Ganbare Pro Wrestling “GIRI GIRI CHOP! 2023” Results (10/1/23) (Updated)

Ganbare Pro Wrestling has a major Sunday matinee coming up today, headlined by title matches for both the promotion’s titles. In the main event, Yumehito Imanari looks to bring the Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Championship back into the promotion’s home fold when he challenges Isami Kodaka, this just a day after Imanari announced he was leaving parent organization CyberFight Corporation and DDT but would still compete in Ganbare. In the other title match, the Spirit Of Ganbare World Tag Team Championship will be defended by Shuichiro Katsumura & Takuya Wada against Hikaru Sato & Tyson Maeguchi. Other notable matches today include Ken OHka & Shota vs. Koji Doi & Kumaarashi, with the stip that the loser who takes the pinfall or submission also loses his hair, so somebody’s leaving bald or close to it. There’s also a Ganbare Women-Tokyo Joshi Pro special crossover tag match as Yuki Kamifuku & Suzume come over from TJPW but will be on opposing teams with YuuRI & Yoshiko Hasegawa, respectively.

Today’s event will be held at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. There will probably be no commentary. The longest the event could run with time limits is around 4 hours but it won’t go nearly that long-with 2 title matches I’ll estimate the running time will be around 2 1/4 hours.
On a side note, if you are a WRESTLE UNIVERSE subscriber be sure to look for the special 2nd Anniversary giveaway banner on the service. Starting now and for the rest of the year you can download 4 new smartphone wallpapers every 10 days, each featuring a wrestler from each of the CyberFight Group promotions. The first set features Kaito Kiyomiya (Pro Wrestling NOAH), Hikari Noa (Tokyo Joshi Pro), Daisuke Sasaki (DDT) and Shuichiro Katsumura (Ganbare Pro) (I incorrectly said earlier it was Ken Ohka). You have until 10/9 at 6:59 PM PT/9:59 PM ET to download these before the second set is made available. They are FREE for members so don’t miss out!

Today’s lineup:
Riara vs. SAKI (for those unfamiliar with her this is not Saki Akai)
Keisuke Ishii, Munetatsu Nakamura & HARUKAZE vs. Takao Soma, Shinichiro Tominaga & Kaho Kobayashi
Yuki Kamifuku & YuuRI vs. Suzume & Yoshiko Hasegawa
Ken Ohka & Shota vs. Koji Doi & Kumaarashi. The loser who takes the pinfall or submission also loses his hair
Spirit Of Ganbare World Tag Team Champions Shuichiro Katsumura & Takuya Wada vs Hikaru Satoh & Tyson Maeguchi for the titles
Spirit of Ganbare World Openweight Champion Isami Kodaka vs. Yumehiro Imanari for the title

Refresh this page occasionally for the latest results.

Updates below will begin at 8 PM PT/11 PM ET. The live stream has just launched as of this post.

7:55 PM PT UPDATE: Live updates begin now…

We are LIVE from Shinjuku Face in Tokyo, Japan. There is no commentary.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. The crowd is still filing in but without a major last-minute walkup the venue probably will be just under half full, so I’m predicting it’ll be between 200-250. The venue’s max capacity for wrestling is 500. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 269, a full house/near sellout)

The matches begin at 8:05 PM PT. Only hard camera view today.

Match 1: Riara vs. SAKI. 30 minute time limit
Result: SAKI beat Riara

Match 2: Keisuke Ishii, Munetatsu Nakamura & HARUKAZE vs. Takao Soma, Shinichiro Tominaga & Kaho Kobayashi. 30 minute time limit
Result: Keisuke Ishii, Munetatsu Nakamura & HARUKAZE beat Takao Soma, Shinichiro Tominaga & Kaho Kobayashi. Nakamura pinned Tominaga.

Match 3: Yuki Kamifuku (Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling) & YuuRI vs. Suzume (Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling) & Yoshiko Hasegawa. 30 minute time limit
Result: Yuki Kamifuku & YuuRI beat Suzume & Yoshiko Hasegawa. YuuRI pinned Hasegawa after a swanton bomb.

Match 4: Ken Ohka & Shota vs. Koji Doi & Kumaarashi. The loser who takes the pinfall or submission also loses his hair. No time limit
Result: Koji Doi & Kumaarashi beat Ken Ohka & Shota. Kumaarashi pinned Ohka after a diving senton. As a result, Ohka loses his hair.

Intermission. (As of 9:20 PM PT) The event will resume shortly.

The matches resume at 9:33 PM PT.

Match 5: Spirit Of Ganbare World Tag Team Champions Shuichiro Katsumura & Takuya Wada vs Hikaru Sato & Tyson Maeguchi for the titles. 1 Hour time limit. Challengers already in the ring when we come back from break
Result: Spirit Of Ganbare World Tag Team Champions huichiro Katsumura & Takuya Wada beat Hikaru Sato & Tyson Maeguchi to retain the titles. Wada beat Maeguchi with a modified armbar. V2 for the champs. (UPDATE: Next up: Nakamura & Ishii. That match will happen on 11/23)

Main Event: Spirit of Ganbare World Openweight Champion Isami Kodaka vs. Yumehiro Imanari for the title. 1 Hour time limit
Result: Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Champion Isami Kodaka beat Yumehito Imanari to retain the title. V3 for Kodaka. Next up: Looks like Shota. Challenge made post-match for what would likely be the main event of their year-ending event on 12/27 at Korakuen Hall. (UPDATE: It will happen on 11/23)

The next event is a Ganbare Women event on 10/22 at Takashimadaira Community Center in Tokyo. There will be no live broadcast. That will be followed by a second Ganbare Women event on 11/1 at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring with Saki Akai participation, which will stream live on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. The next main Ganbare event is 11/23 at Takashimadaira Community Center. There will be no live broadcast. 12/27 broadcast plans TBA but since it’s Korakuen I would expect it to stream live.
