Tokyo Joshi Pro 5/20/23 Results

Tokyo Joshi Pro continued their spring house show tour today with an event in Tokyo, which again underwent late changes due to wrestler absences (between injuries and overseas excursions they are down roughly 1/3 of their roster).

Today’s event was held at Otemachi Mitsui Hall in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

The announced paid attendance was 272.

During opening announcements, Miyu Yamashita vs. Sawyer Wreck was added to SUMMER SUN PRINCESS ’23 on 7/8. Despite being injured, Yuki Arai also appeared to greet fans.

Match 1: Mahiro Kiryu beat Toga.

Match 2: Hyper Misao beat Shino Suzuki by submission.

Match 3: Shoko Nakajima, Suzume & Haru Kazashiro beat Ryo Mizunami, Yoshiko Hasegawa (Ganbare Pro) & Kaya Toribami. Nakajima pinned Toribami with a Northern Lights suplex hold. Mizunami was a late replacement for Rika Tatsumi, who remains out due to the vague “poor physical condition”.

Match 4: Yuki Kamifuku beat HIMAWARI.

Match 5: Yuki Aino, Raku & Pom Harajuku beat Hikari Noa, Nao Kakuta & Wakana Uehara. Raku pinned Uehara after Doctor Yellow.

Main Event: Mizuki & Moka Miyamoto beat Miu Watanabe & Arisu Endo. Mizuki pinned Endo after a diving foot stomp.

The next event is a Hyper Misao Produced event Thursday at Kitazawa Town Hall in Tokyo. There will be no live broadcast.

DEVELOPING: Sumo-Former Ozeki Retires Mid-Tournament (Updated)

It looks like we have another in-tournament retirement in sumo-Nikkan Sports reports Tochinoshin submitted retirement paperwork today to the Japan Sumo Association and has officially withdrawn from the May Tournament, finishing with an 0-6 record. The former Ozeki, originally from the country of Georgia, announced he will not remain in the Association in another role due to apparently not having full Japanese citizenship.

Tochinoshin finishes his career with 6 championships including one Emperor’s Cup, 11 Special Prizes and 2 Gold Star Victories. His final career record is 681-615-106 (win-loss-absent). He was demoted from the top tier after January following a string of losing tournaments and a withdrawal due to injuries. Retirement ceremony plans are pending.

UPDATE: The retirement has been confirmed via the Nihon Sumo Kyokai English website. Final match today is recorded as a loss by default/withdrawal.

Injury Report: 2 DDT Group Wrestlers Out

DDT announced two wrestlers are out of action for the time being today:

First, Rika Tatsumi is off tomorrow’s Tokyo Joshi Pro event. Still dealing with the ever-vague poor physical condition. She was to have been in a 6-woman tag match. Ryo Mizunami is the replacement.

DDT also announced changes for Sunday’s event because KANON is now off. Dislocated left shoulder suffered in practice. Out indefinitely but will be “for a while”. He was to have been in a 6-man tag match, which is now just a tag match.

More as it becomes available.

Impact Wrestling 5/18/23 Results

Here are the quick results from tonight’s Impact Wrestling in Chicago, IL:

This episode was taped during the 4/28-4/29 TV tapings.

The YouTube pre-show match was The Design vs. Johnny Swinger & Zicky Dice.

Match 1: Impact X Division Champion Trey Miguel beat Laredo Kid in a NON-TITLE match.

Miguel stays in the ring through and after commercial claiming he is holding the show hostage until the crowd shows him some respect. This brings out Chris Sabin. He talks down Miguel and sends him off, including hilariously putting himself over as a to-be-9-time champion (which he did say 9 times).

Jai Vidal confronts Trinity about the picture he took with her last week and posted to social media. Trinity tells Vidal that Gisele Shaw can talk to her if there’s a problem. Vidal says Shaw won’t be cleared until next week so Trinity throws down a challenge.

Sami Callihan & Rich Swann promo.

Match 2: Jason Hotch beat Ace Austin.

Steve Maclin recruits Champagne Singh & Shera to do some dirty work.

Jordynne Grace interviewed about what happened to Deonna Purrazzo last week. Alisha Edwards interrupts and claims it’s because of Grace.

Match 3: Trinity (Impact Debut) beat KiLynn King by submission. Great match. Afterwards, Jai Vidal immediately came out with microphone. He has a message from Gisele Shaw-open challenge accepted for Under Siege. Vidal then tries to b*tch slap Shaw but Trinity nicely blocks it and head kicks Vidal out of the ring and it’s now official-Trinity vs. Shaw at Under Siege.

Maclin confronts PCO backstage and the beatdown is on. Note the floor was interestingly lined with cardboard boxes as padding. Maclin uses a sledgehammer to smash cinderblocks on PCO’s back.

The Coven confront Jessicka. They want Rosemary but Jessicka won’t go in. Not until her hourglass is empty…and it’s not yet.

Match 4: Jody Threat beat Sierra. Squash.

Dirty Dango clears Johnny Swinger & Zicky Dice in the Santino Marella attack investigation, but sensing they know who did it triggers a Joe Hendry appearance. They think it was Hendry. Hendry absolutely denies the allegations. He tears Dango’s shirt, which apparently reveals the evidence that Dango did it before laying out Hendry.

Main Event: Jonathan Gresham, Yuya Uemura & Alex Shelley beat Moose, Frankie Kazarian & Eddie Edwards. Shelley pinned Edwards after Shell Shock.

Next week: Rich Swann vs. Angels and Mike Bailey vs. Chris Sabin. Remember this was taped before Bailey went to New Japan for Best Of The Super Junior (where he is doing very well). This is the last episode before Under Siege next Friday live on Impact+, YouTube for Ultimate Insiders and FITE.

Injury Report: GLEAT Wrestler Needs Cooldown

In a press release posted today, GLEAT announced that KAZMA SAKAMOTO is now off their next event on Sunday (5/21). Right thigh inflammation. Out indefinitely but does not appear serious (just needs rest and treatment). He was to have faced Oji Shiiba. No replacement named yet.

More as it becomes available.

Korobayama (S) beat Kotonowaka (K)
Tobizaru (M3) beat Takakeisho (O)
terunofuji (Y) beat Ura (M4)
Leader: 4 at 5-0
Of note: There was some controversy surrounding Tobizaru-Takakeisho as the referee declared Takakeisho the winner in a clearly blown call. Takakeisho was going for an uwatenage (over arm throw) and his arm clearly hit the ground before Tobizaru’s body did. Replays quickly confirmed the obvious overturning by the judges. Nikkan Sports reported afterwards that the referee, who is the chief referee in sumo, offered his resignation to stablemaster Hakkaku, who is also the head of the Japan Sumo Association, following what was his 10th mistaken call since promotion to chief referee in 2019. The offer was declined.
Elsewhere, Daieisho fell from the unbeaten group today after his first loss, leaving 4 at 5-0: Terunofuji, Wakamotoharu, Meisei & Asanoyama. There are two at 0-5, Midorifuji & Endo, but somebody’s 0 has got to go tomorrow because they face each other.
Bushozan, currently 4-1, is the Juryo man up tomorrow and faces Ichiyamamoto.
