Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling 8/21/22 Results

With the Tokyo Princess Cup now behind us, Tokyo Joshi Pro is filling the time between that and the upcoming Fall 2022 tour with a couple of standalone events, beginning today with a “TJPW PERFECTION” doubleheader. This will be a standard house show that may start the build to the WRESTLE PRINCESS 3 main event in October when Shoko Nakajima will again defend the Princess Of Princess Championship against Yuka Sakazaki. Maki Itoh is also back from the US for this event, as is Mizuki from an overseas event.

Today’s event will be held at Ryogoku KFC Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. There will be no commentary. Based on the card and time limits today’s event likely will run a little under 2 hours, so you’re not pulling an all-nighter in the US to watch. (it wound up running about 1 hour, 45 minutes)

Today’s lineup:

Hyper Misao vs. Moka Miyamoto

Miyu Yamashita & Maki Itoh vs. Yuki Aino & Raku

Hikari Noa & Nao Kakuta vs. Suzume & Neko Haruna

Rika Tatsumi vs. Kaya Toribami

Miu Watanabe vs. Pom Harajuku

The paid attendance will be announced after the event, while the crowd is still filing in it looks smaller than usual for a Sunday matinee. Maybe 200 although as low as 175 wouldn’t surprise me.

The matches should begin in about 15 minutes.

During her opening announcements Sayuri Namba brings out Hikari Noa. It sounds like Noa will soon be headed to England to compete in Pro Wrestling EVE, possibly challenging International Princess Champion Alex Windsor for the title. New Japan 8/20/22 Results

New Japan ran a special post-G1 CLIMAX outdoor event today in cooperation with Japanese TV partner TV Asahi, part of a special summer event the station is holding in the Roppongi Hills area of Tokyo.

Today’s event was held at Roppongi Hills Arena, Summer Station Live Arena in Tokyo and was broadcast as a special PPV by TV Asahi in Japan. It is not available on New Japan World at this time. If the PPV is available outside Japan, it will be so for another week or two at a cost of about $15 US (2000 yen).

The announced paid attendance was 613, a legit advance sellout.

Match 1: Ryohei Oiwa beat Yuto Nakashima.

Match 2: Minoru Suzuki beat Kosei Fujita.

Match 3: Tomoshiro Ishii, Yoh, YOSHI-HASHI & Hirooki Goto beat Gedo, Sho, Yujiro Takahashi & EVIL. Goto pinned Gedo after Shoto.

Match 4: Master Wato & Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Ryusuke Taguchi & Toru Yano. Tanahashi pinned Taguchi. Afterwards, Wato requested to re-form his team with Taguchi and go after the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship again even though they can’t be the 69th champions anymore. How would 7 or 1 sound? Unless they waited to become the 96th champions…

Match 5: Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb beat Tomoaki HOnma & Togi Makabe. Cobb pinned Honma after Tour of the Islands.

Main Event: BUSHI, SANADA, Shingo Takagi & Tetsuya Naito beat TAKA Michinoku, El Desperado, Taichi & Zack Sabre Jr. Naito pinned TAKA after Destino. Naito then sent the crowd home happy with a rally cry and hope this event would be held again next year.

After the event, the October & November schedule was announced. The series will be titled “Battle Autumn ’22”, a continuation of the year-long 50th Anniversary celebration. The schedule is as follows:
10/13 & 10/15-Korakuen Hall
10/16-Aore Nagaoka, Niigata (start time TBA)
10/17-Big Palette Fukushima, Fukushima
10/19-Aimesse Yamanashi, Yamanashi
10/21-Iwate Prefectural Gym, Iwate
10/22-Akita Terrsa, Akita
10/23-New Aomori Prefectural Sports Park Maeda Arena Main Arena, Aomori
10/26 & 10/27-Korakuen Hall
10/30-Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall 1, Chiba
11/1-Echisen Sports Arena, Fukui
11/2-Suehiro Gym, Komatsu City (Ishikawa)
11/3-Osaka Prefectural Gym #2, Osaka
11/5-Osaka Prefectural Gym
The New Japan World broadcast schedule for these events will be announced in late September for the October events and late October for the November events. Probably will be the Korakuen events, a couple others in between, and the two Osaka events. 11/5 likely will be a major event. This also suggests if the World Tag League is held this year, it will be the year-ending tour outside of perhaps a few late-December events as the final build for Tokyo Dome. For the next tour, there is a chance Kazuchika Okada will be absent as he is now on paternity leave following the birth of his son this past week, believed to be his first child. Congratulations to new proud father Okada on this joyous occasion. No word on when he will be back.

DDT “WRESTLE PETER PAN 2022” Results (8/20/22)

WRESTLE PETER PAN, DDT’s biggest annual event, is now in the books. It was the highlight event so far of DDT’s 25th Anniversary celebration but there is still more to come.

Today’s event was held at Ota City General Gym in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese and English.

The announced paid attendance was 1250, a full house/near sellout. Because vocal cheering/support was allowed, the venue was only at 50% capacity (the whole top half of the seating was not used). Your Japanese hosts are Haruo Murata & Kagehiro Osano with special guests Marika Tani of SKE48 (a teammate of Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling star Yuki Arai), Megu Taniguchi of AKB48, and the GOD of Japanese Pro Wrestling, the incomparable Kenta Kobashi. Your English hosts are Christelle Ciari, Hiroshi Arai & Bryan Burton-Lewis. (Chris Brookes was in action today and Baliyan Akki is in the US).
The event begins with opening greeting & announcements at the 10 minute mark before Kobashi delivers the opening shout at the 15 minute mark. I STILL TO THIS DAY get chills & goosebumps every time GRAND SWORD hits for his entrance (although it’s hard to see him so limited mobility-wise from age, his long career and his successful triumphs over cancer). The entire replay runs just under 5 hours.

Match 1: Yusuke Okada, Yuya Koroku & Illusion beat Toui Kojima, Yuki IShida & Takeshi Masada. Koroku beat Ishida with a stranglehold.

Match 2: Yuki Iino, Danshoku Dieno & Koju Takeda (666, but now the newest member of those despicable Pheromons) beat Toru Owashi, Kazuki Hirata & Antonio Honda and Yuji Hino, Yukio Naya & Super Sasadango Machine in a 3-way by ref stoppage (TKO) when Takeda beat Hirata.

Match 3: HARASHIMA, Yukio Sakaguchi & Hideki Okatani beat Naomi Yoshimura, Kota Umeda & Keisuke Okuda. HARASHIMA pinned Yoshimura after Blue Sword.

Match 4: Shinichiro Kawamatsu Debut Match: Osamu Nishimura, Makoto Oishi & Akito beat Shinichiro Kawamatsu, Sanshiro Takagi & Takao Soma. Nishimura pinned Kawamatsu.

Match 5: Jun Akiyama & Saki Akai beat Chris Brookes & Asuka (Veny). Akai beat Asuka with an extreme arm triangle.

Match 6: In a Hardcore Match, DDT Extreme Champion Joey Janela beat Shunma Katsumata to retain the title. V1 for Janela.

Match 7: Yuki Ueno beat DDT Universal Champion Masa Takanashi to win the title. Ueno becomes the 8th DDT Universal Champion.

Match 8: DDT 25th Anniversary Match: Konosuke Takeshita, MAO & Yasu Urano beat Dick Togo (New Japan Pro Wrestling), Daisuke Sasaki & KANON. Takeshita pinned KANON after a jumping knee.

Main Event: KO-D Openweight Champion Kazusada Higuchi beat Tetsuya Endo to retain the title. V1 for Higuchi. Next up: Takeshita. That will happen on 9/25 at Korakuen Hall. Higuchi wants the best and he got the best, he certainly is proving himself to be a fighting champion and taking pride in his new position as the flag-bearer of DDT in more ways than one. This should be another excellent match.

LiLiCo, who retired earlier this year, made a special appearance today and is returning as a special ambassador for the final event of the year at Tokyo Dome City Hall. And she has come up with a true DDT idea for those attending-if you attend and feel the event was boring, you will get a full refund of your ticket price. That event will be on 12/29.

One more tournament this year is coming up-D KING GRAND PRIX 2022, a singles tournament. Kenta Kobashi has been named chairman of the tournament executive committee. It will run during November and end on December 4. Entrants will be revealed on September 25-the plan is 24 total in 2 blocks of 12 and entrants must be younger than 40 (so no Jun Akiyama, HARASHIMA, Sanshiro Takagi and a few others).

The next event is Tuesday at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo for the monthly DDT FREE event, where all tickets are free for those lucky enough to be chosen in the lottery to get them. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin at 2:30 AM PT/5:30 AM ET.

One last thing from just finishing watching the replay: Stay tuned after the main event and Higuchi’s exit as the ending is done movie-style with a credit roll of wrestlers & staff and outtakes/unseen pre-show backstage footage. Plus some pre-event footage from outside the venue with fans entering and taking everything in, all set to one of the old DDT theme songs. Very nice touch! After it ends we see Higuchi run into Endo backstage, leading to one final show of respect between them to end the show.

All-Japan Pro Wrestling Royal Road Tournament Results (8/20/22)

All-Japan wraps up the 9th Royal Road Tournament today with a Saturday matinee, featuring the tournament Semifinals and Finals. The tournament has seen a late shakeup because Naoya Nomura reached the Semifinals but is now out due to coronavirus, and it was decided that because he lost to Nomura, Takao Omori gets a second chance and is in the semifinals despite that. The biggest loser here is Jake Lee, who probably thought maybe he’d get a free pass to the Finals and was preparing for Nomura, but now gets Omori instead. A handful of multi-man tag matches make up the undercard between the tournament matches.

Today’s event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on AJPW.TV. Since it’s a Korakuen event there should be Japanese commentary.

Today’s lineup:
Royal Road Semifinals:
Jake Lee vs. Takao Omori
Yuji Nagata (New Japan Pro Wrestling) vs. Kento Miyahata
Shuji Ishikawa, Renji Ayabe & Ryo Inoue vs. Yoshitatsu, TAJIRI & Cyrus
Yuma & Atsuki Aoyagi & Hokuto Omori vs. Takuya Nomura, Rising Hayato & Uji Shiiba
Black Menso-re, Sushi & Andy Woo vs. Hikaru Sato, Dan Tamura & Rocky Kawamura 2
Suwama, Toshizo, KONO & TARU vs. Shotaro Ashino, Tatsuki Honda, Yusuke Kodama & Seigo Tachibana
Royal Road Finals: Lee/Omori vs. Nagata/Miyahara

Depending on the hard-camera side crowd, I’m guessing it’ll be around 550. I didn’t catch the name but your commentary tonight is a one-man team.

AEW Dynamite 8/17/22 Results (SPOILERS!)

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Charleston, WV (SPOILERS for west feed viewers!):
The episode was sponsored by the HBO Max series “House Of The Dragon”, which premieres Sunday night. In keeping with that theme, wrestling legend Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat was a special guest timekeeper tonight.

CM Punk called out Adam Page, offering him a title shot. No Page. Jon Moxley came out instead and they brawled all over the place.

In a 2 of 3 Falls match, Bryan Danielson beat Daniel Garcia 2-1. Garcia won Fall 1 by technical submission. Danielson won Fall 2 by pinfall. Danielson won Fall 3 by technical submission.

Tony Nese vs. TBA never happened. Moxley laid out Nese and called out Punk. They tried to fight more but were quickly separated.

Chris Jericho says he & Daniel Garcia will talk in the ring next week after Garcia blew off Jericho earlier.

Gunn Club beat Varsity Blonds. Colten Gunn pinned Griff Garrison. Squash. Post-match, Gunn Club turned on Billy Gunn to align with Stokely Hathaway. They beat down Billy until The Acclaimed made the save. And scissored. Ugh.

Jungle Boy promo leads to a prolonged fight with Christian Cage, Jungle Boy got the best of it despite Cage getting some in. Ended with Jungle Boy stomping on Cage’s arm/shoulder while standing on the steel ring steps. This was damn good stuff.

Toni Storm beat KiLynn King.

AEW Trios Tournament: The Young Bucks & TBA, revealed to be the returning Kenny Omega, beat Andrade El Idolo, Rush & Dragon Lee. Omega pinned Lee after One Winged Angel. Omega’s intro from Justin Roberts included his signature NORTH CA-RO-LI-NA! As the show ended, Andrade laid out Lee, unmasking him in the process, but the camera had already cut to The Bucks & Omega walking back towards the ring as this happened.

Compared to the last several weeks, this was a great show overall.

Next week: Dax Harwood vs. Jay Lethal, Death Triangle vs. Will Ospreay & Aussie Open in the Trios Title Tournament and Moxley-Punk to unify the AEW World Titles!
