Sumo-January 2026 Grand Sumo Tournament Day 1 LIVE Results (1/11/2026) (Top 2 Tiers) (Updated)

Here are the quick LIVE results from today’s Day 1-Opening Day-of the January 2026 Grand Sumo Tournament in Tokyo for the top 2 tiers:
Key: M-Maegashira, K-Komusubi, S-Sekiwake, O-Ozeki, Y-Yokozuna, J-Juryo

Makuuchi (top tier):
Asahakuryu (M17) beat Hatsuyama (M17)
Oshoumi (M16) beat Asanoyama (M16)
Ryuden (M15) beat Asakoryu (M15) by disqualification/judges reversal…HANSOKU!!! Grabbing/pulling hair/topknot by Asakoryu which was clearly caught on replay so although he won it’s overturned. Grabbing or pulling the opponent’s hair or topknot is illegal in sumo
Shishi (M14) beat Mitakeumi (M14)
Tobizaru (M13) beat Tomokaze (M13)
Abi (M12) beat Midorifuji (M12)
Nishikifuji (M11) beat Chiyoshoma (M11)
Tokihayate (M10) beat Kotoshoho (M10)
Roga (M9) beat Gonoyama (M9)
Shodai (M8) beat Kinbozan (M8)
Oshoma (M7) beat Fujinokawa (M7)
Hiradoumi (M6) beat Onokatsu (M6)
Churanoumi (M5) beat Tamawashi (M5)
Daieisho (M4) beat Atamifuji (M4)
Hakunofuji* (M3) beat Oho (K)
Takayasu (S) beat Takanosho (M3)
Kirishima (S) beat Wakatakakage (M2)
Aonishiki (O) beat Ura (M2)
Kotozakura (O) beat Yoshinofuji (M1)
Onosato (Y) beat Ichiyamamoto (M1)
Hoshoryu (Y) beat Wakamotoharu (K)
*-fka Hakuoho before the final Hakuho purge by Isegahama/Terunofuji. All the former Miyagino men had to change to the Fuji-ending names except Enho.

Juryo:
Hakuyozan (J14) beat Kazuma (J14)
Dewanoryu (J13) beat Hidenoumi (J13)
Kyokukaiyu (J12) beat Nishikigi (J12)
Wakanosho (J11) beat Tsurugisho (J11)
Tohakuryu (J10) beat Kazekeno (J10)
Kayo (J9) beat Hitoshi (J9)
Meisei (J8) beat Kitanowaka (J8)
Tochitaikai (J7) beat Asasuiryu (J7)
Nishinoryu (J6) beat Kotokuzan (J6)
Tamashoho (J5) beat Takerufuji (J5)
Sadanoumi (J4) beat Shonannoumi (J4)
Shirokuma (J3) beat Fujiryoga (J3)
Daiseizan (J2) beat Kagayaki (J2)
Fujisieun (J1) beat Kotoeiho (J1)
Of note: That’s just the 3rd career loss for Kazuma today in his Juryo debut, he has 31 wins to date but also 30 absent. Having reportedly just submitted marriage papers today, there are rumors that Tsurugisho will retire if he gets demoted below Juryo, so no pressure.

Lower tier notes: No match today for Enho in Makushita, now the last post-Hakuho hope that wasn’t forced to become a Fuji by Isegahama/Terunofuji. His first match will be tomorrow. As expected, Mita is out this tournament at Ms1 so no promotion chances. Might be back in March.

Side note: For the first time in several years, at least as long as I’ve been regularly watching sumo (early 2020 on), there are no pre-tournament withdrawals in the top 2 tiers. There were injury concerns about Onosato and (last-minute) Hoshoryu but both Yokozuna are in (and although he didn’t use his questionable shoulder, Onosato looked very much like Onosato). It also means a rare instance of the “normal” Day 1 match structure-all wrestlers at or below M4 face the other wrestler at that rank, while M3 & above face Sanyaku or Yokozuna. All Juryo wrestlers will face the other wrestler at their same rank.

How to watch:
All matches across all tiers are streamed live for free on ABEMA, but if you’re not in Japan it’s difficult to get due to geoblocking. It can be done though (need a good VPN). Starts around 5 PM PT/8 PM ET.

NHK in Japan live broadcasts usually begin in the Makushita matches and go all the way through.

NHK World Premium broadcasts all top tier matches in Japanese and English as a simulcast of the NHK version. Available on participating cable/satellite providers and on Jme, a streaming service from NHK which is available in the US and Canada. Jme has monthly & annual subscription plans available, and for new subscribers there is a 5-day free trial. Jme also has a dedicated sumo channel that broadcasts that entire day’s NHK World Premium broadcast in its entirety 4 times daily during the tournament starting at 11 AM PT/2 PM ET (this includes a 30-minute highlight program after the 2 hour replay). Note the Premium/Jme broadcast is subject to one or two brief interruptions during the broadcast for quick news updates.

NHK World Japan will have 50 minutes of live top tier coverage FOR FREE today beginning at 12:10 AM PT/3:10 AM ET and after the matches will replay their “Grand Sumo Highlights” program 4 times daily with all top tier matches in their entirety. NHK World Japan is available with Jme and select cable/satellite providers but is also available FOR FREE online and as a mobile/tablet/smart TV app, which also allows you to watch the Highlights program on demand the day after each day’s matches (later that day US time). After today, further live broadcasts will be on Day 8 (50 minutes), Day 14 (50 minutes) and the Final Day (90 minutes).

The official Japan Sumo Association mobile/tablet app allows you to view real-time results for all matches and watch on demand replays of the top 2 tiers plus select Makushita matches moments after a match finishes. The app is available on Apple & Android devices for free, but for unlimited on demand viewing (and ad-free usage) you need a Premium subscription. In the US this is available in the app for $4.99/month and also provides other benefits such as being able to vote for the wrestler of the day in real-time. You can also watch nearly 15 years of past tournament matches on demand.

UPDATE: Something funny I missed watching live that I caught watching a replay earlier today…after the Ryuden-Asakoryu Mono-ii when the decision was being explained to the crowd, the chief judge making the announcement accidentally called Asakoryu “Asashoryu” at first, which he caught after this got a good laugh from the fans in attendance.

Today’s event was held at Kobe Sambo Hall in Kobe and can be watched on demand on DRAGONGATE NETWORK. You can also watch the first match FOR FREE on YouTube.

The paid attendance has not yet been announced.

There was a last-minute change to the card today because of the announcement that BIGBOSS Shimizu, who has been inactive for most of the last year due to an investigation over potential breach of contract, would make his return today. A planned 6-man tag match became an 8-man tag as a result. Shimizu aligned himself with Natural Vibes for his return and going forward.

The next event is a same-day doubleheader Sunday at Nagoya International Legend Hall in Nagoya. Both events are legit advance sellouts. Live streaming on DRAGONGATE NETWORK will begin Saturday at 8 PM PT/11 PM ET for the first event and Sunday at 1 AM PT/4 AM ET for the second event.

In other news, it was announced that the promotion will return to the USA as part of The Collective 2026 on 4/15 at the Horseshoe Casino & Resort in Las Vegas, NV, part of the now-annual WrestleMania week series of independent events before the WWE flagship event. As perhaps part of this, independent US wrestler Marcus Mathers will make his Dragon Gate debut on 1/18 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and will be part of D’Courage while in Japan. New Japan is also set for The Collective with an El Desperado Produced event.

Injury Report: Maybe this is why that match went just 13 seconds-Shun Skywalker is now off both events tomorrow. Shoulder.

Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling 1/10/2026 LIVE Results

With Ittenyon and their year-opening pre-Tokyo Dome blowout event now behind them, Tokyo Joshi Pro begins their 2026 today with “TJPW New Year Party 2026” in Tokyo. It’s mostly a standard house show but the main event will finish setting what will be the likely main event at GRAND PRINCESS ’26, the biggest event of the year, on 3/29-we already know Princess Of Princess Champion Miu Watanabe will next defend the title then, but a 6-way elimination match today will determine who she defends against. It’s billed as a “survival match” and not a battle royal as there are no over the top rope eliminations. The match has the usual heavy hitter contenders including former champions Miyu Yamashita (who hasn’t held the title in what seems like too long now), Rika Tatsumi & Shoko Nakajima, but also presents the first and best chance so far for Yuki Arai to get a title shot. However, there is a big wild card in the match as Max The Impaler also will take part, admittedly leading to hopes of winning the title then defending first against Pom Harajuku which would be so awesome. And finally there’s, must to my dismay and pending eternal gripes, Mizuki…anyone but her please…

In non-related news, the promotion also has announced the first “official” match for GRAND PRINCESS ’26 aside from the title match-Yuka Sakazaki & Konosuke Takeshita vs. TBA and TBA in what already sounds like a very interesting match. This will be Takeshita’s TJPW debut.

Today’s event will be held at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE and ABEMA (the latter requires the new WRESTLE UNIVERSE live subscription which is 1250 Japanese yen but only includes live broadcasts-no on demand replays as those remain exclusive to the standalone UNIVERSE subscription). There will be no commentary. There are just 6 matches today or a usual house show lineup and although the main event will have no time limit I expect the event to be a “typical” house show with a running time or around, or today a little over, 2 hours.

Today’s lineup (match order TBA):
Yuki Kamifuku, Wakana Uehara, Toga & Mifu Ashida vs. Suzume, Arisu Endo, Uta Takami & Ren Konatsu
Hyper Misao, Mahiro Kiryu & Kira Summer vs. Pom Harajuku, HIMAWARI & Shino Suzuki*
Haru Kazashiro vs. Shion Kanzaki
Raku vs. Kaya Toribami & Chika Nanase in a 3-way
Miu Watanabe & J-Rod vs. Ryo Mizunami & Yuki Aino
Miyu Yamashita vs. Rika Tatsumi, Shoko Nakajima, Yuki Arai, Max The Impaler & Mizuki in a 6-way elimination match for the next Princess Of Princess Championship shot at GRAND PRINCESS ’26. No over the top rope rule

Refresh this page occasionally for the latest results.

Updates below will begin at 6 PM PT/9 PM ET. The live stream is scheduled to begin 15 minutes before the event.

*-This comes with the usual disclaimer because, last I heard, Kiryu is still the DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion, meaning if she is the loser by pinfall or submission she will lose the title, and will probably find a way to quickly win it back to avoid ruining an already announced upcoming title defense against Aja Kong. But that’s why there’s always that “card subject to change” disclaimer, especially with this being a 24/7 championship.

5:45 PM PT UPDATE: The live stream has begun. We should be going to the venue in 10-15 minutes.

5:57 PM PT UPDATE: Live updates begin now.

We are LIVE from Shinjuku Face in Tokyo, Japan. There is no commentary.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. Not sure if it’s the reduced capacity setup or full capacity, which is around 350 and 500, respectively, but based on advance sales and first glance it sounds like the latter. Advance sales seemed to be good so I’ll predict the crowd will be around 400. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 361, a full house/near sellout)

The matches should begin in 10-15 minutes.

The matches begin at 6:11 PM PT?9:11 PM ET.

Match 1: Haru Kazashiro vs. Shion Kanzaki. 15 minute time limit
Result: Haru Kazashiro beat Shion Kanzaki by submission

Match 2: Raku vs. Kaya Toribami & Chika Nanase in a 3-way. 20 minute time limit
Result: Raku beat Kaya Toribami & Chika Nanase in a 3-way by pinning Nanase.

Match 3: Hyper Misao, Mahiro Kiryu & Kira Summer vs. Pom Harajuku, HIMAWARI & Shino Suzuki. 20 minute time limit
Result: Pom Harajuku, HIMAWARI & Shino Suzuki beat Hyper Misao, Mahiro Kiryu & Kira Summer. HIMAWARI pinned Summer. They all tried to win the Iron Man title from Kiryu at the start but thwarted each other.

Match 4: Yuki Kamifuku, Wakana Uehara, Toga & Mifu Ashida vs. Suzume, Arisu Endo, Uta Takami & Ren Konatsu. 20 minute time limit
Result: Yuki Kamifuku, Wakana Uehara, Toga & Mifu Ashida beat Suzume, Arisu Endo, Uta Takami & Ren Konatsu. Toga beat Konatsu.

Match 5: Miu Watanabe & J-Rod vs. Ryo Mizunami (Independent/Freelancer) & Yuki Aino. 20 minute time limit
Result: Time Limit Draw

Main Event: Miyu Yamashita vs. Rika Tatsumi, Shoko Nakajima, Yuki Arai, Max The Impaler & Mizuki in a 6-way elimination match for the next Princess Of Princess Championship shot at GRAND PRINCESS ’26. No over the top rope eliminations. No time limit
Order of elimination: Max by Nakajima (diving senton), Mizuki by Nakajima (Tatsumi Missile Hip) (YES!!!), Nakajima by Tatsumi (Twist Of Fate-missed when it happened), Tatsumi by Yamashita (Crash Rabbit Heat), Yamashita by Arai (Scorpion deathlock)
Result: Yuki Arai wins. As a result, Arai will face Princess Of Princess Champion Miu Watanabe for the title at GRAND PRINCESS ’26. OMG!!! HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!! What a way to start my spring vacation…Arai possibly becoming PoP Champion! It’s hopefully going to happen! Post-match, Watanabe came out for the first faceoff with her next challenger. I love them both but on 3/29…hopefully…Finally!!! Yeah, I’m a little biased and a little excited!

The next event is the opener of the 6th Max Heart Tournament, the promotion’s annual tag team tournament, on 1/17 at Yokohama Radiant Hall in Yokohama. The start time is a little uncertain because it is scheduled to begin on 1/16 at 7 PM PT/10 PM ET, but live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE is scheduled to begin at 6 PM PT/9 PM ET which suggests the start time is/will be moved up an hour.
