The sad end of an era has finally come as iconic Tokyo venue Shinjuku Face has now closed after 21 1/2 years following its final event today, a CyberFight produced event with participation from several promotions, independent and major.
Today’s event was held at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.
The paid attendance has not been announced but it’s safe to assume it was a legit sellout of 500.
Match 1: Masami Inahata (DDT) & Shota Kofuji (All-Japan) beat Illusion (DDT) & Homare (Dragon Gate). Inahata pinned Illusion after a double-arm suplex.
Match 2: Brahman Kei won a 22 person battle royal, last eliminating Shuji Kondo. Entrants were not announced in advance. Elimination by pinfall, submission or over top rope. Order of elimination: Sanshiro Takagi, Ken Ohka, Cohaku, Minoru Suzuki, Shinsuke Nakamura (WWE-yes, THE Shinsuke Namaura!), Yumi (Yumi Ohka), Yumehito Imanari, Isami Kodaka, ?, Makoto Oishi, Toru Owashi, ? & ? (team), Brahman Shu, Dick Togo, Sakura Hirota, Antonio Honda, Suwama, Kazuki Hirata, Syuri, Shuji Kondo.
Afterwards…
Yuka Ogawa beat DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion Sanshiro Takagi to win the title. Ogawa becomes the 1913th Champion.
Match 3: MAO, Yuki Ueno & Chris Brookes (DDT) beat Dragon Kid (Dragon Gate), Yuma Aoyagi (All-Japan) & Kuroshio TOKYO Japan (Independent/Freelancer). MAO pinned Japan after a 450 splash.
Main Event: Aja Kong (OZ Academy) & Chihiro Hashimoto (Sendai Girls) beat Mayumi Ozaki (OZ Academy) & Sareee (Independent/Freelancer). Kong & Hashimoto won by letting Yuka Ogawa pin Ozaki. This was a comedy brawl everywhere with everyone getting involved. Afterwards, everyone gathered in the ring for the final send-off to the venue, with one final symbolic gesture…
Yuka Ogawa awarded the DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Championship to Shinjuku Face. Shinjuku Face becomes the 1914th Champion. The title belt was left in the ring attached to the ropes. Due to the venue now being closed, DDT announced the title is now VACANT. But a fitting end nonetheless.
MANY THANKS FACE…
