Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling 4/8/2023 Results

Tokyo Joshi Pro is back from their USA debut (but reportedly it was quite an adventure getting back to Japan from Los Angeles…some apparently wound up in Washington, DC after their flights got cancelled!) and continues their spring house show tour today with the first event post-USA and last one before their next big event next week. Not all the roster came back as Miyu Yamashita, Maki Itoh & Yuka Sakazaki remained overseas for now with Yamashita not expected back until at least June. They also added a pre-event signing ceremony for next week’s Princess Of Princess Championship match between Mizuki & Nao Kakuta to lead off the event.

There was also a last-minute change to today’s event, what had been a 3-way is now a single match between Hyper Misao & HIMAWARI because of no Raku, who is off due to the ever-vague “poor physical condition”. She posted on Twitter earlier that she will be back next week.

Today’s event will be held at Ryogoku KFC Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. There will be no commentary. With mostly tag matches and the signing ceremony this event will run longer than most weekend house shows-I anticipate the total running time being just over 2 hours, closer to 2 1/4 hours.

Today’s lineup (match order TBA):
Mahiro Kiryu, Wakana Uehara & Toga vs. Yuki Aino, Haru Fujo & Runa Okubo
Hikari Noa vs. Shino Suzuki
Hyper Misao vs. HIMAWARI
Yuki Kamifuku & Neko Haruna vs. Suzume & Arisu Endo
Rika Tatsumi & Miu Watanabe vs. Shoko Nakajima & Kaya Toribami
Mizuki & Moka Miyamoto vs. Nao Kakuta & Pom Harajuku

Refresh this page occasionally for the latest results.

Updates below will begin at 11:30 PM ET/8:30 PM PT.

8:30 PM PT UPDATE: Live updates begin now.

We are LIVE from Ryogoku KFC Hall in Tokyo, Japan. There is no commentary.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. Ringside looks full, the othe seats we can see look 65-70%, since they’re back at full capacity there I’ll guess it’ll be around 325.

A table is set up in the ring as we’ll begin with the Mizuki-Nao Kakuta contract signing for 4/15.

The matches should begin in about 30 minutes. Contract signing lasts about 10 minutes and pre-event announcements begin at 8:40 PM PT to be followed by Up Up Girls. During announcements, Max The Impaler & Vertvixen were announced for 4/16 and there will be a screening event in the near future (it will be after the 4/29 event at Shinagawa Club eX).

The matches begin at 8:55 PM PT. Hard camera only views today. (They totally blew up the card last-minute. The original lineup posted above is completely inaccurate except for the first match) (Late update: Turns out both Hyper Misao & Yuki Aino were also last-minute removals from the event. Poor physical condition)

Match 1: Hikari Noa vs. Shino Suzuki. 15 minute time limit
Result: Hikari Noa beat Shino Suzuki

Match 2: Mahiro Kiryu, Wakana Uehara & Toga vs. Arisu Endo, Haru Fujo & Runa Okubo. 20 minute time limit
Result: Arisu Endo, Haru Fuji & Runa Okubo beat Mahiro Kiryu, Wakana Uehara & Toga. Endo beat Uehara with a camel clutch. (Did I miss something? I thought it was Yuki Aino here)

Match 3: Suzume vs. HIMAWARI. 15 minute time limit
Result: Suzume beat HIMAWARI

Match 4: Neko Haruna vs. Yuki Kamifuku. 15 minute time limit
Result: Yuki Kamifuku beat Neko Haruna’

Match 5: Shoko Nakajima & Kaya Toribami vs. Miu Watanabe & Rika Tatsumi. 20 minute time limit
Result: Miu Watanabe & Rika Tatsumi beat Shoko Nakajima & Kaya Toribami. Tatsumi pinned Toribami after a Watanabe Teardrop into Twist Of Fate.

Main Event: Nao Kakuta & Pom Harajuku vs. Mizuki & Moka Miyamoto. 20 minute time limit
Result: Nao Kakuta & Pom Harajuku beat Mizuki & Moka Miyamoto. Kakuta pinned Miyamoto after Shiden Kai.

With the majority of the card being shifted due to 3 unexpected absences today (Raku, Hyper Misao, Yuki Aino) this wound up being a much shorter event than expected, checking in at only about 1 hour, 45 minutes. All 3 missing wrestlers should be back next time out though. It was a tough week of travel back from the USA as things did not go well due to flight cancellations and trouble getting out of Los Angeles, CA with some even being diverted all the way to Washington, DC. So they get a free pass and at least they shared a lot of great photos on social media…Endo acting like she just won the lottery holding a 40-count box of Rice Krispies Treats in a Target was just priceless.

The next event is “STAND ALONE ’23” on 4/15 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. Based on pre-sale ticket schedules, this will be the last time they are only at 50% capacity in the venue (starting in May they’ll be back to full capacity). Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin on 4/14 at 7:30 PM PT/10:30 PM ET.

UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 223.

TJPW News: Late Card Changes For Today

Tokyo Joshi Pro has announced a last minute change to today’s event card because Raku is now off. The ever-vague poor physical condition. She was to have faced Hyper Misao & HIMAWARI in a 3-way. It’s now just Misao vs. HIMAWARI.

The event also will now start with a public contract signing for the Princess Of Princess Championship Match between Mizuki & Nao Kakuta on 4/15. The event begins tonight at 11:30 PM ET/8:30 PM PT and streams live on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

AEW Dynamite 4/5/23 Results

Here are the quick results from tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Long Island, NY:

Before the show, it was announced that Nigel McGuinness signed with AEW as a commentator. This later led into Tony Khan’s “very important announcement”, which is the long-awaited England debut event will happen in late August at Wembley Stadium in London.

Ricky Starks vs. Juice Robinson never happened. Jay White showed up and laid out Starks. It was later announced on social media that White has signed with AEW.

AEW Trios Champions House Of Black beat Best Friends & Orange Cassidy to retain the titles. BuddY Matthews pinned Chuck Taylor.

AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter beat Riho to retain the title.

MJF Day featured footage of MJF getting the key to Long Island, NY, a full band, speeches from a politician, MJF singing and more until the expected bad end, which came in the form of Jungle Boy disguised as a band member (and looking a lot like The Blade) to set up a fight broken up when Sammy Guevara came out for his match.

Sammy Gueveara beat Komander.

FTW Champion Hook beat Ethan Page to retain the title. Squash. Matt Hardy inadvertently helped Hook win.

Blackpool Combat Club beat 3 jobbers. We didn’t get names before it ended. Wheeler Yuta beat one of them. Squash. Afterwards, Bryan Danielson called out Adam Page and that set up the 4 on 1 BCC beatdown.

FTR beat AEW Tag Team Champions Gunn Club to become THE NEW AEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS! If FTR didn’t win the titles they would’ve had to leave AEW, which seemingly confirms they have signed new contracts with AEW.

Fine show but the McGuinness announcement essentially was a spoiler for the huge announcement. Unless you’re an England-based fan it was underwhelming.

Rampage is LIVE Friday followed immediately by Battle Of The Belts 6. Announced for BOTB 6: AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy vs. Dralistico for the title, AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill vs. Billie Starkz for the title and ROH Tag Team Champions Lucha Bros vs. QT Marshall & Powerhouse Hobbs for the titles.

Sumo-May Tournament Rumors (4/5/23)

A new YouTube video from the “Chris Sumo” channel, who is a reliable English-language source with connections in the Japan Sumo Association, reveals some early injury news and notes for the May Tournament, good and bad.

The Good: Yokozuna Terunofuji will be back. He is on the current April tour to get daily reps in and it sounds like his knees are constantly improving and he’a good to go. It was hinted that he may have retired already if he wasn’t the sole yokozuna but there seems to be none of the customary retirement pressures on yokozuna following consistent poor performance or, in this case, extended absences due to injuries.

The Bad: Wakatakakage and Onosho are likely out of the May Tournament. Both withdrew in March due to injuries (Wakatakakage on Day 14, one win short of keeping his Sekiwake ranking, which would now be gone anyway with missing May). Onosho is reportedly out 2 months with knee issues so he has a chance to participate, but an ACL injury will cost Wakatakakage 3 months and definitely his year-plus spot in Sanyaku. Onosho could be demoted to Juryo is he misses May, finishing the equivalent of 4-11 (4-5-6) in March at Maegashira 4 which means demotion. It sounds like Daieisho will definitely return to Sekiwake now in May. Hoshoryu and Kiribayama will both have chances at Ozeki promotion after May but likely just one could make it as they will probably need to win the tournament. If Kiribayama wins again he’ll meet the primary criteria for Ozeki promotion, which is win consecutive tournaments at Sekiwake.

Dragon Gate 4/4/23 Results

Yesterday’s event was held at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on DRAGONGATE NETWORK.

The announced paid attendance was 469, a super full house/very near sellout. A screenshot posted on Twitter made it look like the venue was legit full, which would’ve been up to 500.

Match 1: Hikaru Sato & Ryo Kawamura beat YAMATO & Punch Tominaga. Kawamura pinned Tominaga after a middle kick.

Match 2: Kikutaro beat Kuishinbo Kamen (Osaka Pro) & Ichikawa in a 3-way by pinning Ichikawa.

Match 3: Takashi Sasaki & Jun Kasai (Freedoms) beat Susumu Mochizuki & Yasushi Kanda. Kasai pinned Kanda after a vertical drop reverse tiger driver.

Match 4: Masato Tanaka & Takiya Sugawara (ZERO1) beat Don Fujii & Madoka Kikuta. Tanaka pinned Kikuta after Sliding D.

Match 5: Fujita “Jr” Hayato, Jinsei Shinzaki (Michinoku Pro) & Strong Machine J beat Masaaki Mochizuki, Mochizuki Jr. & LEONA (Dradition). Hayato pinned Jr. after K.I.D.
