Stardom 12/26/24 Results

Stardom ran the final NEW BLOOD event of the year today, the 17th installment of their showcase series for younger & less-experienced wrestlers.

Today’s event was held at New Sun Pier Takeshiba in Tokyo and can be watched on demand FOR FREE on YouTube. You can watch the entire event below (the matches begin at the 11 minute mark):

The paid attendance has not yet been announced. It’s a small venue and wasn’t full capacity but from what I can see at the start it looks like between 150-200. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 215)

Match 1: Cohaku (Sendai Girls) beat Matoi Hamabe.

Match 2: Tomoka Inaba, Hina & Ranna Yagami beat Himiko, Mitsuki Kato & Yuma Makoto (Diana). Hina pinned Makoto.

Match 3: Yuna Mizumori & Tam Nakano beat Sumika Yanagawa & Misa Kami (JTO). Nakano beat Yanagawa.

Match 4: Honoka (WAVE) beat Rian.

Intermission.

Match 5: Saori Anou, Aya Sakura & Sayaka Kurara beat ZONES, ChiChi & Sai (Evolution). Sakura pinned ChiChi after a spinning right head kick.

Main Event: Waka Tsukiyama & HANAKO beat New Blood Tag Team Champions Rina & Azusa Inaba to win the titles. Tsukiyama & HANAKO become the 4th New Blood Tag Team Champions. HANAKO pinned Rina after JP Coaster. Well, that’s one title record Rina won’t take away from big sister Hanan (she eclipsed Hanan’s Future Of Stardom Championship records before losing to Miyu Amasaki a couple months ago, which Stardom promptly cranked out special merchandise to profit off of). Afterwards, the new champs brought all the event’s participants out, including keeping reluctant Rina & Inaba in the ring, for the year-end group photo ops to end the show.

The next event is STARDOM GRAND QUEENDOM 2024, the year-end blowout event, Sunday at Ryogoku Kokugikan. Live streaming as a PPV on Stardom World for 4400 Japanese yen (about $30 US) will begin at midnight PT/3 AM ET. PPV purchase includes unlimited replays until the morning of 1/10/25. It will be available on demand on Stardom World for all monthly paying subscribers on or after 1/11/25. You will also be able to watch the first match FOR FREE on YouTube.

In other news, the 1/3/25 year-opening event will also be a PPV, and it was announced that All Elite Wrestling’s Tay Melo (formerly Tay Conti) will return after a year-plus absence at this event. Melo has been away since she had her first child with her husband, AEW wrestler Sammy Guevara, in November 2023. She had recently been training to prepare for her return, but it not happening in AEW is quite a surprise.

Injury Report: Ultimate Party Pooper

DDT and New Japan have announced a late change to Saturday’s Ultimate Party 2024 event…it’s a bit of a bummer because Great-O-Khan is now off. Lower back and hip/side injuries suffered at Sunday’s New Japan event. He was to have faced DDT Extreme Champion Danshoku Dieno in an unofficial title match, where the result and potential title change would not be recognized. Invisible Man is the replacement and it’s now a NON-TITLE match. No word yet on Khan’s status for Tokyo Dome.

More as it becomes available.

Injury Report: Rascalz Are Not GLEAT (Updated x2)

GLEAT has announced injury changes for their year-end 12/30 event at Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, and it’s rather significant-Trey Miguel, one half of the Rascalz in TNA, is now off the event. Broken finger. As a result, the G INFINITY Championship held by Miguel & Zachary Wentz is now VACANT. They will give up the titles as a result. They were to have defended the titles against T-Hawk & El Lindaman. They will now face TBA to crown new champions, which according to the event poster will be Kuroshio TOKYO Japan & Seigo Tachibana. Wentz will remain on the event and will face a member of the winning team from the first match (Takanori Ito, Issei Onitsuka & CIMA vs. Junjie, JD Lee & Mr. Iguana) in a Into The G-RUSH Rules match (7 minute time limit, 2 count pinfalls and only 2 rope escapes allowed).

UPDATE: Wentz is now off as well. Visa issues. Card changes TBA. The 12/30 winners may not get the actual title belts as with the Rascalz unable to travel to Japan they can’t physically return them yet.

UPDATE 2: The Into The G-RUSH Rules match that Wentz was to have been in will now be CIMA vs. a member of the winning team. As a result, CIMA is now off the first match listed above. Kumaarashi is the replacement.

All-Japan News: Rookie Trainee Released

In a brief statement on their website, All-Japan has announced trainee Sakito Terada has been released by the promotion, stating only that his contract was terminated by mutual agreement. He never got to debut as his first match was postponed due to a concussion. No further details were released.

New Japan 12/23/24 Results (Updated x4)

New Japan wrapped up their 2024 today with the final event of the year and the conclusion of the Road To TOKYO DOME Tour.

Today’s event was held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on New Japan World.

The announced paid attendance was 1509, a legit sellout.

Pre-show match; Hiromu Takahashi beat Katsuya Murashima.

Match 1: Jeff Cobb beat Hartley Jackson (Independent/Freelancer).

Match 2: Kevin Knight & KUSHIDA vs. Kosei Fujita & Robbie Eagles went to a no contest. Drilla Moloney & Clark Connors interference. Then United Empire interference. Which led to…

Match 3: Francesco Akira & TJP vs. Clark Connors & Drilla Moloney went to a no contest in 40 seconds. Chairs used by Bullet Club. Afterwards, Fujita proposed changing the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship 4-way match on 1/4, possibly to either a No DQ or a TLC (Tables, Ladders, Chairs) match. We’ll see.

Match 4; Master Wato, Satoshi Kojima & El Desperado beat TAKA Michinoku, Taichi & DOUKI. Desperado pinned TAKA after Pinche Loco.

Match 5: Tomoaki Honma, Boltin Oleg, Toru Yano, El Phantasmo & Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Sho, Yujiro Takahashi, Ren Narita & EVIL. Phantasmo pinned Takahashi after Thunder Kiss 86. Afterwards, EVIL cut off at least some of Tanahashi’s hair, much to the anger of the crowd.

Match 6; Gedo, SANADA & David Finlay beat BUSHI, Shingo Takagi & Yota Tsuji. Finlay pinned BUSHI after Overkill.

Main Event: Tomohiro Ishii & Shota Umino beat Ryohei Oiwa & Zack Sabre Jr. Umino pinned Oiwa after Death Rider.

2024 has now come to a close for New Japan. And you know what that means…it’s the end, but also the beginning…

The next event is WRESTLE KINGDOM 19, the annual year-opener and the biggest event in all of Japanese pro wrestling and perhaps the biggest in the world outside of WrestleMania, on 1/4 at The Tokyo Dome. Live streaming on New Japan World OUTSIDE JAPAN ONLY will begin at midnight PT/3 AM ET. This will be a live and exclusive TV Asahi broadcast in Japan. (UPDATE: The event will now begin with a pre-show match on 1/3 at 11 PM PT/2 AM ET)

UPDATE 2: Both the 1/4 & 1/5 events will also be available as PPVs on Triller/FITE. Pricing TBA as they are not yet available for pre-order (I’m thinking they’ll be around $30 each with a $50 combo pack that has both). Christmas has come a couple days early for sumo fans as the Japan Sumo Association has just announced the official Banzuke (rankings) for the January 2025 Grand Sumo Tournament. Here are the rankings for the top 2 tiers and some notes/observations:

MakuuchI (top tier):
Yokozuna-Terunofuji
Ozeki-Kotozakura (November Champion), Hoshoryu, Onosato
Sekiwake-Wakamotoharu, Daisieho
Komusubi-Abi, Wakatakakage
Maegashira 1-Takanosho, Kirishima
Maegashira 2-Tobizaru, Atamifuji
Maegashira 3-Gonoyama, Oho
Maegashira 4-Shodai, Ura
Maegashira 5-Hiradoumi, Chiyoshoma
Maegashira 6-Takayasu, Ichiyamamoto
Maegashira 7-Endo, Mitakeumi
Maegashira 8-Roga, Takarafuji
Maegashira 9-Churanoumi, Oshoma
Maegashira 10-Tamawashi, Meisei
Maegashira 11-Midorifuji, Takerufuji
Maegashira 12-NIshikigi, Onokatsu
Maegashira 13-Shonannoumi, Kotoshoho
Maegashira 14-Hokutofuji, Kinbozan (November Juryo Champion)
Maegashira 15-Hakuoho, Kitanowaka
Maegashira 16-Tamashoho, Kagayaki
Maegashira 17-NIshikifuji, Tokihayate

Juryo:
Juryo 1-Sadanoumi, Kayo
Juryo 2-Shiden, Asakoryu
Juryo 3-Ryuden, Tsurugisho
Juryo 4-Shirokuma, Shishi
Juryo 5-Shimanoumi, Aonishiki
Juryo 6-Hidenoumi, Tomokaze
Juryo 7-Tochitaikai, Bushozan
Juryo 8-Fujiseiun, Mitoryu
Juryo 9-Daiseizan, Oshoumi
Juryo 10-Shimazuumi, Hakuyozan
Juryo 11-Daiamami, Tohakuryu
Juryo 12-Hatsuyama, Kiryuko
Juryo 13-Wakaikari, Kotoeiho
Juryo 14-Nabatame, Daishoho

Notes:
In the top tier, 2 of the 3 Ozeki are on Yokozuna Watch as if either Kotozakura or Hoshoryu can win the championship, ideally with at least 13 wins, or finish with that many wins or more, one or both have a chance to be promoted for March. The Sekiwake this time, Wakamotoharu & Daieisho, both would have to win the championship to have any chance at promotion to Ozeki. Still no word yet on Terunofuji’s status for January, he has been on parts of the December tour as I’ve seen from YouTube videos but the feeling is that if all goes as planned, he’ll compete. Wakatakakage returns to Sanyaku for the first time since being injured in the March 2023 Tournament, coming in on 7 straight winning records and his worst performance since returning to Juryo has been 9-6. Abi returns to Komusubi after 11 wins in September following a 4-tournament winning run being snapped. Kirishima falls out of Sanyaku for the first time since summer 2022, down to M1. blowing another chance at an Ozeki return with a 6-9 November while Takanosho almost makes it back after a bounceback November following a disastrous September just after a July playoff title loss. Up one rank to M10, Tamawashi’s Iron Man Streak should reach 1674 by the end of the tournament as he’s held steady in the middle of the rankings. The bottom is filled out by a number of returns as Kitanowaka, Hakuoho, Tamashoho, Kagayaki and Juryo Champion Kinbozan all are promoted up from Juryo while Nishikifuji & Tokihayate hang on to the last spots after there were 5 demotions to Juryo.
The Juryo demotions were Sadanoumi, Asakoryu, Ryuden, Shishi & Bushozan, the last one of which was injured during November. Shishi could very well be about to be usurped as the Ukraine-born fan favorite by Aonishiki, whose fast rise up the ranks has taken him to J5 after a 10-5 debut, putting the top tier within reach if he can duplicate or improve on that effort. The Shin-Juryo Hatsuyama will make his second tier debut from J12 alongside Sai-Juryo Kiryuko, with Nabatame back up at J14.

Lower tier notes:
Because the rankings were determined before his retirement last week, Onosho is ranked at Makushita 3 but of course won’t compete and this tournament won’t go on his final record. He has left sumo completely because there was no elder stock for him even though he qualified, and will be going to work for a skin care company in a corporate role. Fast-rising Isegahama prospect Kusano has Ms3 all to himself, while Wakanosho & Kazekeno have the Ms1 ranks. Asanoyama is down at Ms41 and is considered questionable for January as he continues recovery from a foot/ankle injury (worst-case seems to be a March return). Below that, another 6-1 effort was not quite enough to get Enho out of the Sandanme, he will be at Sd4 this time and, in a surprise development, the Sandanme has shrunk down to just 80 ranks. A year or so ago it went down from 100 to 90 and now 90 to 80 amidst concerns about the thinning ranks of pro sumo wrestlers. The Jonidan grew slightly and is back up to 100 ranks this time, while the Jonokuchi has 19 ranks with 37 total entrants including what looks like at least 7 debuts. We’ve also learned from YouTube reporter Chris Sumo that come March or May we’ll probably have another new Makushita 60 debut.

The January Tournament runs from 1/12-1/26 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo. Tickets have just sold out right before this post went up.

12/26/24 UPDATE: Kyokutaisei, a former top tier wrestler trying to rise back up the ranks, has retired. He fell all the way to Jonokuchi after a major knee injury and got as high as Makushita before falling back to the Sandanme this time (he would have been Sd20). His career best rank was M8, with a final record of 483-434-80 and one Special Price. He spent 38 tournaments in the top 2 tiers which would qualify him for elder stock but it doesn’t appear he can cash it in due to lack of availability.

Today’s event was held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on New Japan World. This was also a free live simulcast on ABEMA in Japan.

The announced paid attendance was 1420, a full house/near sellout.

Pre-show match: Hiromu Takahashi beat Shoma Kato.

Match 1: Satoshi Kojima beat Boltin Oleg. This was to have been Kojima & Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Oleg & Toru Yano, but Tenzan was a last-minute removal from the event due to a fever. Yano was also removed as a result.

Match 2; Yujiro Takahashi & Ren Narita beat Jacob Austin Young & Jeff Cobb and Hartley Jackson & Ryohei Oiwa in a 3-way when Narita pinned Young. After the match, El Phantasmo, who has been away from the promotion due to treatment for cancer, appeared and announced he will return tomorrow, and also issued a NJPW WORLD TV Championship challenge. As a result, the 3-way for the title on 1/4 at the Tokyo Dome is now a 4-way.

Match 3: Master Wato & El Desperado beat TAKA Michinoku & DOUKI. Desperado beat TAKA with Numero Dos.

Match 4: Robbie Eagles beat Kevin Knight, Francesco Akira & Drilla Moloney in a 4-way by pinning Moloney.

Match 6; Kosei Fujita & Zack Sabre Jr. beat Hiroshi Tanahashi & Shota Umino. Sabre pinned Tanahashi after Zack Driver.

Main Event: In a 3 Falls 3 Years Of KOPW Culmination Match, KOPW 2024 Champion Great-O-Khan vs. Taichi ended in a DRAW. 1-1-1. As a result, Khan retains the title. Fall 1, a No Ropes Push Out Match, was won by Taichi. Fall 2, with Yoshinobu Kanemaru as special referee, was won by Khan. Fall 3, a Last Man Standing Anywhere Match )originally a Last Man Standing Lumberjack Death Match), ended in a Double KO. Khan will be the final KOPW 2024 Champion as it will reset and start over for 2025.

The next event, and the final event of the year, is tomorrow. Live streaming on New Japan World will begin at 1:30 AM PT/4:30 AM ET.

Stardom 12/22/24 LIVE Results (Updated x2)

Stardom finishes up their weekend tripleheader today in Tokyo, headlined by the last 4-way match that will fill out the International Women’s Cup 4-way match at WRESTLE DYNASTY on 1/5 at the Tokyo Dome. The winner today will represent Stardom against All Elite Wrestling, Ring Of Honor & CMLL and, based on the participants, I would call anyone but Syuri winning an upset as she’s up against Suzu Suzuki, Tomoka Inaba & Momo Watanabe. Anyone could win of course but I don’t see any of them beating Syuri, although Watanabe is the wild card because of potential H.A.T.E. interference. Also, after returning yesterday, Thekla apparently had her 3 week suspension lifted a couple days early as it was to go through today but she is on the card.

Today’s event will be held at Tama Mirai Messe in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on Stardom World (the new relaunch mainly was a re-do of the website and the video archives with no real changes to streaming and still some issues present from before, albeit minor ones). There will be no commentary. The 4-way will have no time limit and there are 7 matches total, yesterday’s event ran a big longer than I predicted so today I’ll guess the event’s running time will be about 2 1/4 hours.

Today’s lineup (match order TBA):
Yuna Mizumori vs. Rian
AZM vs. Waka Tsukiyama & Aya Sakura in a 3-way
Mayu Iwatani, Hazuki & Koguma vs. Saki Kashima, Hina & Ranna Yagami
Hanan, Saya Iida & Matoi Hamabe vs. Konami, Rina & Thekla
Natsupoi, Sayaka Kurara & Momo Kohgo vs. Mei Seira, Starlight Kid & Miyu Amasaki
Tam Nakano, Saori Anou & Maika vs. Natsuko Tora, Saya Kamitani & Ruaka
International Women’s Cup Qualifier: Syuri vs. Suzu Suzuki, Tomoka Inaba & Momo Watanabe in a 4-way

Refresh this page occasionally for the latest results.

Updates below will begin at 8 PM PT/11 PM ET.

6:40 PM PT UPDATE: There has been a last-minute change to today’s event-AZM is now off. The always-vague poor health. The 3-way is now a single match (Tsukiyama vs. Sakura)

7:50 PM PT UPDATE: The live stream has begun. Updates will begin in a few minutes.

8 PM PT UPDATE: Live updates begin now.

We are LIVE from Tama Mirai Messe in Tokyo, Japan. There is no commentary.

The paid attendance will be announced sometime tomorrow. Looks like a similar setup to Tokyo Joshi Pro yesterday and mostly full from what I can see. That has me thinking it’ll be around 400. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 489)

Today’s lineup rundown opens the event. The 4-way International Women’s Cup Qualifier is today’s main event.

The matches begin at 8:05 PM PT/11:05 PM ET.

Result: Yuna Mizumori beat Rian by submission

Match 4: Hanan, Saya Iida & Matoi Hamabe vs. Konami, Rina & Thekla. 20 minute time limit
Result: Konami, Rina & Thekla beat Hanan, Saya Iida & Matoi Hamabe. Thekla pinned Hanan after Poisonous Spider Drop. Thekla continued to beat down Hanan afterwards and Konami prevented Iida from making the save.

Match 5: Natsupoi, Sayaka Kurara & Momo Kohgo vs. Mei Seira, Starlight Kid & Miyu Amasaki. 20 minute time limit
Result: Mei Seira, Starlight Kid & Miyu Amasaki beat Natsupoi, Sayaka Kurara & Momo Kohgo. Seira pinned Kohgo after a sitout powerbomb.

Intermission.

The matches resume at 9:50 PM PT (5 minute break).

Match 6: Tam Nakano, Saori Anou & Maika vs. Natsuko Tora, Saya Kamitani & Ruaka. 30 minute time limit
Result: Tam Nakano, Saori Anou & Maika beat Natsuko Tora, Saya Kamitani & Ruaka. Maika pinned Ruaka after Michinoku Driver 2. Afterwards, Maika stopped to interact with several young children in the crowd and send them home very happy.

Main Event: International Women’s Cup Qualifier: Syuri vs. Suzu Suzuki, Tomoka Inaba & Momo Watanabe in a 4-way. No time limit

Pro Wrestling NOAH 12/22/24 LIVE Results

Pro Wrestling NOAH wraps up their 2024 today with another LIMIT BREAK ex. event. Like other events in the series, it will mostly focus on crossover matches with other promotions, in particular the ZERO1/REAL ZERO1 promotion. Today’s event will be held at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. There will be no commentary. There are 6 matches and none will probably have more than a 30 minute time limit, including the title match, so I anticipate the event’s total running time being around 2 hours.

Today’s lineup:
Yu Owada vs. Satsuki Nagao
The Reeve Masks 1 & 2 vs. Tomomitsu Matsunaga & Black Menso-re
Hajime Ohara, Shuhei Taniguchi & Kohei Kinoshita vs. Masato Tanaka, Takuya Sugawara & Yoshikazu Yokoyama

6:55 PM PT UPDATE: Live updates begin now.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. The crowd is sitll filing in and it’s probably the normal smaller-capacity setup (the venue’s normal max capacity is 600), with other events happening now around Tokyo plus seeing a number of empty ringside seats I’ll guess the number will be around 250. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 243)
