Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling Tokyo Princess Cup Round 1 Results (7/17/22)

Tokyo Joshi Pro continues the Tokyo Princess Cup today with the second half of Round 1. The 4 remaining matches will be held today along with a couple of non-tournament matches that will be announced when the event starts. Because of the tournament structure this year with the number of participants, today’s winners all will get a free pass through Round 2 and go straight to the Quarterfinals.

Today’s event will be held at Ryogoku KFC Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE and on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. There will be no commentary. If you’re planning on watching this and New Japan tonight plan on some split-screen/multitasking as I anticipate this event having a total running time of just under 2 hours (last night’s event went 1 hour 40 minutes).

New Japan 7/16/22 Results

New Japan kicked off the G1 CLIMAX 32 Tournament today, the biggest and most important tournament of the year that unofficially begins the road to Tokyo Dome on January 4. This year’s installment has 28 entrants-the most ever-spread out among 4 blocks in round-robin format.

Today’s event was held at Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center Hokkai Kita Yell in Hokkaido and can be watched on demand on New Japan World in Japanese and English FOR FREE! No login or signup required!

The announced paid attendance was 2891. On replay it looked very close to a legit sellout. This event aired as part of WORLD PRO WRESTLING LIVE on TV Asahi in Japan and was also simulcast on ABEMA. Hiroyoshi Tenzan is the guest on Japanese commentary.

Match 1: Tom Lawlor beat Kosei Fujita. This was to have been Fujita & Yuto Nakashima vs. Lawlor & Royce Isaacs, but Nakashima & Isaacs were both removed due to a Nakashima injury.

Match 2: Bad Dude Tito & Jonah beat Ryohei Oiwa & Toru Yano. Jonah pinned Oiwa after a powerbomb.

Match 3: Sho, Yujiro Takahashi & EVIL beat Jado, David Finlay & Tama Tonga. Takahashi pinned Jado after Pimp Juice.

Match 4: Chase Owens, Bad Luck Fale, Juice Robinson & KENTA beat TAKA Michinoku, Taichi, Zack Sabre Jr. & Lance Archer. Robinson pinned TAKA.

Pro Wrestling NOAH 7/16/22 Results

Pro Wrestling NOAH’s latest blowout event, DESTINATION 2022, is now in the books. Besides featuring multiple title matches, it marked the return of Keiji Muto for the beginning of the end as The Living Legend began his series of the final 5 matches of his incomparable 40-year career.

Today’s event was held at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese. The live broadcast was in English only outside Japan due to it being an ABEMA exclusive in Japan. The first 2 matches can also be watched FOR FREE on YouTube.

The announced paid attendance was 3215. With everything else happening today including New Japan and other events, and considering capacity limits and the layout of the venue, this sounds like a much-needed good number for the promotion-I’d say this represented around 75% capacity. In addition to the hosts, the guests on commentary included Rina Matsuki, Jushin Thunder Liger, Naomichi Marufuji, Mohammed Yone & Akitoshi Saito. (At this time the replay, which includes pre-show coverage, has a total run time of just over 5 hours) If you want to skip the pre-show, you can jump ahead to about the 30 minute mark.

Also, before the event it was announced that the GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Championship is now VACANT. Previous champions Michael Elgin & Masa Kitamiya vacated the titles because Elgin would miss the event. Unspecified. The scheduled title defense against Hideki Suzuki & Timothy Thatcher would now be for the vacant titles with Yoshiki Inamura replacing Elgin.

Match 1: Shuji Kondo, Tadasuke, Hi69 & Hajime Ohara beat Daisuke Harada, Atsushi Kotoge, YO-HEY & Extreme Tiger. Kondo pinned Harada after a King Kong lariat.

Match 2: Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., Rene Dupree, Simon Gotch, Stallion Rogerse & Anthony Greene beat Kazushi Sakuraba, Masaaki Mochizuki, Shuhei Taniguchi, Daiki Inaba & Kinya Okada. Greene pinned Okada after Walkin Talkin Flying. Inamura was to have been in this match but due to the tag title situation, Sakuraba was added as a replacement.

Match 4: Ninja Mack beat Dante Leon.

Match 5: In a Hardcore Match, Rob Van Dam & Masato Tanaka beat NOSAWA Rongai & SUper Crazy. Van Dam pinned NOSAWA after 5 Star Frog Splash.

Match 6: Go Shiozaki, Takashi Sugiura & Kazuyuki Fujita beat Masakatsu Funaki, Katsuhiko Nakajima & Manabu Soya. Fujita pinned Soya after a powerbomb.

Match 7: PRO WRESTLING LOVE FOREVER 1-THE FINAL COUNTDOWN: Kaito Kiyomiya beat Keiji Muto by submission. The proverbial torch has officially been passed to The Supernova.

Match 8: Hideki Suzuki & Timothy Thatcher beat Masa Kitamiya & Yoshiki Inamura by ref stoppage to win the vacant GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. Suzuki & Thatcher become the 61st GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Champions. Suzuki beat Inamura with a sleeper hold.

Match 9: GHC Jr. Heavyweight Champion HAYATA beat Seiki Yoshioka to retain the title. V3 for HAYATA. Next up: Kondo. Kongo Kondo, haha.

Main Event: Kenoh beat GHC Heavyweight Champion Satoshi Kojima to win the title. Kenoh becomes the 40th GHC Heavyweight Champion. And somewhere deep within CyberFight Corporation, one of Sanshiro Takagi’s worst nightmares has come true…Hahaha.

Next up is the STAR NAVIGATION 2022 Tour starting Thursday at Korakuen Hall. This will be an ABEMA-only broadcast with replay on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at a later time, meaning there will be no live broadcast outside Japan. The only match announced so far is an Open The Triangle Gate (Dragon Gate) Championship match. Additionally, a post-event press conference for today’s event and match announcements for the upcoming N-1 VICTORY Tournament will be streamed FOR FREE on YouTube beginning tomorrow at 1 AM PT/4 AM ET.

DDT 7/16 Results

DDT headed to Nagoya today as part of their SUMMER VACATION 2022 Tour, although it was a house show there were two title matches headlined by a may-or-may-not-see-video DDT Extreme Title match with those deplorable Pheromons.

Today’s event was held at Nippongashi Sports Plaza Stadiumm 3 in Nagoya and will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at a later date. There was no live broadcast.

The announced paid attendance was 238, a full house/near-sellout.

Match 2: Yukio Sakaguchi, Saki Akai & Hideki Okatani beat HARASHIMA, Toru Owashi & Kazuki Hirata. Okatani pinned Hirata with a double arm suplex.

Match 5: In a 3-on-1 Handicap Match where any of the 3 could be pinned and the team loses, with Sanshiro Takagi as special referee but anyone wearing the referee shirt could become ref if Takagi somehow became incapacitated, Akito beat DDT Extreme Champion Yuki Iino, Danshoku Dieno & Yumehito Imanari by pinning Dieno to win the title. Akito becomes the 54th DDT Extreme Champion.

Main Event: KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Champions Daisuke Sasaki, MJ Pawl & KANON beat Masa Takanashi, Chris Brookes & Antonio Honda to retain the titles. KANON beat Honda with Just Cobra Twist. V1 for the champs. Next up: Ueno/Katsumata/Kojima. That will happen on 7/24 at Korakuen Hall.

Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling Tokyo Princess Cup Round 1 Results (7/16/22)

After their summer blowout event last weekend, Tokyo Joshi Pro kicks off their annual Tokyo Princess Cup Tournament today, the 9th annual installment of the event to crown the top singles wrestler in TJPW. This is the first event of a 3-day tripleheader comprising the first 2 rounds of the tournament. Almost the entire roster is featured although 2 members will not participate this year-rookie Juria Nagano because of scheduling issues and defending tournament winner Maki Itoh because of Game Changer Wrestling (US) participation scheduled for the same day as the Finals in mid-August. The remaining 20 will go for the Cup and a Princess Of Princess Championship opportunity, unless current champion Shoko Nakajima wins the Cup (and those hopes could end today). Because of the number of entrants, 4 get a free pass into the 2nd round (Raku, Suzume, Hikari Noa & likely favorite Mizuki, a 2-time tournament winner). Today will be the first half of Round 1 and some non-tournament matches that won’t be announced until the event starts.

UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 262. It also was announced post-event that Yamashita will miss the 7/23 event. International excursion. It’s not known where that will be but Ring Of Honor has an event that day, and Yamashita also is expected to return to All Elite Wrestling at some point soon to face Thunder Rosa for the AEW Women’s World Championship.

New Japan G1 CLIMAX 32 Undercard Changes

New Japan has announced a couple of non-tournament card changes to upcoming G1 CLIMAX 32 events because Yuto Nakashima is now off a couple events. Still recovering from a left elbow injury and will miss tomorrow and Wednesday. For tomorrow, he was to have teamed with Kosei Fujita to face Tom Lawlor & Royce Isaacs. Isaacs is now off as well so it will be Fujita-Lawlor. On Wednesday, he was to have teamed with Toru Yano to face YOSHI-HASHI & Kazuchika Okada. Ryohei Oiwa is the replacement.
No word on how much longer Nakashima may be out.

Today’s event was held at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

The announced paid attendance was 147, a super full house/very near sellout.

Match 1: In a Falls Count Anywhere match, Seno Sister (?) & Mao Inoue beat Natsumi & Mochi. Seno beat Mochi with a Japanese leg roll clutch.

All-Japan Pro Wrestling ran a major event today, featuring 3 title matches including New Japan participation as Tiger Mask 4 returned to defend his All-Japan World Jr. Heavyweight Championship. The main event featured two of All-Japan’s top stars facing off for the promotion’s top prize, the Triple Crown.

Today’s event was held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on AJPW.TV.

The announced paid attendance was 893.

Match 1: Shuji Ishikawa, Takao Omori & Ryo Inoue beat Masanobu Fuchi, Yoshitatsu & Izanagi. Omori pinned Fuchi after Ace Bomber.
