Sumo-November 2024 Grand Sumo Tournament Day 15 Results (Final Day) (11/24/24)

Here are the quick results from today’s Day 15-the Final Day-of the November 2024 Grand Sumo Tournament in Fukuoka:
Key: M-Maegashira, K-Komusubi, S-Sekiwake, O-Ozeki, J-Juryo, Ms-Makushita, Sd-Sandanme, Jd-Jonidan, Jk-Jonokuchi

Bushozan (M17) beat Ryuden (M13)
Asakoryu (M17) beat Meisei (M11)
Takerufuji (M15) beat Tamawashi (M10)
Shishi (M16) beat Takarafuji (M10)
Ichiyamamoto (M10) beat Sadanoumi (M12)
Hokutofuji (M12) beat Takayasu (M9)
Midorifuji (M9) beat Onokatsu (M15)
Roga (M8) beat Tokihayate (M15)
Endo (M7) beat Nishikifuji (M14)
Tobizaru (M5) beat Shonannoumi (M13)
Atamifuji (M3) beat Mitakeumi (M7)
Gonoyama (M8) beat Abi (M3)
Chiyoshoma (M14) beat Ura (M2)
Takanosho (M6) beat Wakatakakage (M2)
Hiradoumi (M1) beat Churanoumi (M4)
Oho (M1) beat Nishikigi (M6)
Oshoma (M4) beat Shodai (K)
Wakamotoharu (K) beat Daieisho (S)
Onosato (O) beat Kirishima (S)
Kotozakura (O) beat Hoshoryu (O). KOTOZAKURA YUSHO!!! The first career Emperor’s Cup for Kotozakura!
CHAMPION: Kotozakura (14-1)
Final thoughts: After that long-awaited first championship that he just missed in a July playoff, Kotozakura will now be in Yokozuna contention if he can repeat the feat in January, but so will Hoshoryu after a 13-2 tournament. Of course the unanswered question is if the Final Boss will return for one last stand and perhaps a ceremonial torch-passing if all goes as hoped for-that of course would be Terunofuji, who is expected to compete. As for the new Ozeki, Onosato struggled in the second half but won today to finish his debut at 9-6, still protecting his rank while keeping his career winning streak going, 10 tournaments so far with 10 winning records. Kirishima will be demoted from Sekiwake which should open the door for Wakamotoharu to return to the rank while Daieisho stays Sekiwake. Komusubi will be a tossup with Shodai being demoted which should allow Wakatakakage & Abi to be promoted to be promoted to the rank.

SPECIAL PRIZES:
Outstanding Performance (best record with most wins vs. Yukozuna & Ozeki): Abi
Fighting Spirit (best record with best display of fighting spirit): Takanosho
Technique (best display of technique/most different winning techniques): Wakatakakage

Juryo:
Kamito (Ms3) beat Chiyomaru (J11)
Oshoumi (J14) beat Hidenoumi (J7)
Shiden (J6) beat Tochitaikai (J12)
Fujiseiun (J10) beat Tohakuryu (J6)
Tomokaze (J5) beat Daiseizan (J12)
Shimazuumi (J5) beat Daishoho (J9)
Shimanoumi (J4) beat Hakuyozan (J8)
Tamashoho (J4) beat Nabatame (J14)
Kayo (J3) beat Kotoeiho (J13)
Shirokuma (J3) beat Daiamami (J9)
Hakuoho (J2) beat Wakaikari (J13)
Kagayaki (J2) beat Mitoryu (J7)
Kinbozan (J1) beat Aonishiki (J11). KINBOZAN JURYO YUSHO!!! 1st career Juryo Championship and 3rd overall
Kitanowaka (J1) beat Tsurugisho (J7)
CHAMPION: Kinbozan (12-3)
Of note: Kinbozan’s win prevented what would have been a playoff rematch with Aonishiki after Tsurugisho lost to finish 10-5. Oshoumi also finishes with the equivalent of that record and it can be argued the only reason he perhaps didn’t win the championship, or at least force a playoff, was due to missing 3 days with a left shoulder injury.

Jonidan:
Playoff: NIshikikuni (Jd9) beat Nakashima (Jd57). NISHIKIKUNI JONIDAN YUSHO!!! First career championship. Side note: September Jonokuchi champion Goseizan may have won the championship or had a chance if he hadn’t missed the first 2 days of the tournament and thus started the equivalent of 0-2, once he entered he went 5-0.

TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS:
Makuuchi: Kotozakura (O). 1st career Emperor’s Cup, 3rd overall championship
Juryo: Kinbozan (J1). 1st career Juryo, 3rd overall championship
Makushita: Osanai (Ms48). 1st career Makushita, 2nd overall championship
Sandanme: Fujitoshi (Sd18). 1st career Sandanme and 1st overall championship
Jonidan: Nishikikuni (Jd9). 1st career Jonidan and 1st overall championship
Jonokuchi: Gonoumi (Jk12). 1st career Jonokuchi and 1st overall championship

The next tournament is the January 2025 Tournament scheduled from 1/12-1/26 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo. Tickets go on sale 12/7. The Banzuke will be announced on 12/23. A final wrap-up post with thoughts, rankings notes and breaking news will come next weekend.

Sumo-November 2024 Grand Sumo Tournament Day 14 Results (11/23/24) (Top 2 Tiers) (Updated)

Here are the quick results from today’s Day 14-the penultimate day-of the November 2024 Grand Sumo Tournament in Fukuoka:
Key: M-Maegashira, K-Komusubi, S-Sekiwake, O-Ozeki, J-Juryo, Ms-Makushita

Makuuchi (top tier):
Kinbozan (J1) beat Tokihayate (M15)
Hokutofuji (M12) beat Asakoryu (M17)
Bushozan (M17) beat Tamawashi (M11)
Meisei (M11) beat Shonannoumi (M13)
Takerufuji (M10) beat Ichiyamamoto (M16)
Chiyoshoma (M14) beat Takarafuji (M10)
Shishi (M16) beat Midorifuji (M9)
Onokatsu (M15) beat Takayasu (M9)
Nishikifuji (M14) beat Roga (M8)
Ryuden (M13) beat Endo (M7)
Nishikigi (M6) beat Sadanoumi (M12)
Tobizaru (M5) beat Mitakeumi (M7)
Abi (M3) beat Atamifuji (M3)
Wakatakakage (M2) beat Ura (M2)
Oho (M1) beat Kotoshoho (M5) by default/withdrawal
Hiradoumi (M1) beat Oshoma (M4)
Wakamotoharu (K) beat Gonoyama (M8)
Churanoumi (M4) beat Shodai (K)
Daieisho (S) beat Takanosho (M4)
Kotozakura (O) beat Onosato (O)
Hoshoryu (O) beat Kirishima (S)
Leader: Kotozakura, Hoshoryu (13-1)
WITHDRAWAL: Kotoshoho (M5). Left foot/toe. Out about 2 months. That would mean questionable for January, which after a 3-12 tournament this time would see him demoted to Juryo if he can’t compete. Oho got the fusen as a result.
Of note: It’s winner-take all tomorrow in the final match as one of the two Ozeki will win the championship. It would be the first long-awaited title for Kotozakura or the second for Hoshoryu and it will mean Yokozuna Watch in January as 14 will be the champion’s win total. Hoshoryu sent a clear message by effortlessly lifting Kirishima out of the ring to win easily, and also perhaps lifting Wakamotoharu back up to Sekiwake as he’s promoted and Kirishima will be demoted. Kotozakura beat Onosato as the new Ozeki continues to struggle late at now 8-6, but his rank is already safe. Elsewhere, an odd occurrence as Shodai lost by a rare non-winning technique, koshikudake or inadvertent collapse. It appears his right foot slipped although it looked like it suddenly gave way, thankfully it does not appear to be an injury. Also, surprised there wasn’t a review of Takerufuji-Ichiyamamoto, it looked too close to call at the end and a replay may have overturned the result. Isegahama bias?

Juryo:
Hatsuyama (Ms1) beat Nabatame (J14)
Kiryuko (Ms2) beat Kotoeiho (J13)
Daiseizan (J12) beat Fujiseiun (J10)
Hakuyozan (J8) beat Chiyomaru (J11)
Tohakuryu (J6) beat Daishoho (J9)
Shimazuumi (J5) beat Wakaikari (J13)
Tochitaikai (J12) beat Tomokaze (J5)
Tamashoho (J4) beat Oshoumi (J14)
Aonishiki (J11) beat Shimanoumi (J4)
Shiden (J6) beat Shirokuma (J3)
Kayo (J3) beat Daiamami (J9)
Kagayaki (J2) beat Tsurugisho (J7)
Hakuoho (J2) beat Mitoryu (J7)
Hidenoumi (J7) beat Kitanowaka (J1)
Leader: Kinbozan (11-3)
Of note: Now Oshoumi is officially out of it. He returned from injury in time to mathematically still have a chance to win the championship despite missing 3 days, but today’s loss ended those chances. Kinbozan just has to win tomorrow (Aonishiki) to win the championship, but if Aonishiki wins there will be a playoff rematch, and it could be a 3-way playoff if Tsurugisho wins (Kitanowaka). Hakuoho probably clinched promotion back to the top tier today with his 9th win, but a 10th tomorrow makes it definite, while Kagayaki has a chance too but probably needs a 9th win tomorrow. The Makushita men up today should be promoted to Juryo in January as both will finish 5-2, Hatsuyama definitely is coming up for his Juryo debut while Kiryuko should be back after making his Juryo debut in September. I don’t see any other Makushita promotions happening as all the other top 5 ranks are either being demoted or only went 4-3, which likely won’t do it but there could be 2 more Juryo demotions tomorrow along with Chiyomaru if both Nabatame & Wakaikari lose as they are 7-7 at J14 & J13, respectively. Onosho will also be demoted too.

Reminder: NHK World Japan will have 90 minutes of LIVE top tier coverage tomorrow in English FOR FREE, including the Ozeki Championship Showdown, awards ceremony and champion’s interview, beginning TONIGHT at 11:30 PM PT/2:30 AM ET.

UPDATE: The Special Prizes have been announced ahead of the Final Day:
Outstanding Performance: Abi
Fighting Spirit: Takanosho (if he wins his final match)
Technique: Wakatakakage

Sunday’s event was held at Nishitetsu Hall in Fukuoka and can be watched on demand on YouTube.

The announced paid attendance was 271.

Match 1; Ryuchi Kawakami & Chris Weiss beat Issei Onitsuka & Ryo Aitaka. Weiss pinned Onitsuka after a package piledriver.

Match 2; Tetsuya Izuchi & Kotaro Suzuki beat Minoru Tanaka & Chris Ridgeway. Izuchi pinned Tanaka after Killzone.

Match 4: In a Lumberjack Whipping Match, MICHIKO beat Brass Knuckles JUN.

Match 5: Kaito Ishida & So Daimonji beat Parker & Macy Boudreaux. Daimonji pinned Macy Boudreaux after Black Rain.

Main Event: Lidet UWF Double Bout: Katsuhiko Nakajima & Yu Iizuka beat Takanori Ito & El Lindaman by TKO. Nakajima beat Ito with Northern Lights Bomb. Afterwards, Tetsuya Izuchi attacked Nakajima and demanded a Lidet UWF Championship fight. No word on when/if that will happen.

The next event is a GLEAT House Show tomorrow at Yokohama Radiant Hall in Yokohama. There will be no live or on demand broadcast (no YouTube at all this time).
Injury Report: The promotion has announced KAZMA SAKAMOTO is now off tomorrow’s event. Fever. He was apparently to have been in the main event, an 8-man tag. It appears Kumaarashi is the replacement.

It also has been announced that the next event after this, a GLEAT House Show on 12/14 in Kyoto, also will have no live or on demand broadcast on YouTube. After that is Osaka on 12/15 (Umesa Stellar Hall) so no live broadcast there, so the next live broadcast may be the major year-ender on 12/30 at Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo.

DDT Pro Wrestling “Get Alive 2024” LIVE Results (11/23/24)

DDT runs their monthly signature tour-ender event in Tokyo today, Get Alive 2024. There have been big shakeups to the card since yesterday because of the announcement that the KO-D Tag Team Championship, which was to have been defended today, is now VACANT due to a Shunma Katsumata injury that will keep him out for months. No word on plans to crown new champions yet. Instead of Katsumata & MAO defending the titles against Tetsuya Endo & Yuya Koroku, it’s now MAO, Yuki Ueno & To-y vs. Endo, Koroku & Yuki Iino. And earlier today came word that Yusuke Okada is retiring immediately due to the effects of treatment for cancer-he is in remission and doing well but physically is not in a good enough condition to continue wrestling. He will appear today to address fans. As for the event itself, the headliner is a DDT Extreme Championship match where Danshoku Dieno defends against Yuni, originally planned to feature the DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Championship in a double title match but, as is often the case with that 24/7 Iron Man title, plans change. And they changed many times. And they could change yet again. As always the Extreme Championship rules are wacky-there will be a ‘Cinderella Time” period or periods during the match. During those times, if Dieno does any of his usual shenanigans (NSFW stuff), he is DQ’d. When Cinderella Time is not in effect, it’s a No DQ match. Also, Kazuki Hirata is celebrating his birthday with a wacky 1 vs. 6 Handicap Match that will be all about DDT comedy…all you need to know is Yoshihiko is involved so it’s must-see.
Also, after the event is over the full card for ULTIMATE PARTY 2024 on 12/28 at Ryogoku Kokugikan will be announced.

Today’s event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese. Raira (?) Ikeda, who appears to be a member of a comedy group, will be a special guest on commentary. There are 2 title matches scheduled out of 7 total but in spite of those I anticipate this being a “normal” Korakuen event with a total running time of around 2 1/2 hours.

Today’s lineup:
Demus & Illusion vs. Munetatsu Nakamura & Kazuma Sumi
Kazuki Hirata vs. Toru Owashi, Takao Soma, Diego, Antonio Honda, Yuki Ishida & Yoshihiko in a handicap match
Jun Akiyama, Shinya Aoki & Keigo Nakamura vs. HARASHIMA, Yukio Naya & Tomomitsu Matsunaga
Akito 15th Anniversary Match: Akito vs. Isami Kodaka
Yuki Ueno, MAO & To-y vs. Yuki Iino, Tetsuya Endo & Yuya Koroku
DDT Extreme Champion Danshoku Dieno vs. Yuni in a “You’re still a Cinderella even climbing the path to Adulthood Deathmatch” for the title. No DQ except during “Cinderella Time”, in that time Dieno is DQ’d if he does any of his usual shenanigans
KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Champions Daisuke Sasaki, MJ Paul & KANON vs. Chris Brookes, Masa Takanashi & Takeshi Masada for the titles
12/28 Full Card Announcement

Refresh this page occasionally for the latest results.

Updates below will begin at 6:30 PM PT/9:30 PM ET. The live stream is scheduled to begin at 6 PM PT/9 PM ET.

6 PM PT UPDATE: The live stream has begun. We should go to the venue in 20-25 minutes.

6:18 PM PT UPDATE: Live updates begin now.

We are LIVE from Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Your hosts are Haruo Murata, Kagehiro Osano & special guest Layla Ikeda. We will likely be joined later for a time by Satoshi Dairaku.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. The crowd will still be filing in over the next 15-20 minutes but it’s pretty light so far with the usual smaller Korakuen setup. I’m gonna guess on the low side for now with a prediction of 700-750. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 984, a full house/near sellout. Sure didn’t look like it or sound like it until the very end. I think this is inaccurate and over-reported)

The matches should begin in about 20 minutes.

The matches begin at 6:33 PM PT/9:33 PM ET. Your host to start is Satoshi Dairaku. Haruo Murata will return later.

Match 1: Demus & Illusion vs. Munetatsu Nakamura & Kazuma Sumi. 30 minute time limit
Result: Demus & Illusion beat Munetatsu Nakamura & Kazuma Sumi. Demus pinned Sumi.

Match 2: Kazuki Hirata vs. Toru Owashi, Takao Soma, Diego, Antonio Honda, Yuki Ishida & Yoshihiko in a handicap match. 30 minute time limit. At least that was the plan but Hirata laid out Ishida backstage…and apparently won the Iron Man Title back from Yuki Ueno after that recent fishing expedition where he lost it…
Result: Toru Owashi, Takao Soma, Diego, Antonio Honda, Yuki Ishida & Yoshihiko beat Kazuki Hirata, with Yoshihiko pinning Hirata to win the DDT Iron man Heavymetalweight Championship. Yoshihiko becomes (I think) the 1670th Champion. With a little help from Yuki Ueno interfering. Afterwards, Hirata with microphone hilariously still in post-pinfall position. He apparently tried to turn heel for this, his birthday celebration match, but hilariously failed. As Hirata finished his music didn’t play and instead someone wearing a Kabuki mask came out. Things soon back to normal but the mystery man interrupted Hirata’s dancing with quite the impressive breakdancing moves. Not sure who it was but it could be the new guy who will debut on 12/28, apparently against Hirata. I think he’s a musician/entertainer much like Kaisei Takechi.

Quick break for the opening announcements with GM Imabayashi. Shunma Katsumata joins him in the ring. He briefly greets the fans before the announcements, then Sanshiro Takagi is brought out to address the fans. He will have a 30th Anniversary match on 2/3 at Shinjuku Face. He also announces the first match for the event-Toru Owashi & Dump Matsumoto vs. Brahmans Shu & Kei. And then the dates for their next US evnets in Las Vegas, NV-DDT on 4/18 and a DDT/Tokyo Joshi Pro/Game Changer Wrestling joint event on 4/19. This is just before WWE WrestleMania 41 in Vegas. Although it’s only an hour flight away for me I have a trip to Japan coming up around that time. After this Yusuke Okada comes out to greet the fans following his announcing his retirement earlier today as he continues treatment for cancer. He was very emotional and his voice was cracking badly at times because of it. They gave him the customary final announcement send-off and playing of his entrance theme one more time. Reportedly his cancer is in remission so let’s hope that continues and he successfully beats it like others before him managed to. Most of the roster came out to offer well-wishes and give him a nice sendoff, including Saki Akai, who retired last year but remains in DDT in a corporate/backstage role. After this, Katsumata returned to the ring with Kazuma Sumi & Yuni to announce a new music CD from the promotion coming out on 12/28.

And now back to your regularly scheduled DDT with…

Match 3: Jun Akiyama, Shinya Aoki & Keigo Nakamura vs. HARASHIMA, Yukio Naya & Tomomitsu Matsunaga. 30 minute time limit
Result; Jun Akiyama, Shinya Aoki & Keigo Nakamura beat HARASHIMA, Yukio Naya & Tomomitsu Matsunaga. Aoki pinned Matsunaga. Afterwards, everyone had to try and keep Naya & Akiyama separated. When they left, Aoki with microphone. His voice is so shot it’s hard to understand but I thought he said KO…hold up…Kenoh in the house! He grabbed a chair from the seating and tried to throw it into the ring. Kenoh with microphone. Sounds like he wants a match and from what I could understand from Aoki I heard him say Ryogoku…12/28 match perhaps? Baka Survivor vs. The Fist King?!? Kenoh then brings over fellow NOAH wrestler Yu Owada, who came over with him. And we’ve got an impromptu match! Which led to..
Impromptu Match: Shinya Aoki beat Yu Owada in 11 seconds. Kenoh then hit the ring again but Keigo Nakamura got between them with microphone. He attacked Kenoh which triggered a brawl between all 4. Aoki apparently extended the challenge to make it a tag match of himself & Nakamura vs. Kenoh & Owada. We’ll see what happens!

Your host is Haruo Murata once again.

Match 4: Akito 15th Anniversary Match: Akito vs. Isami Kodaka (BASARA). 30 minute time limit
Result: Isami Kodaka beat Akito

Match 5: Yuki Ueno, MAO & To-y vs. Yuki Iino, Tetsuya Endo & Yuya Koroku. 30 minute time limit

Tokyo Joshi Pro 11/22/24 Results

Tokyo Joshi Pro continued their fall house show tour today in Tokyo.

Today’s event was held at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo (DDT’s results page incorrectly says Korakuen Hall) and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

The announced paid attendance was 429, a super full house/very near sellout.

In the opening announcements, it was announced that all 3 of the signature events next year-GRAND PRINCESS, SUMMER SUN PRINCESS, WRESTLE PRINCESS 6-will all be at Ota City General Gym in Tokyo. They will be on 3/16, 7/21 and 9/20, respectively. GRAND PRINCESS had been held at Ryogoku Kokugikan in each year of its existence, which started during the pandemic.

Match 1; HIMAWARI, Shino Suzuki & Uta Takami beat Wakana Uehara, Kira Summer & Chika Nanase. HIMAWARI beat Nanase with a single leg Boston crab.

Match 2; Pom Harajuku beat Mahiro Kiryu & Neko Haruna in a 3-way by pinning both simultaneously.

Match 3: Zara Zakher & Yuki Aino beat Mizuki & Kaya Toribami. Zakher pinned Toribami after Control Z.

Match 4: Miu Watanabe, Raku, Suzume & Moka Miyamoto beat Miyu Yamashita, Maki Itoh, Yuki Kamifuku & Yoshiko Hasegawa. Suzume pinned Hasegawa after Ring A Bell.

Match 5: Hyper Misao Return Match: Rika Tatsumi & Arisu Endo beat Hyper Misao & Shoko Nakajima. Tatsumi beat Misao with White Dragon Sleeper.

Match 6: NEXGENE Tournament ’24 Finals: Haru Kazashiro beat Toga to win the tournament. As a result, Kazashiro gets a future title shot of her choice…and immediately chose Princess Tag Team Championship with Toga as her partner. That match will happen on 12/1 at Club eX in Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo. The result definitely is an upset in my book as I had Toga winning it all.

Main Event: International Princess Champion Yuki Arai beat Shazza McKenzie to retain the title. V6 for Arai. Next up: Suzume. That match will happen at the year-opening event on 1/4 at Korakuen Hall, the traditional Tokyo Dome appetizer. This also means that, if she holds the title until then, Arai will also have the longest reign to date as 1/4 would be exactly one year.

The next event is “TJPW 11th BIRTHDAY” on 12/1 at Club eX in Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin on 11/30 at 6:30 PM PT/9:30 PM ET.

In other news, while the field for the upcoming Futari-wa Princess Max Heart Tournament in early 2025 isn’t yet set, the promotion confirmed Arai will not be part of it next year. When her January & February participation schedule was announced earlier this week it was reported she will not compete on 2/8 at Korakuen, which will be the Finals, due to schedule conflicts (likely with SKE48). She will participate on 1/4, 1/18 (Club eX), 1/25 (Shinjuku Face) and 2/22 (Ryogoku KFC Hall). But as always, her schedules are subject to change.
