UPDATE: While not yet officially announced, Hochi Sports reports Nabatame has WITHDRAWN ahead of Day 5. Left knee injuries suffered today. Out at least 3 days and may return in the second week. He is currently 1-2. If official then Hidenoumi will get the fusen as a result.

New Japan continued the New Japan Cup today in Okayana with the start of Round 2.

Today’s event was held at Zip Arena Okayama in Okayama and can be watched on demand on New Japan World.

GLEAT 3/9/25 Results

GLEAT ran their 5th Lidet UWF standalone event yesterday, featuring their spinoff version of Akira Maeda’s old UWF promotion.

Yesterday’s event was held at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring in Tokyo and will be available on demand on YouTube at a later date, but only for paid subscribers (900 Japanese yen/month in Japan, $8.99 US outside Japan).

The announced paid attendance was 173.

All matches were Lidet UWF Bouts. 15 minute time limits for single matches, 20 minutes for double matches (tag team). No pinfalls, win only by submisison, KO/TKO, ref stoppage or lose all points (start with 5 points, one point lost for each rope break, down recovery or foul). If tied on points at the time limit, match is a Draw.

Match 1: Soma Watanabe beat Tetsuya Izuchi by KO.

Match 2: Kotaro Suzuki beat Tyson Maeguchi by submission.

Of note: RARE KIMARITE ALERT!!! Asakoryu won with a rare technique today-Okurihikiotoshi, rear pull down. It happened when Sadanoumi lost his balance and nearly fell back on his rear to the ground but managed to make the save, but soon was unable to maintain his balance a second time and went down. As for the new Yokozuna, Hoshoryu’s unbeaten reign as Grand Champion barely lasted two seconds as Abi blasted him away, and Hoshoryu’s face showed it afterwards. But it’s only Day 1. There have also been rumors Hoshoryu was suffering from food poisoning last week and lost 10-11 pounds as a result. Kotozakura got off to a bad start, taking an opening day loss, meaning he now must go 8-6 or better the rest of the way or he will be demoted from Ozeki.
Tomorrow brings the first kinboshi chance of the Hoshoryu Yokozuna era when he faces Wakatakakage.
Also a late add: When Tamawashi has his match tomorrow, he will move into #5 on the all-time list for most career matches.

Lower tier notes: No match today for Enho in his Makushita return as he’s now halfway back to Juryo. His first match will be tomorrow. In his second recent comeback attempt, Asanoyama won his return match in the Sandanme as he looks to be promoted back to Makushita in May. This time the comeback attempt is from an injury that caused him to be demoted from the top tier.

UPDATE: Nishikifuji has WITHDRAWN after Day 1. More details tomorrow. Ryuden will get the fusen on Day 2 as a result.

The winners will meet on 4/11 at Niigata City Gym in Niigata in the Finals for the title.

New Japan continued the New Japan Cup today in Hyogo, wrapping up Round 1 and narrowing the field down to 16.

Stardom 3/9/25 Results

Stardom continues the 2025 Cinderella Tournament today with the Quarterfinals. The field started with 16 hopefuls but is now down to 6 and, because of 2 extra eliminations due to time limit draws, there’s already one in the Semifinals as Azusa Inaba got a free pass because both early favorite HANAKO & Aya Sakura got kicked out due to said draw. But Inaba will still be in non-tournament action as part of 5 other matches in addition to the 3 Quarterfinals. Defending tournament winner Hanan will also look to keep her repeat bid alive and advance to the Semifinals.

Today’s event will be held at Kariya City Industrial Promotion Center Aioi Hall in Aichi and can be watched LIVE on Stardom World. There probably will be no commentary. After a 13-match marathon yesterday there are only 8 matches scheduled today so I anticipate a total running time of around 2 1/2 hours.

I think I’m going to be cancelling my subscription after this month, their so-called “upgrade/rebirth/whatever” at the start of the year has not made the service any better.
