New Japan News: G1 CLIMAX 35 Field Set (Updated)

The Road To Tokyo Dome is officially underway as New Japan has announced the field for the 35th G1 CLIMAX Tournament, their biggest tournament of the year. This year will be a field of 20 split into 2 blocks, with a play-in tournament determining the last 4 of those 20.

The 16 already in are as follows:
Block A: Hirooki Goto, Boltin Oleg, Yuya Uemura, Yota Tsuji, David Finlay, EVIL, SANADA, Hiroshi Tanahashi
Block B: El Phantasmo, Shota Umino, Shingo Takagi, Zack Sabre Jr., Great-O-Khan, Gabriel Kidd, Ren Narita, Konosuke Takeshita

Sabre is the defending tournament winner.

The play-in matches, where the winners of each match qualify, are as follows:
Block A: Taichi vs. Callum Newman (6/23), Ryohei Oiwa vs. Don Fale (7/4)
Block B: Tomohiro Ishii vs. Drilla Moloney (6/23), YOSHI-HASHI vs. Chase Owens (7/4)

The tournament starts on 7/20 in Hokkaido and ends on 8/17 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo. This year the top 3 in each block will advance, with the block winners advancing directly to the Semifinals and 2nd & 3rd going to a playoff match. The winner of the tournament gets an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match, while traditionally at Tokyo Dome that is not always the case-Sabre gambled on an early cash-in to go to October’s Royal Quest 4 event in his home country of England as champion and it paid off because he won the title.

In non-G1 news, a new Young Lion will debut during the upcoming New Japan Soul 2025 tour as Tatsuya Matsumoto will begin his career on Wednesday, and will face Zane Jay in the first of a series of matches between them on the tour. Jay is a graduate of the US-based NJPW Academy, the first true graduate to make his Japan debut in the promotion after training & competing in US events. Earlier this year he gave up his ‘STRONG Survivor” title and guaranteed position in opening matches on US events to pursue training and competing in Japan.
Matsumoto, 24, is a Junior Heavyweight and former personal trainer who passed the entrance test in 2023 and began training last year. He was a wrestler in high school.

UPDATE: Taichi has announced on social media that Just 5/4 Guys is no more. After the return and subsequent defection of DOUKI to House Of Torture, Taichi is disbanding the faction, which was really just himself and Yuya Uemura now (plus TAKA Michinoku although he is a freelancer, they were 5 until SANADA defected to HOT too) and will now be part of the main aka unaffiliated New Japan core unit.

In other news, 2 new matches for Kobe Pro Wrestling Festival 2025 and a change to one already set match were announced today: The change first-the Open The Triangle Gate Championship match that was champions ISHIN, Yoshiki Kato & Homare vs. Luis Mante, Bendito & Flamita for the titles is now a 3-way as JACKY KAMEI, Riiita & Mochizuki Junior have been added. The new matches added today are Open The Twin Gate Champions Jason Lee & Kota Minoura vs. Ben-K & Hyo for the titles and Yuki Yoshioka & Dragon Dia vs. Dragon Kid & TBA. Accepted today by champions HANAKO & Waka Tsukiyama. That match will happen at the next NEW BLOOD event on 7/4 at Tokyo Square in Tokyo. For those unaware, the rules to challenge for the titles are one of the two wrestlers must meet these criteria: Be 20 or younger OR have 3 years or less experience AND be eligible to challenge for the Future Of Stardom Championship. Hime is eliigible as a rookie even though she is 26 and Kohgo would not be eligible due to being over 20 and having more than 6 years experience.

DOUKI beat Wato with a modified figure 4. This was to have been Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Sho challenging but Kanemaru was out with an apparent right arm injury. DOUKI was the replacement as he returned from a long injury absence AND defected to House Of Torture. So now Just 4 Guys are presumably Just 3 Guys.

Match 5: Taichi & Tomohiro Ishii beat IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Callum Newman & Great-O-Khan to win the titles. Taichi & Ishii become the 110th IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions. Taichi pinned Newman after Black Mephisto.

NEW NEVER Openweight Champion Boltin Oleg will also make his first title defense on 6/29, which appears to be against Yuji Nagata, and NJPW WORLD TV Champion El Phantasmo will defend the title vs. TBA (open challenge).

Dragon Gate Pro Wrestling 6/15/25 LIVE Results (Event 1)

Dragon Gate runs their regular monthly doubleheader today, which is a same-day doubleheader in Fukuoka. Both are standard house shows as the second event marks the halfway point of a run of 5 events in 4 days, then they’ll take a few days off before this month’s PRIME ZONE+ taping and weekend events the rest of the month before picking up the pace again before Kobe Pro Wrestling Festival 2025. The main event will continue the current Paradox vs. Z-Brats rivalry ahead of the Open The Dream Gate Championship match between Shun Skywalker & YAMATO next month. This post will have live results from the first of 2 events today.

Today’s events will be held at Acros Fukuoka in Fukuoka and can be watched LIVE on DRAGONGATE NETWORK. There will be no commentary on the main stream but also an alternate stream with wrestler commentary. You will also be able to watch the first match FOR FREE on YouTube. Yesterday’s event ran a bit longer than I anticipated, in part due to a 20 minute intermission, but I wouldn’t expect the same today due to event start times. The first event should run just over 2 hours, maybe closer to 2 1/2 hours.

Today’s lineup:
Stromg Machine J, Kzy & U-T vs. Ben-K, Hyo & Mochizuki Junior
Ultimo Dragon & Genki Horiguchi vs. Jason Lee & Yoshiki Kato
Ryoya Tanaka vs. Bendito (Cancelled last-second, see notes below)
Yuki Yoshioka & Dragon Dia vs. Shun Skywalker & Homare
JACKY KAMEI & Riiita vs. Flamita & Luis Mante
YAMATO, Dragon Kid, BxB Hulk & Susumu Yokosuka vs. Madoka Kikuta, Kota Minoura, KAI & ISHIN

Refresh this page occasionally for the latest results.

Updates below will begin at 9 PM PT/midnight ET. The broadcast is scheduled to begin 15 minutes prior to the event. (The second event is scheduled to begin tomorrow at 1 AM PT/4 AM ET)

8:45 PM PT UPDATE: The broadcast has begun so live updates begin now.

We are LIVE from Acros Fukuoka in Fukuoka, Japan. There is no commentary. The wrestler commentary will begin with the first match.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. The crowd is still filing in and I can only see opposite hard camera which has a few people. I think the venue’s max capacity is in the 650-700 range but they normally set up for around 500. The second show usually draws a little more in these doubleheaders, I’ll make an initial first show guess of around 400. (After seeing the crowd as the first match ended it looked pretty full so I’m gonna up my estimate to 500) (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 439)

The matches should begin in 20-25 minutes.

The matches begin at 9:08 PM PT/12:08 AM ET.

Match 1: Strong Machine J, Kzy & U-T vs. Ben-K, Hyo & Mochizuki Junior. 15 minute time limit
Result: Ben-K, Hyo & Mochizuki Junior beat Strong Machine J. Kzy & U-T. Ben-K pinned Kzy after a spear.

Match 2: Ultimo Dragon & Genki Horiguchi vs. Jason Lee & Yoshiki Kato. 15 minute time limit
Result: Ultimo Dragon & Genki Horiguchi beat Jason Lee & Yoshiki Kato by DQ. Kato DQ’d. Ref assault.

Match 3: Yuki Yoshioka & Dragon Dia vs. Shun Skywalker & Homare. 30 minute time limit
Result: Shun Skywalker & Homare beat Yuki Yohsioka & Dragon Dia. Skywalker pinned Yoshioka.

Intermission.

The matches resume at 10:15 PM PT/1:15 AM ET. I’m not sure what happened to change plans but it sounds like the Ryoya Tanaka-Bendito match today is off because we’re going to the semifinal match next. (Edit: Based on the intros for the next match and a pre-first match promo with appeal made to and decision granted by GM Ryo Saito, what was to have been a tag match is now a 6-man tag with Tanaka & Bendito added, thus the Tanaka-Bendito match is now off)

Match 4: JACKY KAMEI, Ryoya Tanaka & Riiita vs. Flamita, Bendito & Luis Mante. 30 minute time limit
Result: JACKY KAMEI, Ryoya Tanaka & Riiita beat Flamita, Bendito & Luis Mante. Tanaka pinned Flamita. ISHIN interference right before the end set it up (threw a chair at Flamita while on the top rope).

Main Event: YAMATO, Dragon Kid, BxB Hulk & Susumu Yokosuka vs. Madoka Kikuta, Kota Minoura, KAI & ISHIN. 1 Hour time limit
Result: Madoka Kikura, Kota Minoura, KAI & ISHIN beat YAMATO, Dragon Kid, BxB Hulk & Susumu Yokosuka. Kikuta pinned Kid after a rolling lariat.

The second event is coming up shortly. Live streaming on DRAGONGATE NETWORK will begin at 1 AM PT/4 AM ET.
