accepted, but Cobb goes for the cheap shot out of the handshake. They trade counters and Sabre bails. Sabre with microphone asking for the belt back in exchange for the title shot.

Result: Jon Moxley beat IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito to win the title. Moxley becomes the 9th IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. HOLY S**T! HOLY S**T! UPSET ALERT!!! I never thought this is how Naito’s first title reign (and perhaps last) would end! After only 3 months. Next/first up: TBA but it’s all but guaranteed to be at Resurgence. Afterwards, Moxley with microphone. He basically threw down the gauntlet for any and all challengers in New Japan and announced up first is…Shota Umino. But instead, Ren Narita came out and ambushed Moxley from behind. Narita with microphone. While choking out Moxley, Narita said he’s next and continued the beatdown until Umino made the save. As Narita walked off, Moxley grabbed the microphone and delivered the death threat.

To put it simply, this event absolutely lived up to the hype from beginning to end. And after the disaster that was the stream last year, this year’s broadcast was perfect, maybe helped by it being on TV in Japan (I watched on a Roku device and had zero issues). If you missed it live it’s definitely a must-buy replay.

Today’s event was held at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on AJPW.TV.

The announced paid attendance was 345, a legit sellout.

Match 1: Ren Ayabe beat Ryo Inoue.

Match 2: In a Handicap Match, Imabari Towel Mascaras & Nabeyakan beat Hideki Sekine.

Match 3: Ryuki Honda, Dan Tamura & Fuminori Abe beat Shotaro Ashino, Hokuto Omori & Kumaarashi. Honda pinned Omori after Final Vent.

Match 4: Jun & Rei Saito beat Yuma Aoyagi & Seigo Tachibana. JunSaito pinned Tachibana after Psycho Break.

Main Event: Yuma Anzai vs. Rising Hayato went to a 20 minute time limit draw.
