DDT 7/2/23 Results

DDT returned to Osaka today for a Referee Matsui Produced event, just a few weeks short of what will be his 29th Anniversary in wrestling.

Today’s event was held at Komikyo Higashinari Civic Center in Osaka and will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at a later date. There was no live broadcast.

The announced paid attendance was 438, a super full house/very near sellout.

Pre-Show Match: Yusuke Okada & Yuki Ishida beat Kazuma Sumi & Illusion. Ishida pinned Illusion.

Match 1: Danshoku Dieno & Yuki Iino beat Toru Owashi & Trans-Am Hiroshi and Takao Soma & Shota in a 3-way when Iino pinned Hiroshi.

Match 2: Daisuke Sasaki & MJ Paul beat Tsubasa & Makoto Oishi. Sasaki beat Oishi with a crossface.

Match 3: Tetsuya Endo & Kuishinbo Kanem beat Kikutaro & Antonio Honda. Endo pinned Honda after Burning Star Press. There appeared to be a comedy segment after the match where Kikutaro claimed he found Referee Matsui’s missing wallet the other day…albeit without 50,000 yen inside (about $375 US). Never trust a clown. Especially one that’s a comedy wrestler.

Match 4: Nick Wayne, Kohei Kinoshita & Yuya Koroku beat MAO, Toi Kojima & Yuni. Wayne pinned Yuni after Waynes World.

Match 5: Yukio Sakaguchi & Saki Akai beat No Name & Kazuki Hirata. Sakaguchi pinned Hirata after PK.

Match 6: Magnitude Kishiwada 30th Anniversary Match: Dick Togo (New Japan), Magnitude Kishiwada (Independent/Freelancer) & Black Buffalo (Osaka Pro) beat Shigehiro Irie (GLEAT), Yuto Kikuchi & Takeshi Masada. Kishiwada pinned Masada after Last Ride. Afterwards,Kishiwada announced that after 30 years he has no intent of retiring anytime soon, and may never retire.

Match 7: Yuji Hino, Jun Akiyama & Hideki Okatani beat HARASHIMA, Kazusada Higuchi & Akito. Hino beat Akito with King Kong sleeper.

Main Event: Yuki Ueno beat HUB (Independent/Freelancer). Afterwards, HUB unmasked but had a towel underneath his mask and did not reveal his actual identity, and gave his mask to Ueno.

The next event is Friday at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin at 3 AM PT/6 AM ET.

Dragon Gate 7/2/23 Results

Kobe Pro Wrestling Festival 2023, Dragon Gate’s biggest annual event of the year (their version of WrestleMania), is now in the books.

Today’s event was held at Kobe World Hall in Kobe and can be watched on demand on DRAGONGATE NETWORK.

The announced paid attendance was 5150.

Pre-show Match 1: Shachihoko BOY, Takashi Yoshida & Problem Dragon beat Genki Horiguchi, Punch Tominaga & Ho Ho Lun. Yoshida pinned Tominaga after Pineapple Bomber.

Pre-show Match 2: KAI & H-Y-O beat Mochizuki Junior & Ryoya Tanaka. H-Y-O pinned Tanaka after Zero Kick.

Match 1: Dragon Dia, La Estrella & Eita beat Kagetora, U-T & Taro Nohashi (Michinoku Pro). Dia pinned U-T after DDDDT.

Match 2: ISHIN beat Open The Brave Gate Champion Jason Lee to win the title. ISHIN becomes the 48th Open The Brave Gate Champion.

Match 3: Kenoh (Pro Wrestling NOAH) & Masaaki Mochizuki beat Don Fujii & Shuji Kondo. Kenoh pinned Fujii after PFS. This was originally to have been Mochizuki & Fujii vs. Kenoh & Kondo but was changed after Kenoh disbanded Kongo last week.

Match 5: Open The Twin Gate Champions Susumu Mochizuki & Yasushi Kanda beat BxB Hulk & Ben-K to retain the titles. Mochizuki pinned Hulk after a modified Yokosuka Cutter. V1 for the champs.

Match 6: Hiromu Takahashi (New Japan) beat YAMATO.

Match 7: Kota Minoura, Minorita & Naruki Doi beat Open The Triangle Gate Champions Kzy, BIGBOSS Shimizu & JACKY “FUNKY” KAMEI to win the titles. Minoura, Minorita & Doi become the 86th Open The Triangle Gate Champions. Minoura pinned Kzy after Golden Rose.

Match 8: Open The Dream Gate Champion Madoka Kikuta beat Yuki Yoshioka to retain the title.V1 for Kikuta.

Main Event: In a Mascara Contra Mascara Cage Survival 5-Way Match, where the only way to escape was to climb to the top of the cage and retrieve your mask and the last one left was the ultimate loser, the participants were Ultimo Dragon, Dragon Kid, Shun Skywalker, Diamante & Strong Machine J. The ultimate loser was Diamante. As a result, Diamante loses his mask.

Next up is KING OF GATE 2023, the promotion’s annual singles tournament, starting Friday at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. Live streaming on DRAGONGATE NETWORK will begin at 2:30 AM PT/5:30 AM ET.

All-Japan Pro Wrestling 7/2/23 Results

All-Japan begins their july schedule today with a second straight major event, this time the focus is on the Aoyagi brothers. Atsuki Aoyagi is currently the All-Japan World Jr. Heavyweight Champion and he’ll look to keep that title while brother Yuma Aoyagi is next to challenge New Japan stalwart Yuji Nagata and try to reclaim the Triple Crown today. The smaller Aoyagi defends against GLEAT star El Lindaman, part of a large contingent of GLEAT participation today.

There also have been some last minute changes to the event due to Shuji Ishikawa and Oji Shiiba being off the event due to injuries. A couple of early matches were changed, most notably adding Tomoaki Honma participation from New Japan as a replacement for Ishikawa. Ryo Kawamura is the other injury replacement, filling in for Shiiba.

Today’s event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on AJPW.TV. Since it’s Korakuen and may be a TV simulcast on Japan (either Samurai! TV or GAORA, probably the former) there should be Japanese commentary. With 2 title matches among the 7 matches and based on time limits I would expect this event to have a total running time of between 2 1/2-3 hours but it wouldn’t go more than 4 hours.

The paid attendance should be announced after the event. They didn’t announce attendance for their last event and their website has been somewhat broken the last couple days so we’ll see. From what I saw when we went back at the start it looked like a good crowd with some empty bleachers on either side opposite hard camera. Could be near or around 1000. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 1047)

Result: Yuma Aoyagi beat All-Japan Triple Crown Champion Yuji Nagata to win the Triple Crown. Aoyagi becomes the 70th All-Japan Triple Crown Champion. Next up: Unless Shotaro Ashino comes back anytime soon, potentially Hokuto Omori as he came out to issue the challenge. Afterwards, a funny spot as Aoyagi was not exactly Kento Miyahara when it came to handling the 3 belts he now holds as the Triple Crown and All-Japan World Heavyweight Tag Team Champion after he ends Nagata’s impressive nearly 5-month reign as the oldest 55 years old champion.

Impact Wrestling “Impact Down Under” Day 2 Results (7/1/23)

Ganbare Pro wrapped up the build to their annual biggest event of the year today with a house show dubbed “Ghost Hunters 2023”.

Today’s event was held at Takashimadaira Community Center in Tokyo and while it is not yet available on WRESTLE UNIVERSE, a late decision was made to stream it LIVE FOR FREE on YouTube.
