New Japan 6/3/22 Results (BOSJ Finals)

New Japan wrapped up the Best Of The Super Junior 29 today with an event headlined by the Finals, where either Hiromu Takahashi would 3-peat as champion or El Desperado would vault right back into a shot at reclaiming the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship.

Today’s event was held at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo and can be watched on demand on New Japan World in Japanese and English.

The announced paid attendance was 3520. Depending on layout and capacity limits, that represents 35-45% max capacity for the venue (varies from 8500-11000 for wrestling).

There were several last-second card changes because Juice Robinson was a late removal. Acute appendicitis.

Match 1: Tomoaki Honma beat Ryohei Oiwa. This was to have been Honma vs. Robinson as match 3.

Match 2: Alex Zayne, Ace Austin, Wheeler Yuta & El Lindaman beat Clark Connors, Titan, Yoh & Robbie Eagles. Zayne pinned Connors after Cinnamon Twist.

Match 3: Francesco Akira & TJP beat Master Wato & Ryusuke Taguchi. TJP beat Taguchi with Pinoy Stretch.

Match 4: Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Zack Sabre Jr. beat Sho & EVIL. Sabre beat Sho with an armbar.

Match 5: El Phantasmo, Chase Owens & Bad Luck Fale beat Aaron Henare, Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb. Phantasmo pinned Henare after CR 2. After the match, Austin joined Bullet Club, an angle likely to carry over into Impact Wrestling.

A message for the absent Robinson was delivered…SEE YOU NEXT TIME! SANADA is back! He will attempt to regain the IWGP US Heavyweight Championship when he returns on 6/12. He was forced to vacate the title due to injury (fractured orbital bone suffered during a New Japan Cup match against Will Ospreay).

Match 6: BUSHI, Tetsuya Naito & Shingo Takagi beat DOUKI, TAKA Michinoku & Taichi. Takagi beat TAKA with a ground cobra twist.

Jay White appeared next with a surprise…FANG REVIVES AGAIN! KENTA is back! He has been out since January due to injuries suffered in a No DQ IWGP US Heavyweight Championship match against Hiroshi Tanahashi at Tokyo Dome.

Match 7: Jado, Tama Tonga, Toru Yano & Kazuchika Okada beat Gedo, Taiji Ishimori, Doc Gallows & Jay White. Tonga pinned Gedo after Gun Stun.

Special guest Tatsumi Fujinami is introduced as a witness for the final match. (For those unaware, Fujinami is finally retiring after a 50 year career with his final match set for 12/1. It will be a torch-passing of sorts because his final opponent is Hiroshi Tanahashi)

Main Event: Best Of The Super Junior Finals: Hiromu Takahashi beat El Desperado to win the tournament. It’s the 3rd straight BOSJ title for Takahashi and 4th overall. It also earns him a shot at Ishimori for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship, we don’t know when yet.

The next event is DOMINION, the annual June Osaka blowout event, on 6/12 at Osaka-jo Hall in Osaka. Live streaming on New Japan World will begin on 6/12 at 1 AM ET/6/11 at 10 PM PT.

DDT/Tokyo Joshi Pro News 5/29/22

A bit of DDT & Tokyo Joshi Pro news from overnight:
International Princess Champion Maki Itoh successfully defended the title against former WWE star Mia Yim this weekend at an independent event in Portland, OR. V3 for Itoh. Next up: “The Unbreakable” Rio, which has been added to 6/4 at Entetsu Hall in Shizuoka. Unfortunately there is no live broadcast on WRESTLE UNIVERSE so we’ll likely have to wait at least 3 days to see it. Itoh & Yuka Sakazaki are on their way back to Japan for this event but Miyu Yamashita is not. Apparently she is staying overseas a little longer and will miss 6/4. She should be back for CyberFight Festival.
Also, the first names for Summer Sun Festical ’22 on 7/9 have been announced: Yuki Arai, Juria Nagano and Mei Suruga, who apparently will appear as herself and not as May Saint-Michel, her usual persona in TJPW alongside Saki Akai when she appears as Saki-sama.

On the DDT side, Chris Brookes missed this weekend’s events and is now out a couple more weeks as he has been diagnosed with a sprained right ankle. He plans to be back for CyberFight Festival. Also, Gota Ihashi is now off Wednesday’s Korakuen Hall event. Enteritis.

Finally, the Japanese branch of the NIVEA skin care company will be a sponsor of CyberFIght Festival ’22, and all fans attending the event in person will receive a free product sample upon entering the venue. This came about after a NIVEA representative saw social media posts by Saki Akai about her pre-match skin care routing, which led to an offer to provide products to Akai. CyberFight management and NIVEA held discussions which led to this and possibly more. This comes admist news that Akai has just released her own own men’s skin care product called Riviera Perfect All-in-One Gel in Japan. Pre-orders just began shipping in Japan. It appears to be available only in Japan. Saki has started a Shopify page for the product, which also links to her official Instagram page. A roughly 2-month supply is available for 5500 yen in Japan and for now will only be sold via Saki’s Shopify product page. There are no plans to sell it at DDT events or DDT’s online store.

Pro Wrestling NOAH 5/30/22 Results

Pro Wrestling NOAH ran a NOAH SANCTUARY event today, the latest in their occasional series of fan-centered events, which served as both build towards CyberFIght Festival ’22 with DDT participation and also as a farewell-for-now for Junta Miyawaki, who is heading off on an overseas training excursion.

Today’s event was held at Club Citta Kawasaki aka Noah Special Arena in Kawasaki, Japan and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

The announced paid attendance was 162, which was a legit advance sellout.

Match 1: Yoshiki Inamura vs. Kazusada Higuchi (DDT) went to a 15 minute time limit draw.

Match 2: YO-HEY & Extreme Tiger beat Haoh & Alejandro. YO-HEY pinned Haoh with YO-ROLL.

Match 3: Michael Elgin & Masa Kitamiya beat Simon Gotch & Kinya Okada. Elgin pinned Okada after Elgin Bomb.

Match 4: Junta Miyawaki Send-Off Match-Kaito Kiyomiya beat Junya Miyawaki.

Match 5: Daisuke Sasaki, MJ Pawl & KANON (DDT) beat Kenoh, Hajime Ohara & Hi69. Sasaki beat Hi69 with a Mystica crossface.

Main Event: Satoshi Kojima (New Japan), Mohammed Yone & Atsushi Kotoge beat Go Shiozaki, Shuhei Taniguchi & Daisuke Harada. Kojims pinned Taniguchi after a Western Lariat. This was to have been Kojima, Naomichi Marufuji & Kotoge vs. Shiozaki, Taniguchi & Harada but Marufuji was removed a couple days ago due to knee pain. Yone was the replacement.

The next event is the SUNNY VOYAGE 2022 Tour opener Sunday at Aore Nagaoka in Niigata. There is no live broadcast scheduled but it will be on demand at a later date. There are no live broadcasts scheduled again until after CyberFight Festical ’22 (there are 2 Korakuen Hall events next week on Tuesday & Wednesday but both are ABEMA-only live streams, the next live broadcast excluding CyberFight Festival will not be until 6/22).

NOAH News: Late 5/30 Card Change

Pro Wrestling NOAH has announced a late change to tomorrow’s (5/30) NOAH SANCTUARY event-Naomichi Marufuji is now off the event. Knee pain. He was to have teamed with Satoshi Kojima & Atsushi Kotoge to face Daisuke Harada, Shuhei Taniguchi & Go Shiozaki. Mohammed Yone is the replacement.
It’s not known if Marufuji will miss any further time, this does not appear to be new injuries. After this event the promotion is off until Sunday, when they have a quick stretch of 3 events in 4 days before taking a nearly 2-week break with only CyberFight Festival ’22 in the middle.
