New Japan Pro Wrestling Capital Collision 5/14/22 Results (LIVE)

After the PPV debacle that was Windy City Riot, literally and figuratively, New Japan is trying again tonight with their next US event, Capital Collision, as they head to Washington, DC for the first time. They already have ran into problems though, as last night they were forced to make several card changes because All Elite Wretling star Trent Beretta, scheduled for one of the featured matches, tested positive for the coronavirus and is now off. The promotion has promised greatly improved technical capabilities to avoid a repeat of what happened last month so hopefully it goes off without a hitch. The main event will feature a 4-way for the IWGP US Heavyweight Championship.
Today’s event will be held at Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, DC and can be watched LIVE on FITE in English for $19.99. You also get unlimited on demand replays with purchase. Also, it’s completely risk-free: If there are any technical issues with the stream like with Windy City Riot’s live broadcast, you can request a refund from FITE and you will get your money back in full, no questions asked. The PPV is also available in Japanese on New Japan World, but that will cost around $24 in addition to monthly subscription fees if you are not a subscriber. Subscribers still have to pay for the event for now.
There is also seheduled to be a 30 minute FREE pre-show on YouTube before the event. This may feature a pre-show dark match for the live crowd but that is not definite. Said match will not be on the PPV stream.
I expect the event’s total run time to be in the range of 3-3 1/2 hours.

Tonight’s lineup:
Pre-show: Nick Comoroto vs. Kevin Knight (non-televised)

PPV:
Ren Narita vs. Karl Fredericks
Fred Rosser, David Finlay, Tanga Loa, Yuya Uemura & The DKC vs. Tom Lalor, Royce Isaacs, Jorel Nelson, JR Kratos & Danny Limelight
Chase Owens vs. Great-O-Khan
Aaron Henare, Jeff Cobb, Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis vs. Jonah, Shane Haste, Mikey Nicholls & Bad Dude Tito
Brody King vs. Minoru Suzuki
Eddie Kingston vs. Tomohiro Ishii
Kazuchika Okada & Rocky Romero vs. Jay White & Hikuleo
IWGP US Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Juice Robinson, Will Ospreay & Jon Moxley in a 4-way for the title
Updates below will begin at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT.

LIVE updates below:
Match 1: Karl Fredericks beat Ren Narita.

Match 2: Result: Tom Lawlor, Royce Isaacs, Jorel Nelson, JR Kratos & Danny Limelight beat The DKC, Fred Rosser, Yuya Uemura, Tanga Loa & David Finlay. Limelight pinned DKC after a springboard DDT.

Match 3: Chase Owens beat Great-O-Khan.

Match 4: Shane Haste, Mikey Nicholls, Jona & Bad Dude Tito beat Jeff Cobb, Aaron Henare, Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis. Nicholls pinned Fletcher.

Main Event: Juice Robinson neat IWGP US Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi, Jon Moxley & Will Ospreay in a 4-way by pinning Ospreay to win the title. Robinson becomes the 15th IWGP US Heavyweight Champion.

After commentary signs off and everyone else leaves, Moxley with microphone for a promo to send the crowd home happy.

End Show.

BREAKING: 5/14 New Japan Event Changes

In a development with AEW ramifications, New Japan just announced Trent Beretta is now off tomorrow’s Capital Collision event. Coronavirus. He was to have teamed with Kazuchika Okada to face Jay White & Hikuleo. Rocky Romero is the replcement, meaning there are other card changes:
Romero was in a 10-man tag and will now be replaced by The DKC, who was to have faced Kevin Knight in a non-televised pre-show match. Nick Comoroto is the replacement.

This development likely means Trent can’t be at AEW’s events next week in Houston.

AEW Rampage 5/13/22 Results

AEW Rampage aired at a special earlier time today due to NHL Playoffs. Here are quick results from today’s show (5/13/22):
Penta Oscuro, Rey Fenix & Pac beat Marq Quen, the Butcher & The Blade. Pac pinned Quen after Black Arrow.

Shawn Spears beat Bear Boulder. Borderline squash.

Owen Hart Cup Quarterfinals: Ruby Soho beat Riho. As a result, Soho advances to the Semifinals to face the Red Velvet-TBA winner. TBA was to have been Hikaru Shida but she is not medically cleared (likely an angle as she was in Japan last week). Kris Statlander is the replacement.

AEW TNT Champion Scorpio Sky beat Frankie Kazarian to retain the title. Screwjob win thanks to Ethan Page & Dan Lambert. Next up may be yet another Sammy Guevara rematch.

Next week’s air time is TBA at this time.

Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling-More US Appearances

Following up on a hint dropped in the preview for Sunday’s event, Tokyo Joshi Pro announced today that International Princess Champion Maki Itoh is returning to the US later this month, and this time she’s bringing bestie/frenemy Miyu Yamashita with her. They will be appearing in Portland, OR on 5/28 and 5/29 US time for local independent PRESTIGE Wrestling. On 5/28, Itoh will defend the International Princess Championship against former WWE star and indy standout Mia Yim, who was recently let go by WWE and apparently has not yet followed fiance Keith Lee to All Elite Wrestling (Itoh made a couple appearances in AEW during their pandemic stay in Jacksonville, FL as part of a #1 Contender Tournament for the AEW Women’s Championship and has an 0-2 AEW record). This is significant for the title because it’s the first time a defense will happen outside TJPW, which was one of the plans for the championship before the coronavirus pandemic derailed those plans. Yamashita will face indy and Impact Wrestling star Masha Slamovich on 5/28.
On 5/29, Yamashita & Itoh will face each other for the first time since WRESTLE PRINCESS 2 in October. Presumably this will be a non-title match if Itoh retains.
As a result, both will miss the 5/29 TJPW event at Otemachi Mitsui Hall in Tokyo.

The events will be available to stream worldwide on the IWTV streaming service, which I believe costs around $15/month. No word on when/if their matches will become available on WRESTLE INIVERSE.

The announced attendance was 348, a legit sellout.

Match 2: Yuki Iino & Danshoku Dieno beat Toru Owashi & Akito. Iino pinned Akito. Afterwards, Akito tried to get out of having to team with Pheromons at CyberFight Festival. Developing.
