DDT Pro Wrestling 9/29/24 LIVE Results (Updated)

DDT runs their monthly signature Tokyo event today, and it’s another huge one today because it features the return of Kaisei Takechi. “The Rampage”, a member of a popular sports athlete/entertainment group in Japan (legit sports entertainment!), he made his pro wrestling debut in DDT in February which garnered almost unprecedented mainstream attention for the promotion and brought in many new (younger female) fans, quickly selling out Korakuen Hall to watch the popular Takechi compete. He’s gonna do it again today, teaming again with The37Kamiina in the main event. Before that, there’s a unique DDT Extreme Championship match as it will be defended in a tag team match so Shunma Katsumata can lose the title without being beaten and Akito can win it under similar circumstances. There’s also a potential hoss fight for the DDT Universal Championship as Yuki Iino defends against Yukio Naya. And the always-subject-to-change plans include a DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Championship match where you never know what will happen with the true 24/7 title of pro wrestling.

Today’s event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese. It will also be streamed live for free on ABEMA in Japan. The event is a legit advance sellout. Riki Matsui, a member of dance/music group BALLISTIK BOYZ, will be a special guest on commentary for the second time, the first being when Takechi debuted here in February. This is being billed as a 3 hour special event, and is starting earlier than usual for a Korakuen Sunday morning event, so that’s what to plan on time-wise.
There is also a PPV available for pre-order on WRESTLE UNIVERSE which is a support package for Takechi. It can be purchased for 3500 Japanese yen (around $25 US) and will feature a special movie, a digitally signed smartphone wallpaper and a chance to win a signed photo. The PPV is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday at 4 AM PT/7 AM ET and can be watched until 10/21 at 10 PM PT/1 AM ET. It can be purchased until 10/14. (The first one they did is available on another streaming service but requires a paid membership, which costs about $8/month US and is available worldwide).

Today’s lineup:
Shinya Aoki & HARASHIMA vs. Jun Akiyama & Keigo Nakamura
Tetsuya Endo, Takao Soma & Yuya Koroku vs. Toru Owashi, Kazuki Hirata & Yuki Ishida
Daisuke Sasaki, MJ Paul & KANON vs. Antonio Honda, To-y & Illusion
DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion Danshoku Dieno vs. Makoto Oishi for the title (tentative due to the nature of the title)
DDT Extreme Champion Shunma Katsumata & Kazuma Sumi vs. Akito & Yuni in a Florescent Lighttube IPPON Death match for the title. One lighttube is placed in the ring, whoever breaks it by taking a shot from it loses. If either Katsumata or Sumi wins, Katsumata retains the title. If either Akito or Yuni wins, Akito wins the title
DDT Universal Champion Yuki Iino vs. Yukio Naya for the title
Kaisei Takechi, Yuki Ueno & MAO vs. Chris Brookes, Takeshi Masada & Masa Takanashi

Updates below will begin at 7 PM PT/10 PM ET. The live stream is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM PT/9:30 PM ET and go to the venue 5-10 minutes before start time.

6:30 PM PT UPDATE: The live streaming has begun. We should go to the venue in 15-20 minutes.

6:54 PM PT UPDATE: Live updates begin now.

We are LIVE from Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Your hosts are Haruo Murata, Kagehiro Osano & Riki Matsui.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. It’s a legit advance sellout so the final number will depend on the setup, not quite the full capacity for New Japan & All-Japan due to the commentary setup here so it should be around 1300, maybe higher. (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 1650. I think that’s overinflated because of the smaller Korakuen setup DDT uses because of where commentary and the timekeeper/announcer are positioned on the north side of the venue)

The matches should begin in 10-15 minutes.

The matches begin at 7:11 PM PT/10:11 PM ET. New footage for the opening video.

Match 1: Shinya Aoki & HARASHIMA vs. Jun Akiyama & Keigo Nakamura. 30 minute time limit
Result: Shinya Aoki & HARASHIMA beat Jun Akiyama & Keigo Nakamura. HARASHIMA pinned Nakamura after Blue Sword. Afterwards, HARASHIMA with microphone. KO-D Openweight Championship challenge issued. Aoki’s voice sounded really bad like it’s almost gone when responding. Accepted and made official by GM Imabayashi. Sounds like it will be at the next Korakuen event, which will be on 10/20.

Your new host is Satoshi Dairaku.

Match 2: Tetsuya Endo, Takao Soma & Yuya Koroku vs. Toru Owashi, Kazuki Hirata & Yuki Ishida. 30 minute time limit
Result: Tetsuya Endo, Takao Soma & Yuya Koroku beat Toru Owashi, Kazuki Hirata & Yuki Ishida. Soma pinned Hirata with a rollup. As a result, Soma wins Hirata’s “Money In The Bank” title shot. And he grabbed it & bolted like it meant something.

GM Imabayashi with the opening announcements and upcoming event/match announcements. It’s now official-Aoki-HARASHIMA on 10/20.

Match 3: Daisuke Sasaki, MJ Paul & KANON vs. Antonio Honda, To-y & Illusion. 30 minute time limit
Result: Daisuke Sasaki, MJ Paul & KANON beat Antonio Honda, To-y & Illusion. KANON pinned Illusion after Sleepy Hollow.

Your host is Haruo Murata once again.

Match 4: DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion Danshoku Dieno vs. Makoto Oishi for the title. 30 minute time limit
Result: Makoto Oishi beat DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion Danshoku Dieno to win the title. Oishi becomes the 1674th Champion. Classic “Only In DDT” comedy match including a hilarious Goldberg-style entrance with the music for Referee Matsui and Dieno’s real-life dog. Which led to…
Danshoku Dieno beat DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion Makoto Oishi to win the title. Dieno becomes the 1675th Champion. Won it back immediately.

Yuki Ishida & Yuya Koroku do a comedy demo of the rules for the next match.

Match 5: DDT Extreme Champion Shunma Katsumata & Kazuma Sumi vs. Akito & Yuni in a Florescent Lighttube IPPON Death match for the title. One lighttube is placed in the ring, whoever breaks it by taking a shot from it loses. If either Katsumata or Sumi wins, Katsumata retains the title. If either Akito or Yuni wins, Akito wins the title. 1 Hour time limit
Result: Akito & Yuni beat DDT Extreme Champion Shunma Katsumata & Kazuma Sumi when Yuni caused Katsumata to break the lighttube. As a result, Akito wins the title. Akito becomes the 60th DDT Extreme Champion. Next up: Akito asked for Dieno, who came out with his dog. Although I heard the one thing during Akito’s comments I thought we’d never hear again…the deplorable Pheromones. Seems like Akito might want Danshoku “Dandy” Dieno. Regardless, GM Imabayashi makes it official for 10/20.

Quick break for ring cleaning.

Match 6: DDT Universal Champion Yuki Iino vs. Yukio Naya for the title. 1 Hour time limit
Result: DDT Universal Champion Yuki Iino beat Yukio Naya to retain the title. V1 for Iino. Afterwards, To-y with microphone. For I believe the 4th time he tried to cash in his “Money In The Bank” title shot and once again Iino speared it out of him. Iino told GM Imabayashi to make the match and it was. For 10/12 at Acros Fukuoka.

Main Event: Kaisei Takechi, Yuki Ueno & MAO vs. Chris Brookes, Takeshi Masada & Masa Takanashi. 30 minute time limit
Result: Kaisei Takechi, Yuki Ueno & MAO beat Chris Brookes, Takeshi Masada & Masa Takanashi. Ueno pinned Masada after WR. Of course the atmosphere was absolutely electric, with the many female fans in the crowd reacting loudly to Takechi’s every action. Almost sounded like a US wrestling crowd. Different music for Ueno too than what we’re used to hearing. Afterwards, Ueno briefly put Takechi over then handed over the microphone to let the star attraction address the fans. I think now we have to wait and see when we’ll get the answer to the obvious question…third match sometime in the future? But Takechi was interrupted by Oishi, who along with Dieno will face MAO & Shunma Katsumata Thursday in his last DDT match before retiring for the KO-D Tag Team Championship. Takechi then got to finish his comments and thank the crowd for coming to end the show. With Oishi crowding in for the photo ops.

The next event is Thursday at Shinjuku Face with 2 title matches, including Makoto Oishi’s final DDT match which is a KO-D Tag Team Championship match. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin at 3 AM PT/6 AM ET.

UPDATE: Said third Kaisei Takechi match will happen. Thursday. Post-event urgent addition. Will be Takechi & Oishi vs. Akito & Hirata. That means 2 matches for Oishi that day.

DDT News: Weekend Event-And Potential Wedding-Postponed

In what could be very disappointing news for a potential newlywed couple, DDT has announced this Saturday’s event in Gifu, which was to feature an actual wedding if a couple applied and paid the 100,000 yen fee (around $650 US), along with a second scheduled event in Gifu, has been POSTPONED. Weather concerns-the forecast calls for the potential of a hurricane (Japan calls them typhoons) and the decision was made out of concerns for safety. No new date announced yet and refunds will be given for tickets purchased. If there is no wedding, it will be a regular event instead.
