Injury Report: No New Beginning For Young Lion

New Japan has announced an injury change for upcoming events: Shoma Kato was injured during a pair of special mini-events this past weekend and is now out of action. Fractured right ankle. Out indefinitely but off at least the entire rest of the current tour. Masatora Yasuda, a fellow Young Lion who was also injured several weeks ago, will return as the replacement in various matches. It’s not yet known how long Kato will be out.

More as it becomes available.

BREAKING: Sumo-A New Yokozuna!

It’s now official-after winning the January Grand Sumo Tournament Sunday, former Ozeki Hoshoryu has been promoted and is now…HOSHORYU YOKOZUNA!!! He is now The 74th Grand Champion! This comes 7 years after he debuted and 16 months after being promoted to Ozeki. Hoshoryu has stated his goal is to match or surpass his uncle, former Yokozuna Asashoryu, who won 25 Emperor’s Cups. Hoshoryu, 25, has 2 top tier titles so far including this latest one, to go along with a career record to date is 330-200-5 (win-loss-absent), 248-152-5 in the top tier. He hasn’t had a losing tournament since 2 straight demotions in September 2021 (5-8-2) and November 2021 (7-8). He also won a Jonidan Championship and 3 Special Prizes.

He is expected to make his first official public appearance as a Yokozuna Friday.

Injury Report: Wingless Gorilla

Stardom’s current Goddesses Of Stardom Champions, Hanan & Saya Iida, are collectively known as wing*gori, but the Young Lioness has to fly solo as the Gorilla aka Iida is now out of action. Unspecified injury. Out Saturday and maybe longer, at this point it’s indefinitely. After Saturday the next event is a week out, not counting a NEW BLOOD event, plus they haven’t announced when Neo Genesis gets their title shot, so the title reign isn’t in jeopardy yet.

More as it becomes available.

Otherwise you probably will only be able to watch content uploaded prior to the 12/30/24 event.

The announced paid attendance was 351. I don’t know if this is accurate because it also incorrectly lists Shinjuku Face in Tokyo as the venue.

The tournament will be a round-robin format with 15 minute time limits for matches. The winner of each block advances to the Finals. The tournament will be held from 2/11-2/22 with the Finals on 3/2 at Yokohama Budokan in Yokohama. The winners presumably will get a GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship match unless HAYATA & YO-HEY win as they are the current champions.

UPDATE: The promotion announced after the event that the GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Championship is now VACANT. The transfer of half the titles from the WWE-bound Omos to Daga after Saturday’s title defense will not be recognized and the titles have been declared vacant.

Pro Wrestling NOAH 1/25/25 Results

Pro Wrestling NOAH continued the SUNNY VOYAGE 2025 Tour today with an event in Osaka.

Today’s event was held at Osaka Prefectural Gym 2 in Osaka and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

The announced paid attendance was 752.

Match 1; Masa Kitamiya & Ulka Sasaki beat Shuhei Taniguchi & Zozaya. Kitamita pinned Zozaya with Saito Suplex.

Match 2: Saxon Huxley beat Daiki Odashima.

Match 3: Naomichi Marufuji, Takashi Sugiura & Manabu Soya beat Mohammed Yone, Atsushi Kotoge & Hajime Ohara. Soya pinned Ohara after Ballistic.

Match 4: YO-HEY, Tadasuke & Yuro Kikuchi beat AMAKUSA, Junta Miyawaki & LJ Cleary. Kikuchi pinned Cleary after Chaos Break.

Match 6: GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion Eita beat HAYATA to retain the title. V1 for Eita. Despite being the champ and winning that’s still a mild upset in my book given HAYATA is far and away the top class of NOAH Junior Heavyweights.

Main Event: GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Jack Morris & Omos (WWE) beat Kaito Kiyomiya & Galeno to retain the titles. Omos pinned Kiyomiya after Last Ride. V1 for the champs. Afterwards, there were reports Omos has given his half of the championship to Daga as a replacement because reportedly he is headed back to WWE. More as it becomes available.

The next event is tomorrow at Takamatsu Symbol Tower in Kagawa. There will be no live broadcast. However, it will reportedly be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE Monday instead of the usual 3 days after.
